  • In this episode we get to learn about several of the main characters. We also learn how well this series was made, from the writing and acting, to the directing and final edit.

I find it amazing how well, for a TV show, this series was written/filmed/edited. I remember loving it as a kid, and I find it incredible how well it not only stands up to the test of time, but how entertaining it is from an adult's perspective. As a comparison, I also loved "Rat Patrol" as a kid, but now I find it poorly written/produced, and not very entertaining as an adult.

This episode [the re-edited pilot] does a very good job of introducing the main characters to their audience. You come away with a pretty good feeling about what each guy is all about. The weaving of stock WWII footage with the TV show is great, and the special effects on the beach are movie quality [for the time it was made].

As always we get a little lesson in life from the Sarge.

In this episode it's the interaction between Saunders and Braddock. The Sarge teaches Braddock about hoarding goodies from home, and how it may come back to haunt you someday. It may seem trivial on the surface, but in context, it is a very important lesson.
