  • Best episode of the series

One would think that because this show was quickly cancelled it was a total loss and it was a very dull show. However, this episode makes us doubt about it, and makes us think that sometimes networks are just way too hard with some shows just because some people complain about the ratings, or about that they did not like one episode. So, I think that overall a good explanation of why a show fails will be good from them, but the truth is that they don’t have any good excuses except from “not the great success we were searching for, not good ratings”, lame excuse. Don’t really understand.

So, we have “The Apartment Episode” which is overall, the best episode of the entire thirteen episode series. Really good episode, that consists in a lot of things. For starters, the way in which (sorry I don’t really know names) the big strong guy has a tattoo that apparently means “strong dude or something alike” but according to some Chinese it means “chicken” or something alike. The beginning was something funny that I really think is worth of mentioning. Now onto the main plot of the episode, the woman realizes that she is never allow into the apartment, and the man does not want to let her in because he keeps everything that he has (receipts, checks, even trash), so she decides to break in to see it all by herself. Good idea, except that she accidentally puts everything in a mess and throws every paper and every thing that was being kept to the floor. The funniest part of the episode is when they are trying to do it and he turns off the light so that she does not notice it, but there is so much mess that he kicks her out. Also, when he finally decides to invite her, she discovers that he apparently clean up everything, and that makes her angry because that is not really himself. At the end, it is reveal that he did not throw anything away, but instead he just put in the closet. Overall, the best episode of the series and the funniest too.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (1)

    • Various New York City street scenes are shown during each episode, and some must be some fairly old file footage. In this episode you see an NYPD Patrol Car drive by that is painted mostly blue with white stripes. The last time NYPD cars were painted that color was in 1996. In 1997 they were changed to mainly white with blue stripes and the last of the 'blues' were off the road by 1999 or 2000 the latest. • QUOTES (5)

    • Marni: Everyone's got clowns in their closet, Nate. I've shown you all of mine.
Nate: Wait, there was only one clown, right?
Marni: It's a figure of speech.
      Nate: No it isn't!
Marni: Look Nate, if you have baggage, I want to know about it.
Nate: If!?! Have you met me!?!

    • Marni: Halfsies on the orange juice means half, Clown. Half! You're not dying of scurvy!

    • Bowie: Nathan, you got to have a place you can take a woman back to. Me, I make my place like a bed and breakfast. I got slippers, nice soft bathrobes, croissants in a basket. Sends ladies the message: "Thank you for staying, and next time, bring a friend!"

    • Chinese Food Delivery Man: (looking at Bowie's Chinese character tattoo) Where did you get that tattoo?
Bowie: New Orleans. It means fiery strength.
Chinese Food Delivery Man: (laughs) I don't think so.
Bowie: Then what does it mean?
Chinese Food Delivery Man: I can't really translate it. The closest I can come to it is "Lil' Bitch".

    • Nate: (on the phone) Hey, so what are you doing right now?
Marnie: (playfully) Right now... well... I'm in my PJs... rubbing lotion... on my feet because I have callouses.
      Nate: Yeah, nice!

  • NOTES (2)

    • Originally there was a scene where Marni, naked under the trench coat, tells an older woman on the subway that she's not wearing anything under the coat. The woman then tells Marni that she's not really a woman. This scene was used in early promos for the show but ended up getting cut out.

    • Marni's cellular ringtone is "Mahna Mahna," the famous Muppet song that she attempted to stage as a duet during one of the ill-fated dates shown in the pilot episode.

    • Marni: I'm pretty sure 500.4 is botany.

Botany was 581 until 1996 when it was moved to 580. 500.4 has never been used for any subject.
