She is appalled by the idea and refuses but he frightens her into agreeing to help. Danny tells Kevin he won't ever try and replace him in the girls' lives. Kevin decides to visit Alison and ask her to marry him. Jerry finds Rebecca and Martin chatting together and accuses them of being lovers. He tells Martin she's a liar and not to be trusted.     Linda spends the night at Nita's and struggles with the machinists delight in her situation. Alma thinks its hysterical that Sergei has proposed to Audrey. Steve advises Leanne to pay Jez off as soon as she can, saying he's no angel. Tom tells Audrey that Duggie is planning to open a Salon round the corner. Tom tells Duggie to accept he wants nothing to do with him. Jez orders Leanne to pay him the £200 she owes him. She is horrified it's built up so much. He advises her to steal from the Rovers' till. Roy feels defeated when the Town Hall tell him the street can't be closed for the party. The residents urge him to press on regardless and reclaim the street. Gail tells Audrey she can't seriously contemplate Sergei's proposal and reminds her Alf hasn't been dead a year. Audrey tells her she's sick of being alone and wants someone to look after her. Rebecca moves her think out of her home. Audrey tells Sergei she can't accept the fact she's getting old and invisible to people. Leanne is tempted to steal from the petty cash but stops herself, realising she can't steal from Natalie. Audrey thanks Sergei for making her feel needed, although she knows it's just a fantasy. He tells her he's serious but is interrupted by the police who arrest him for jumping ship. Audrey is horrified to realise he was only after a passport.moreless

