This is, for the most part, a Lieutenant Hanley episode, as Saunders spends most of it sleeping through a bombing raid.
Meanwhile, Hanley is trapped under a beam in a bombed out church, just inches away from a live bomb that didn't explode [in the afore mentioned air raid].
The better part of the first fifteen minutes are spent showing us how well Hanley handles himself with women, and introducing us to the guest star [who just happens to be the girls old boy friend, as well as a battle worn British Bomb Disposal Officer].
I really like the way that this episode was written. The interaction between Hanley, and the shell shocked bomb specialist, is very well thought out.
We go from one man who despises Americans, [because of their big shot attitudes], and another who just wants a good meal [and a girl to share it with], to a couple of allied warriors in a very bad situation, that truely need each other to survive.
Not many action shows today would take the time, between shoot'um up scenes, to create such a well thought out character study like this.
It's too bad that the entertainment industry buys into the "Dumbing of America" theory, or we'd still have great shows like this on TV.
