12/25/61Christmas Day: The men go to see the ladies football team - the Corinthians. Dennis is bored as Elsie mopes. Minnie entertains Ena and Martha, choking Ena with sixpences in her pudding. Harry buys Concepta a gold watch. Albert, Frank and Ken spend the day together. When their TV goes wrong the Hewitts have to watch the Queen at the Walkers'. Dennis spends Christmas day with Jed not knowing that Elsie has prepared a Christmas dinner for him. He gets round her by taking her to the pictures.moreless -
12/20/61Dennis gets together a costume for the club's Gala fancy dress competition. Ena makes her peace with Minnie and Martha. Concepta is thrilled when Harry buys a new bedroom suite. Dennis shows off his Charles II costume, made out of the resident's cast-offs. -
12/18/61Ena sends her cronies to coventry. Harry & Concepta have a disagreement on the eve of throwing a house-warming party but stifle their feelings to meet their guests. The whole street arrives, but the party fails to warm up, although two forgotten guests get a late invitation. -
12/13/61Albert allows Minnie access to the harmonium but Martha warns her against touching it because of Ena. Len threatens Ken when he suggests Stanley was lying. Ena hears Minnie on the harmonium and although Albert and Martha try to stop her, she traps Minnie in a wardrobe. -
12/11/61In Jubilee Street, Ena has had enough of Minnie's cat, Bobby. Ken starts work at Bessie Street school. Albert moves into the Mission and finds the work hard. Ken makes Stanley Fairclough go outside school in the snow, with his bad chest and annoys father Len in doing so. Dennis tries to bring Elsie out of herself. Minnie secretly helps Albert at the Mission. Jack agrees to the alterations at the Rovers.moreless -
12/6/61The Cheveskis prepare to leave England. Harry refuses to let Concepta return to work permanently. Swindley asks Albert to be the new caretaker at the Mission. The residents throw a leaving party for the Cheveskis, Elsie says goodbye to them and Len runs them to the docks. -
12/4/61Dr Graham tells Jack that Annie is suffering from mild nervous exhaustion. She is put on pills. The Cheveskis hear that someone has cancelled a passage and they can leave before Christmas. The bank refuses Swindley an overdraft. Christine helps out behind the bar. Linda can't bring herself to tell Elsie they're leaving next week but Jack lets it slip.moreless -

Elsie tells Linda she's not going - she won't let her, causing Linda to break down. When Dennis steps in he gets his face slapped. Ken gets a job as relief postman over Christmas, before starting work in January teaching at Bessie Street Secondary Modern. Swindley issues Ena a warning about her drinking, causing her to walk out of the Mission and move in with Minnie in her and her mother's house in Jubilee Street.moreless -

Ken tells him he's not prepared to listen to him calling him 'idle' anymore, he'd do any job to pay his way. Minnie buys a see-through nightie. Word spreads that Ken asked Dennis for a job, Elsie is amused.