    Mike urges Linda not to leave him, telling her he cares for her and pointing out she can't leave on a Bank Holiday as she has nowhere to go. Audrey loves having Sergei around the house and enjoys flirting with him. Leanne asks Steve to lend her £200 to pay Jez but he refuses. Natalie wants her relationship with Vinny kept secret as she's sick of everyone talking about her. Linda resents being treated as Mike's tart and wants some respect. She wants to feel that she's special. Martin is furious to discover Jerry has given Rebecca a black eye. She tells him she's leaving home. Drunk Linda causes a scene in the Rovers and accuses Alma of scheming to get Mike back. Alma is pleased to see things aren't go smoothly between her and Mike. Frustrated Martin tells Rebecca he's trying hard to be a good husband to Gail. She understands. Steve offers to run a Millennium tombola for Emily, thinking he'll rake in plenty of money. Linda leaves Mike. To keep Jez happy, Leanne goes out with him and feels uncomfortable when he comes onto her. She tells him she's not a little tramp.     Natalie is awkward after spending the night with Vinny. She tells him he shouldn't read too much into their night together. He agrees he doesn't want to spoil their relationship. Audrey is flattered when Sergei asks her to show him around Weatherfield. Ashley tries to give the house back to Fred as Maxine isn't pregnant but Fred tells him it makes no difference, he wants his son to have his own home. Ashley accepts it graciously. Rebecca has a terrible time with Jerry and phones, begging Martin to meet her but he refuses. Duggie tells Tom he's bought into the new Victoria Street development and offers to set him up in his own hair salon. Tom rows with him for never being around when his mother needed him. Duggie tries hard to mend bridges but Tom refuses to give and throws him out, upset. Jez presses Leanne for payment of her debts. Fred is jealous when Audrey spends time with Sergei and urges him to go back to Russia. Sergei feels he's in the way at No. 4 and is pleased when Audrey takes him in, to Fred's horror. Natalie admits to Vinny she's lonely and is grateful when he agrees to stay with her. Linda is furious when Mike takes Alma's belongings round to her.     Gary spends the day with the Duckworths and is stunned when Terry turns up. He thumps Terry and leaves with the twins. Mike is uncomfortable when Linda tackles him about his evening with Alma. She accuses him of not thinking her good enough and storms out on him. Sergei cooks Christmas dinner at No.4, impressing Doreen and Audrey who both find him attractive. Natalie entertains Jim, Kevin and Curly but their depressed conversation is too much for her and she opens the pub up. Vinny was meant to eat with them but can't be found. Martin and Rebecca have a frantic time in Casualty when a young boy dies on them after being knocked down. Ken finds Alma hiding away and insists she spends the day with him and Deirdre. Jack refuses to talk to Terry whilst Vera finally snaps, slaps him across the face and tells him she never wants to see him again in her life. Ashley gives Maxine a kitten for Christmas and is stunned when Fred gives them the house as a present. Fred is disappointed to learn Maxine isn't pregnant. Martin comforts Rebecca over the death of the boy, Simon and they end up making love in a hospital bed. Later, at home, he feels guilty, especially when Gail makes love to him. He fears she's giving him the brush off and goes home, accusing her of ignoring him all evening. Mike finds Alma drinking in the Rovers and talks her into going for a meal. She feels uncomfortable eating with him but he tells her he just hopes they can be friends. They both agree they don't want to just wipe the past out. Mark is amused when the factory girls debag him. Ken gives Tyrone his first reading and writing lesson. Linda takes her friends back to the flat to party. Mark thinks it's a bad idea but she refuses to listen and helps herself to Mike's drinks.     Maxine and Ashley clean up after the flood but the house needs building work and decorating. She insists on having it back to normal in time for Christmas. Vik is furious that Ravi has sold his inheritance and refuses to carry on working for Dev. Nita urges him to be cautious. Toyah overhears Tyrone admitting to Ken he can't read but refusing his help. She tells Tyrone that Ken taught her everything and that he can be trusted. Maxine employs Pat Hegarty to do the structural work on the house, promising him double money. Ravi gives his house to Nita and Vik but Vik doesn't see that as any consolation. Tyrone asks Ken to help him but begs him not to tell anyone as he doesn't want to be laughed at. Martin feels uncomfortable when Rebecca spends the evening with the Platts. Rita cooks Norris a meal and is amused when he spells it out to her that he's not romantically interested in her. Gail makes an effort and finds she likes Rebecca. Tyrone admits to the Duckworths that he can't read or write. Norris suggests Rita opens a sub-post office in the Kabin. She is taken with the idea. Natalie threatens to sack her staff if they can't work out who's working New Year. Toyah is nervous at her party and gets upset when wasted Leanne makes a scene and drags everyone off to a club. Martin tells Gail she has to accept Rebecca is only a friend. She admits its her who has the problem; she's feeling insecure. Rita comes to the end of her tether with Blanche and is taken aback when she tells her she's too moody to work with and resigns. Janice is delighted that Leanne is going out with Mike's son. Ken and Deirdre go to the Court of Appeal where Deirdre's conviction is quashed. She decides that from now on she's concentrating on the future. Mike urges Mark not to take Leanne out but to find a girl with class. Mark tells him he chooses his own girlfriends and points out Linda's a bit of rough. Nita is thrilled when James tells her she should apply for a job at Head Office as area supervisor. He invites her to dinner to discuss it. Ken is disappointed when Deirdre tells him she likes being with him just the way they are. She tells him she does love him though. Rita is amazed when she finds herself offering Norris a job at the Kabin. He jumps at it.     Blanche drafts a threatening letter to send to bad debtors but Rita refuses to send it. Rita is annoyed when Blanche tells her she sent a rep off. Les starts his ten-hour sponsored silence and is annoyed to discover he'll be accompanied at all times. Emily takes him hospital visiting. Rita determines to see the Rep to spite Blanche and then discovers it's Norris Cole. He tries to interest her in Guarana chewing gum and to spite Blanche she places an order. Deirdre is upset when Blanche tells her she could lose her appeal and everyone assumes she'll go back to prison. Gail admits to Alma that she's having a bad time with Martin, ever since she banned sex. Alma suggests she seduces him. Mark gets annoyed when Mike says the Battersbys are scum. Gail gets drunk and tries to seduce Martin but he isn't interested, pointing out it's become an effort for them to be intimate. Les manages his ten hours. Janice is proud of him. Deirdre is touched when Les tells her she doesn't deserve to go to court or go to prison.moreless

