But when she discovers that Liber8 are devising a plan to take them back to 2077, she must escape capture and ally herself with her sworn enemies, if she has any hope of ever getting back home.

Inspector Kiera Cameron finds herself in the year 2012 after a group of terrorists attempt to escape execution by travelling back in time. Keira must now stop the terrorists' reign of violence, and find a way back to her family, in 2077. Adopting a new identity, Keira joins the VPD and befriends 17 year old Alec Sadler, who will one day come to create the technology her world is built on.

Carlos investigates the murder of a woman he slept with. Carlos doesn't tell anyone about the murder. Martin is running for election as the head of the local dock workers union. Alec tries to fix Kiera's suit and gets a lead on the killer. She also finds that the piece of the time travel device is missing and knows Kellogg has to be the one who took it.

But they are still at risk of failing through the possibility that they may cease to exist if their ancestors are murdered. A series of mysterious murders in which victims have been drained of endocrine fluid lead Keira and Carlos back to Liber8, as they attempt to save their leader, Travis. Meanwhile, Liber8 member Kellog delivers Keira a gift in an attempt to make truce, a gift that puts hers and Carlo's lives in danger, and could result in Kellog's expulsion from the terrorists' group.
