    • TRIVIA (4)

      ADD TRIVIA
      • Wanda's birth certificate lists her date of birth as April 16, 1968, her height as 5' 0" and her eye colour as green. The licence is valid from Nov. 1, 2002 to Oct. 31, 2010. The final number in the year of date on the licence is smudged; It looks like it was originally 1966, but was changed to 1968. Wanda is supposed to be the same age as Brent (and Hank), and Brent turns 40 in the final episode of this season, making his year of birth 1968; thus, Wanda's year of birth must be 1968 as well.

      • (Brent reads The Howler with the headline: Make-out bench causes moral tailspin) Brent: At least with my tree the kids keep their pants on. There's probably going to be a population boom now, thanks to your sex bench. Oscar: It's not a sex bench! It's a make-out bench. And it's not a make-out bench! Brent: Whatever you say, Hef. Hugh Hefner (Apr. 9, 1926 - ), whose nickname is 'Hef', is the founder of the Playboy empire.

      • When Lacey drops the key on the deck, in the close-up shot, it lands over the crack between two boards, and is in front of Davis's foot. In the next shot, a long camera shot, the key is in the middle of one board (no longer straddling the gap) and is beside Davis's foot.

      • (Hank and Wanda crawl out from under the deck as the crowd applauds) Lacey: Well good work, Hank. You rescued Groucho Marx. Groucho Marx (Julius Henry 'Groucho' Marx (Oct. 2, 1890 - Aug. 19, 1977)) was a comedian whose distinctive on-stage characteristics included glasses, a cigar, and a greasepaint moustache, much like the one that Wanda is sporting.

      ADD QUOTES
      • Brent: Hey, check out the tree. Lacey: Oh, you're right, it looks sick. Brent: It's not sick! I just planted it. Lacey: You planted it? Brent: Yes! Well, two large men with shovels planted it, but I sponsored it.

      • Oscar: Who the hell do you think you are? Brent: I like when you start a conversation by yelling, no lead up ...right into it. Valuable time saver. Oscar: I was walking downtown, and what should I see, but Brent Leroy's Corner Gas tree! Brent: So you wrote a poem about it? Oscar: That just rhymed by accident.

      • Karen: When I came back into the kitchen, the whole place was clean. Davis: Typical. Karen: No, it's a good thing; the place was a mess before, [Emma] cleaned it up. Davis: Oh, what'd she charge you for it? Karen: She didn't charge me anything; she just did it for free. Davis: So why're you complaining? Karen: I'm not complaining, I'm just telling you about it.

      • Lacey: Lunch special's Salisbury steak. Brent: Ah, nah, I brought my own. I figured I'd have lunch under my tree. Lacey: Oh, I understand. You want to be with it before it dies.

      • Karen: Well I should go into the hall and photocopy this now. Davis: I'll come with you. Emma: It takes two of you to photocopy? Karen: When you're a cop, you work in teams. Davis: It's important to have each other's back, whether making a big bust or photocopying a dainty recipe. Karen: Let's roll.

      • Hank: Where'd you get that bracelet? Lacey: Oh, hey, I used to have one just like that. Wanda: (laughs) I knew that! I saw yours and I thought I should get one myself... exactly like hers. From a store. And get a receipt, so I can prove it... which I have, and I will show you someday.

      • (at Oscar's bench) Brent: I don't know... it looks kind of hard, and uncomfortable. Oscar: Read the plaque. Brent: Courtesy of Oscar Leroy, founder of Corner Gas. Oscar: Now that's a legacy. Brent: Yeah, whenever people get a pain in their ass, they'll think of you.

      • (trying to figure out why Emma didn't clean the office) Karen: Maybe it's you; you can be a little off-putting. Davis: I'm not off-putting; if anything, I'm on-putting. Karen: Bottom line is you blew it. Davis: Your attitude is what's off-putting (Karen leaves) Now I have a craving for pudding.

      • Oscar: Trees are like magnets for booze. Brent: Do you even care about making sense any more?

      • (as Josh nails up the opening under the deck) Wanda: Whoa, whoa, whoa! What are you doing? Lacey: I 'm putting an end to this! The deck is closed. (all the customers on the deck stand and pick up their drinks) Oh, no! No, no, no, the deck isn't closed, just underneath the deck. Deck Customer: You can eat under the deck? Lacey: No. Hank: Sure you can! Lacey: No, you can't. Wanda: Lot of fries down there.

      • Oscar: The only reason that people are making out on my bench is because they're getting all liquored-up under your tree. Brent: They've got to drink to forget all the porn on your bench.

      • Karen: Davis is manipulating you! Emma: What? Karen: Haven't you noticed? Whenever you're around, he says things to make you mad. Emma: Why would he do that? Karen: Guess he just likes to wind you up. Emma: Oh, that selfish... (Karen hands her a broom and Emma begins sweeping)

      • (Wanda is stuck under the deck) Lacey: Unbelievable. You know, I should have put barbed wire around the deck. Wanda: Yeah, this is your fault. So go get someone to help me; I'm stuck! Ruby Deck Person: Oh my god, there's a child stuck under the deck! Lacey: It's not a child; it's Wanda. Ruby Deck Person: Oh. (he turns and goes into The Ruby)

      • (Wanda is trapped under the deck, Hank is also there, tormenting her) Lacey: Whoops! I've dropped my eyebrow pencil. I wonder what you could do with that? Hank: (laughing) Yeah! (pause) What... what could I do with that?

      • This episode first aired on The Comedy Network on March 29, 2008, when a repeat broadcast of "The Eight Samurai" was scheduled to air.

    • ALLUSIONS (1)

      ADD ALLUSIONS
      • (stomping on the deck of The Ruby for Hank, who is under the deck, to follow the sound) Wanda: Did you see the movie Tremors? Maybe it's more like Dune. Well, I mean, I'm not saying that Dune is as campy as Tremors, I'm just saying that they both involve sand creatures. Dune (1984) was a movie based on the first book in the series of novels by Frank Herbert. While the novels were epic in their span, the movie did not do well at the box office on its release and was panned by critics. Featured in both the movie and the books are sand creatures that live below the surface and are attracted by sound. Tremors (1990) was a dark comedy featuring underground creatures that were attracted by sound and used this in order to hunt. Both films were campy, although Tremors intended itself to be so, while Dune fell into campiness accidentally.
