I bet a big reason had to do with being paired with that awful "Whitney" show. They are two very different shows - one being funny (Community) and one is completely not funny (Whitney and I say that because I did watch both shows last season). October 19 was a very late date to start a new season to begin with. I see "Grimm" is in the time slot now & they probably felt better about that show.
