Lacey gets the job of convincing a good-looking young doctor to set up shop in town. But Lacey and the rest of Dog River get less than they bargained for when the doctor arrives. Then Hank has to find a place to crash while his house is getting fixed, setting off a chain reaction of house swapping as people try to avoid living with him. Finally Brent is annoyed when he inadvertently winds up with what might be a counterfeit 100 dollar bill only to find it has a positive affect on his life.moreless
  • Dog River lobbies to get the new doctor to live in town.

    9.3
    "Superb"
This episode sees Dog River in need of a doctor. A new doctor is coming, and Lacey is elected to meet and greet the newcomer, and convince him to stay in Dog River. The committee (with an acronym that is unpronounceable, but funny) suggests that Lacey dress "provocatively, but not slutty" in order to help convince the doctor. Lacey does so, and sets out to meet the bus.

Unfortunately, there's a hitch. There's always a hitch in Dog River....the new doctor is a woman, and she's something else. She's hilarious, is what she is -- she's from a small town, and isn't used to someplace as big and fast-paced as Dog River. And, of course, everything that everyone says to the new doctor has the opposite effect of what was intended. All situations (including the sub-plot of Hank needing a place to stay) are misunderstood by the new doctor, resulting in the doctor becoming more and more upset. As it turns out, this is fine by the townsfolk, as they've decided that they don't really like the new doctor - she's too pokey and small-town for them, and they want to get rid of her. Leaving Lacey on the case seems to be the answer, and in the end, the new doctor goes back to the small town that she came from, and everything in Dog River is as it should be.

The comic idea of having Dog River be the "big city" is what makes this episode work so well. Just that idea alone causes laughter, and seeing someone from a smaller place really makes us sympathize with the Dog Riverites. All in all, this is an excellent episode.moreless

    • Brent: He had a rooster on some kind of a roof, trying to see which side it would lay an egg on. I had no choice, I had to kick him out. Wanda: You got rid of the rooster. Brent: No, Hank. I wanted to keep the rooster. He was cleaner.

    • Emma: How do you like Dog River? Dr. Chris Garner: Well, it takes a bit of getting used to. I'm accustomed to a slower pace. Emma: There's a slower pace?

    • Davis: If a rooster lays an egg on the roof, which side does it roll down? (Hank ponders for a while) Hank: Aha, the egg is square.

    • Karen: Hey, Lacey's talking to our new doctor! Hank: Oh yeah, what's he like? Karen: He's a she. Hank: Uh.. our new doctor's a transvestite? Karen: No Hank, she's a woman! Hank: A woman transvestite?

    • (looking at a Canadian 100-dollar bill) Brent: Thank you, Prime Minister Gordon! Brent mistakenly refers to the picture on the bill as "Prime Minister Gordon". It is, in fact, Prime Minister (Sir Robert) Borden, who was Prime Minister from 1911 to 1920.
