Conic Sections is a series of educational films that originally aired in 1990 on TVO, a government television station in Canada that broadcasts educational programming. This series consists of six episodes including "Slicing the Cone," "Circles," "The Ellipse," "The Parabola," "The Hyperbola" and "Conic Reflections." Each episode is 30 minutes in length and is primarily for use in classrooms for high school students. The episodes combine a storyline with live actors and animated sequences to provide a lesson on conic sections. The first episode begins when two space travelers named Charlie and Ed crash on an island. They soon discover they are in ancient Greece and must learn about conic sections in order to repair their ship. The animated sequences demonstrate the way to draw conics on paper with a pencil, tacks and string. The director for the series is David Chamberlain and the narrator is Corky Rawson. The writers are John Amadio and Susan Perry.
