This week was a montage of stories as a fast paced story was played out. The nice thing is that although it was fast pace, it was not rushed. They even took their time to add three 'C' stories rather than just the usual one. This was mostly done to pad a thin main story line.
Speaking of thin, the main story once again revolves around Brent. This time, it is his thinning hair and receding hairline. This story on its own was not big enough of a whole episode arc. Thankfully the writers saw this too and added two other small stories to fill the gap instead of stretching the hair jokes too thin.
The highlight of the hairline story was when Lacey gives his hair a little lift with a mango shampoo. Of course, it looks exactly like it did, at least to Lacey. To Brent's chagrin everyone notices though. This includes a farmer that just needs to keep sniffing Brent's hair. Brent eventually comes to terms with his hair, which is just in time for Lacey to mention his ears just before the credits.
The secondary stories were about an auction for some lady who died. Wanda ends up buying an ugly old elephant lamp, while Davis gets an ugly mounted fish. Wanda and Emma then end up in a battle of wills as Emma wants her lamp back (she had loaned it to the old lady over 10 years earlier), and Wanda wants to keep it since it is worth about fifteen hundred dollars.
In the meantime, Davis really does not like the fish and Karen will not let him put it up on the wall at the office. Davis attempts to get rid of it several times. Hank even offers to take it off Davis' hands for twenty bucks. Davis accepts until he realizes that Hank was charging Davis 20 bucks to dispose of the fish at the dump. In the end, Oscar buys it.
The tertiary stories were about Hank try to fix small appliances and Lacey learning magic for Oscar. Hank wants to help Brent by fixing the compressor in the milk fridge. Brent agrees to allow Hank to fix some things that are broken around the station to prove his worth. Hank ends up repairing the gas bell with a door bell; fixes the fan, although it sucks instead of blows; and Hank fixes the elephant lamp. "Now the lamp can take a 150 watt halogen", and makes the lamp worthless as a turn of the century antique.
It turns out that Oscar has no concept of perspective. When Lacey gives him his usual sandwich on a bigger plate, he complains that the portion is smaller. To demonstrate that the plate changed and not the sandwich, she puts a coffee cup beside the plate, but then he asks why she shrunk the coffee cups.
Lacey comes to realize that when she does magic tricks (like making pop disappear by pouring a full small glass of pop into a larger glass, which is no longer full) Oscar does not complain. However, she ends up blowing it by "going all Hollywood" with a fancy coin trick.
Overall, this is one of the better episodes for the season to date. It had me laughing out loud for the first time in weeks, and kept the pace moving all the way through the show.
