  • At a standstill

The show seems to be at a standstill, with the storyline not really moving forward. This episide had nothing new to offer, I hope it improves before the end of the series.
  • Still interesting, but not really grabbing me any more

I must say that I'm puzzled by the glowing reviews others have given of the last few episodes. For me, I've become increasingly disappointed with each episode.

This last one left me feeling very flat. As I said in my comments on Ep.10, I find it hard to sympathize with Keira now, and am feeling less emotionally involved with each episode.

    I really loved the first series - a watched in one sitting and couldn't tear myself away from it. Thinking back, the reasons I loved it so much were;

    1) It's science fiction ;^)

    2) Strong kick-ass female lead, but with a soft, more thoughtly side who wants to get back to her family

    3) Her inner conflict as she tried to reconcile her inner moral compass (and desire to get home) with the increasingly blurred lines between good and bad

    4) Interesting convoluted time travel plot with constant twists and turns revealed in each episode.

    5) Fast paced action sequences woven throughout the story line

    6) Neat special effects of future techology

    7) Flash-forwards to the future that shift your perspective of what's "really" happening.

Looking at this episode, most of these elements are missing or greatly diluted:

    1) Yes, it's still science fiction

    2) I guess Keira is still a strong character, but it's hard to even call her a lead character any more. The plot and story telling don't centre on her any more. She's just one of the ensemble, and some of the other characters are taking a more central role. And when was the last time she mentioned her family?

    3) Keira's inner conflict seems to have almost completely vanished. Carlos and Betty are the only characters who seem to be worried about the direction things are heading, and the other characters shut them down when they voice their concerns.

    4) There's still and interesting, convoluted time travel plot

    5) Not much in the of fast paced action, just a few scuffles

    6) There are hardly any neat special effects any more. In this episode all we get is the outline of where the van use to be in the car park.

    7) There was a flash forward in this episode, but it didn't really shift your perspective. It felt more like providing a tid-bit of info that may come into play in future episodes.

So this episode scores with "It's Science fiction" and "interesting convoluted time travel plot", but for me is lacking in the other areas, which I guess explains why I'm still feeling intellectually interested (and will stick it out to the end), but it's not really grabbing me like the first series did.

  • Clever!

This show is getting better and better as we continue to move through Season 2. This episode featured many interesting developments and evenst across multiple storylines.

Complete anarchy is ensuing in Vancouver, orchestrated by Julian, while the two factions of Liber8 could potentially reunite?

The Jim Martin guy is certainly playing a bigger role in events of ltae, and he made a blast by making a bold move in this episode which may have huge repercussions and ramifications.

I can't wait to see what leafds on next in this storyline. Everything is just so intense and there are so many fascinating developments! Can't wait for more! Looking forward to it!moreless
