Episode Summary

Courtesy Of The Red, White And Blue
In the spring and summer of 2002, country superstar Toby Keith was putting the finishing touches on an album. At the last minute, he recorded "Courtesy of The Red, White and Blue," a musical tribute to his late father and to the men and women fighting in Afghanistan. Its in-your-face lyrics and attitude made it an instant hit, and Keith became an in-demand guest on television and radio shows. So when ABC News called to invite Keith to play on its Fourth of July concert special, it seemed to be just the latest in a string of high-profile invitations for Keith. But, a few days later, when the network rescinded its invitation, citing Keith's lyrics as "objectionable," it turned into a high profile controversy which gained national attention.moreless
