Stillman: You've been lucky a long time, Spencer.
Lilly: Eighteen years without an arrest.
Spencer: It's not luck that's kept me out of trouble. I'm out of the game.
Lilly: Just like any other working man: fake social, half a dozen aliases...
Stillman: Which name's real?
-
Lilly: Nice trick with the decoy.
Spencer: If I knew they'd send me a cop that looks like you, I wouldn't have bothered.
-
Det. Miller: So, how do we find a guy who changes his name more often than his underwear?
-
(Scotty storms into A.D.A. Thomas' office.)
Scotty: You turned me in to IA, didn't you?
Alexandra: Your charm never ceases to amaze.
Scotty: Not even denying it. Unbelievable!
Alexandra: I got asked a question, answered honestly. Try it sometime.
Scotty: Where I came from, we got an issue with someone, we tell him.
Alexandra: Where I come from, we don't tolerate screw-ups!
Scotty: What's your problem?
Alexandra: I could ask you the same thing!
Scotty: You're pissed I never made a move.
Alexandra: Come on, Scotty! Figured you were smarter than that.
Scotty: Ahh, yeah, you got me all figured out, eh?
Alexandra: You're nothing if not predictable.
(Suddenly Scotty pushes over a chair.)
Scotty: See that coming?
Alexandra: Go ahead! Destroy everything! It's what you are good at!
Scotty: (coming closer)You've got no idea what I'm capable of.
Alexandra: Is that right?
(They start kissing passionately.)
-
Lilly: It's tough, losing someone close. I'm certain wherever she is... she's glad you came.
Spencer: Don't be too sure.
Lilly: When my husband... Sometimes I feel responsible, you know?
Spencer: You like older men, detective? 'Cause your husband died in 1942.
(Lilly glances the headstone in front of which she's standing. It says, "Richard Edwards, 1877–1942".)
-
Det. Miller: (planning a stakeout) So we plant an obit. "Margot Chambers, blah blah blah, being buried at Oakland Cemetery." Stake it out.
Det. Jeffries: No, not me. Got court.
Det. Vera: When?
Det. Jeffries: Whenever the stakeout is.
-
Lt. Stillman: They let you cross the street in daylight?
A.D.A. Alexandra Thomas: Prepping testimony. Some of these medical types need cuddling.
Scotty: And they sent you? That's funny.
A.D.A. Thomas: And with that ringing endorsement...
Scotty: Don't be so sensitive.
A.D.A. Thomas: (dumbfounded) I should go. (to Lilly) Glad to see you back on the job.
Lilly: Thanks.
A.D.A. Thomas: Lieutenant, detective...
(Scotty doesn't ever look at her as she leaves.)
Lt. Stillman: (whistles) And I thought the cold war was over.
Scotty: What are you talking about?
Lilly: Only thing you didn't do was pull her pigtails.
-
John Stillman: Woman was no transient.
Scotty Valens: That means someone out there should be missing her.
Lilly Rush: That, or they're glad she's finally dead.
