Jeff Garlin acts as Roastmaster to the first Roast not associated with the New York Friar's Club.

Comedy Central stood up and said "No thank you New York Friar's Club!" then they went off on their own and designed the Comedy Central Presents: Roast of...Denis Leary. Which has nothing to do with the Friar's Club at all. The idea that the two formats mirror each other is a complete fabrication from naysayers who are just jealous that Comedy Central made such an awesome original project.
Of course I kid. The Roasts presented by comedy central are the "made for TV continuation of what comedy central produced from 1998 to 2002. Back then it was the NY Friar's who roasted and the comedy and the language was so raw. Now that comedy central has more input the joke are still funny but the language has been cleaned up to get past most censors.
The first roast of Denis Leary is one of the reasons that comedy central has continued to make these yearly gigs.moreless
