The title for this episode refers to the nickname Conan earned ("Amra", meaning "The Lion") whilst he sailed with Belit and her Black Pirates in the early "Conan the Barbarian" stories.

The name of Skulkar's human form -Sakumbe- is the name of an old adventuring companion of Conan's from the short stories. Sakumbe makes only one appearance and does so as a bit-part character; the placid and stunningly obese king of a kingdom of black-skinned people.

When Conan declares the he "has faced the illusions of the Kari Dragon himself", he is referring to the events of the episode Shadow Walkers.

When the young count bows before Conan, he says that "It is local tradition to bow before the king". When Conan laughs and declares that it's not him, the boy mutters "Not yet..." This is another foreshadowing of Conan eventually becoming a king.

Skullker's resting place is depicted as a more traditional sarcophagus in this episode, and in later episodes becomes a stone sepulchral.
Skullker's voice in this episode is an echoing, demonic tone, rather than the hollow moaning it will be throughout the rest of the season.
