Truck Sugar died on November 13, 2000.
In the closing sequence when Stillman is in the bar and looking at Coop's photo, next to it is a photo of Joe Washington, the cop killed in episode 1-5: The Runner.
Nitpick: The gun used in the murder was a sawed-off shotgun, probably a Browning, and probably with an 18" barrel. This weapon was a police and military issue only as were the bullets. Why would the murderer use a weapon and ammunition issued to police or military use only when the owner would be much easier to track?
Goof: Jimmy says to Coop that his wife is taking the kids to see Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. However, the movie opened in the U.S. in December 1968. By then, Sean Cooper was already dead.
Sean Cooper died in September 1968.
When Coop's case boxes are filed away, there are four of them instead of the usual one. On the shelf above are case boxes for victims named Dennis White, Steven Carter, Alan White, and Pat Olson.
Highlight for a spoiler:
Det. Vera gets his own apartment and moves out of the motel room he's been staying at since his divorce.
Martha Puck died in April 1989.
Highlight for a spoiler:
At the end of the episode, rather than filing the case's file box as "closed," the team disposes of the box altogether, as the victim was found alive, in one of only three such episodes (the other two being "The Road" and "Ghost of My Child").
Highlight below for a spoiler:
The adult Melanie went by the name Jennifer Robinson.
Melanie Campbell went missing on October 23, 1975.
Nitpick: The "key party" featured in this episode is a bit anachronistic for the late 70's disco period that was depicted. Key parties were popular in the late 60's and early 70's as many of the sixties "free love" generation actually settled down into real jobs and suburban family life as was depicted in Ang Lee's 1997 movie The Ice Storm. It certainly was not a "new" fad brought back from California as one of the characters suggests in this episode.
Libby Bradley was killed on February 26, 1979.
Nitpick: On February 26, 1979, there really was a total solar eclipse – the last total solar eclipse of the 20th century that was visible in the continental U.S. However, a total eclipse was only visible in some of the northwestern states (Washington, Idaho, Montana and North Dakota), not in the Philadelphia area. Other parts of the country had only a partial eclipse.
John Hawkins was murdered on August 29, 1958.
We find out that Will Jeffries was a DJ in college who played country music.
The Harrises' home phone number, 215-555-0196, is only a digit off from Lilly's cell phone number, 215-555-0198, as revealed in the episode 1-9: Sherry, Darlin'.
Goof: During the scene in which Lilly visits Ray in the hospital, the brace on his wrist keeps switching hands.
Steve and Lisa Harris were murdered in November 2003. Since it was established in the episode that it was a Tuesday, their date of death is either 4th, 11th, 18th, or 25th of November, 2003.
Goof: When Miller and Jeffries are questioning Greg, they refer to the Harrises as Hardings. Harding was the family's last name during early versions of the script, but it was changed to the version that aired – except in this scene.
