With episode four of the season, it looks like they are finally hitting their stride. The first episode was rather funny, the second was a little tame and the third was funny. Now with the fourth, it is more consistently funny.
With this one we got several quotes that are memorable and humourous. We have the misplaced blame where Hank gets Brent into trouble as if Brent is a gold digger. After all, he never did say he wanted his parents things just that he misheard a conversation. It was a reasonable mistake. But then, this is Corner Gas, that is one of the bases of this comedy.
We also get Lacey being Lacey and getting into more trouble, although she deserves it this time. What was with all the rules for the board and what would happen if the board ran out of space? But at least they are getting a hold of her character, as these goofs are becoming more natural for her.
The whole police purchasing story line was predictable and yet still rather funny. You just knew that the salesperson would over sell to anyone that she talked to, she is just that good. Although having a theme music breathalyzer was both totally unexpected and well done. I cannot help but think that the problem was just dead batteries though.
The final shot was a beautiful allusion to the old Freedom 55 commercials. The "no, I’m you 22 years in the future" will be a classic line in my mind for years to come. Not only did they mock a stupid commercial series, but they made it funnier overall.
Overall, a worthy episode to the Corner Gas stable of episodes.
