Show Summary

The Savages are not your typical average wholesome family. When you just have a father whose motto is "Anything Goes" and five immature children in one house with just themselves everyday, the odds of them being a normal bunch are one in a million. Complete Savages shows just what happens when you have a household full of average men and no women around to tell them how they should act.

The Father

Nick Savage (Keith Carradine) is a single father raising his five sons who do nothing but mayhem and stress into his life. He does his best to teach the boys the value of life and how to take responsibility for their own lives. However, no matter how much he teaches them, this firefighter almost always ends up putting out the fire in his own home.

The Boys

Sam Savage (Andrew Eiden) is the "good one" of the boys. He does well in school; he does not get into any "real" trouble and always takes responsibility for himself. Although these are admirable qualities, they often get him tease and mocked at by his brothers.

Jack Savage (Shaun Sipos) is the melodious, laid-back one. While oozing with personality and charm, he is rocking out with his guitar. He enjoys being the leader and making sure is hair is straight.

Chris Savage (Erik Von Detten) is the sports jock of the family. He loves to play football and personally believes he is not qualified to know anything else. Even though most of the time his personality proves to be of a mentally challenged kid, he does what he can to stay on his toes.

Kyle Savage (Evan Ellingson) is an energetic 14-year old. Whilst having a problem controlling his anger, he is usually doing unhealthy mischievous experiments with his younger brother, T.J.

Lastly we have T.J. Savage (Jason Dolley) who is the youngest. Although he doesn't look like he is capable to, he does his share of chaos, especially with Kyle. Even though he is young and has a lot to experience, his brothers look at him as one of their own.

Other Family Members

Other members of the family include Jimmy Savage (Vincent Ventresca), Nick's brother/the boys' uncle; and the Savage dog. Jimmy is usually around to give advice to Nick when he needs it but is not to stingy when it comes to sharing about is own problems of the past, present and future. As for the family dog (whose name is unknown as of now), this hysterical animal acts as if it was a human savage. It participates in arguments, helps cause disruption, and is not afraid to ask for food when he wants it.

Even though the father is not perfect, the show basically revolves around the boys and the kind of mischievous behavior average teens could get into. From posing as firefighters, to battling with their next door neighbors (and with each other), these five boys definitely put the SAVAGES in Complete Savages.

Emmy-winners Julie Thacker-Scully and Mike Scully are the creators/executive producers of the show. Bruce Davey is one of the executive producers and Academy Award-winning Mel Gibson works as a director, producer and executive producer.

Broadcast History on ABC September 2004-June 2005: Fridays at 8:30 p.m./7:30 p.m. c (Simulcast in HDTV)moreless

This was a great comedy. I never got the chance to see every episode when it first aired, but I think I was able to see at least half the series.

I was surprised to see that Erik von Detten was in it at the time, as I thought he was still a main part of the Dinotopia cast. I was a fan of Dinotopia at the time (I would actually watch anything with dinosaurs in it though). I found out later that Dinotopia had actually been cancelled.

As for this show, it revolved around a family named the Savages, hence the series name. The family consisted of 5 brothers and a single father. The father had divorced the boy's mother as she was actually crazy. I think he mentioned that she had tried to put shredded glass in his meatloaf or something? The boys all have different personalities - for example Sam (Andrew Eiden) is the sensitive guy, Chris (Erik von Detten) is the dumb athletic jock etc. The boys always manage to get into trouble but also usually always band together when things get too far out of hand (which they usually do). In some ways I found this to be a little like 'Malcolm In The Middle' (also about a family of brothers who get into or create trouble). I guess that is one of the reasons why I enjoyed it.

I don't understand why this show was canned though, it was much better than some of the other stuff that passes as comedy. I could have been a fan of this show.moreless
    • Complete Savages is based around five different teenage boys, who live with their widowed father. It shows their lives and the mayhem they cause. Very funny.

Complete Savages must be one of the funniest programmes on Nickelodeon. It's based on five teenage boys and their widowed father, who tries to keep them out of trouble. The mayhem they cause is hilarious and will definetley make you laugh. Each of the boys are different and it shows their individual problems, which bring the show up more on the funny scale. Unlike most of the shows on children's channels it uses the words such as a** and cr*p. Due to this, I'd say it's suitable for teenagers and if adults have nothing better to do, they should watch it also. Jack, the one that is a bit of a lady's man, cheats on girls and two times them and turns into into a comical thing, which gives the viewer the impression that it's cool to cheat on girls. That is really my own downfall on the show, but I'm not really bothered about that kind of thing, but I know most women/girls will be.moreless

    • This is the funniest show I've ever seen.

Complete Savages, seems to break all the boundaries of modern T.V and deliver an incredible amount of comedy into a half-hour block, because, personally I'm tired of all the shows that always have the women, pointing out how stupid every man is, but this show allows some of the children to be total fools, such as T.J and Kyle trying to get on the Stupid Idiots web site, and become famous, but it also shows Sam, trying to be a kind, and intelligent person, which is difficult for someone in his family, but the show also brings in Angela, Sam's Girlfriend, and with her they show how Condescending people can be sometimes, with Sam's struggle to stay ahead and prove himself.moreless
    • Whenever Chris Savage wants to torment one of his little brothers, he puts his arm up, and puts them in a headlock (aka. "The Pitt") and they can see if his deotorant is really working. The savages show the epitome of manhood!moreless

This show NEEDS to come back. It was great! I'm a huge fan of Erik Von Detten, and the "Pitt"/headlock thing is hilarious, believe me, I know how that feels. I don't know what ABC was thinking when the cancelled this great show. It had the potential to be one of the greatest teen sitcoms of it's time. I wish that television networks would think more carefully before they cancel shows all willie-nillie. There seems to be no sitcoms that teenage boys can relate too, this was the only one. Do you hear me ABC?! You made a huge mistake. Bring it back!moreless
