Consumer Squad

Show Summary

Consumer Squad is a consumer advocate TV series from the American Public Broadcasting System that focuses on consumer rights. In each episode, the squad has a consumer dilemma to resolve and must find the best solution. The season opens with consumer redress, when squad member Paul Landers files a claim in Small Claims Court to seek a refund after his new record player breaks three times while under warranty. In another episode, a local business claims that the consumer squad is an anti-business agency. After hearing this, squad members Fred Allen and Dean Heinz show viewers how some businesses use conservative marketing techniques to gain a competitive advantage. Other topics that the advocates take on include comparison strategies, reducing energy bills, money management and consumer rights when making a purchase. The season ends with squad leader Melissa Barns showing Ron Decker from a local rock band how to stop borrowing money, make a budget and open a money-market account.
