  • The Amazing Johnathan puts on an 'amazing' show that rivals any other Comedy Central Presents...

The first time I heard of The Amazing Johnathan was this episode of Comedy Central Presents. He blends sleight-of-hand and illusion with his great sense of humor. In certain ways he actually shows how his tricks are performed to gain a comedic edge with his show. This particular show is a bit short, but it certainly got me very interested in his act. I have yet to see a live performance, but he performs regularly in Las Vegas.

I have seen longer versions of his act and some of his original illusions are truly astounding; especially his knife-through-the-arm trick. Unfortunately it is not shown in this episode. However, this show was absolutely hilarious and he has a great way of communicating with the audience and making sure they are following his act. While some of the tricks he executes are quite juvenile, it only makes his show better and all the more funny.

He includes other people in his show (Psychic Tanya) and people from the audience (maybe friends?) and uses a lot of sight gags (wouldn't be as funny on CD). He has been hailed as "The Freddy Krueger of Comedy" and was "Comic Magician of the Year" twice in the World Magic Awards, and named as "Comedian of the Year" in Las Vegas, 2002.

He is definitely an act not to be missed.