    Nita enjoys the course whilst the others long to return home. Blanche starts at the Kabin and horrifies Rita by taking over completely and criticising everything she does. Mike tells Mark he can be his driver, winning him round by saying he can use the car as his own whenever he wants to. Mark is pleased when Leanne agrees to go out with him. Roy realises he's going to have to raise money to fund the street party and considers giving the whole thing up. Nita is thrilled to be presented with the individual award for achievement and to be asked out for a drink by James. To raise money for the street party Les volunteers to undertake a sponsored silence, thinking it'll help his character reference. Linda is stunned to find Mark and Leanne in bed together at the flat.     Mike is kept in a police cell all night. The Frescho team stumble through the moors all night. Ashley worries that Fred can't cope whilst Curly turns into a dictator, bossing the others around. Nita challenges his leadership and takes charge. Fred twists his ankle so Curly suggests leaving him. Ashley refuses to abandon him and Nita suggests they carry him between them. The bear him on an old gate and are sympathetic towards him until they find him secretly eating chocolate. Even Ashley turns on Fred. Curly is forced to hand control over to Nita when the others look to her. Blanche offers her services to Rita as an assistant and doesn't give her chance to refuse. Back at the Lodge, Fred tells the organisers how Curly wanted to leave him on the moors. Mike goes to court, is fined £500 and banned from driving for a year. He feels humiliated. Sally and Danny go for dinner at the Platts but there's an emergency at the hospital so Martin is late getting home, annoying Gail. Frescho boss James Kitching takes an interest in Nita's progress.     Curly, Ken, Fred, Nita, Alma and Ashley arrive at Benbury Lodge for their Forward with Frescho weekend. They are appalled by the basic accommodation and to find they are to be constantly assessed. Fred and Alma refuse to stay as it's like a prison camp but Curly and Nita force them to stay, saying they have to show what the Weatherfield branch is made of. Their first test is to use planks to cross a river. Nita solves the problem but Fred ends up falling in the river. Emily thinks its hysterical when Les asks her for a character reference. She tells him he's a self-centered, conniving con-man who deserves all he gets. Curly worries that his team will let him down and he'll be fired. Driving home from a dinner, Mike and Linda are pulled over. Mike is breathalysed and arrested. The Frescho crowd are woken at 1.30am and driven into the moors and told to make their own way back for breakfast.moreless

Les goes to court and his case is held over until the New Year. His solicitor asks him to proved character references but he realises everyone hates him. Roy tries to drum up interest from the locals for a Millennium party. When no one comes to his meeting he rallies the troops at the Rovers. They decide to have a fancy dress party. Sharon and Ian leave the Street. Sharon tells Rita she'll always be a mother to her but Rita refuses to give her her blessing. Rita is distraught to see her go.moreless

Jack is forced to admit the animal was Vera's slipper. She is furious. Sharon is miffed when Rita tells her she's altered her will and won't be getting anything from her other than the £45,000 for the shop. Gary feels uncertain whether or not to claim benefits. When his mortgage is paid off with Judy's life insurance he doesn't like it as he feels he's benefiting from her death. Martin convinces Gail to allow Sarah to do papers in the mornings. Sharon has enough of people getting at her over taking Rita's money. Ian tells her they don't need to stay and they could go on honeymoon. Steve offers Kevin his van for £2,000 with £600 up front but he's not interested.moreless

Martin tries to make things up to Gail by cooking her a special meal but the mood is ruined when she discovers he gave Sarah money for shoes. He suggests they pretend someone else is interested to get her to rise the offer but Sharon refuses. As no one is interested in the weekend away, Curly allows Fred and Ashley to go. Rita is grateful when Sharon tells her she can buy the Kabin. The Platts sit through a tense meal, with Sarah Louise wanting to go out and Martin angry with Gail bossing everyone about.     Emily is pleased when Gary apologises to her for his behaviour and asks her to babysit. Spider steals Les' file from Miss Finch's office and is nearly caught in the act. Betty gives Gary the collection money again and is pleased when he accepts it graciously. Tyrone tries to train Monica to run out of a trap. Miss Finch catches Spider shredding a file and recognises it as one from her office. She summons him to a meeting, warning him if any of her files are missing he's in trouble. Kevin tries to break down the door but Sally pleads with him to leave them alone for the sake of the girls. Kevin causes a scene, alerting the residents to Greg's presence. Mike and Alison try to calm him and have to restrain him. Greg blames Rosie and Sally has to stop him hurting her. Kevin calls the police and Mike realises the situation is hopeless for him. Greg is furious when the police turn up. Sally begs him to let the girls go but he feels they're his only bargaining tools. Kevin grows impatient as the police refuse to rush the house. Greg blames Sally for ruining his life and tells her he despised her. She tries to keep the girls occupied but they are terrified as Greg shouts and hurts Sally. Ken is appalled when Deirdre tells him about Mike being blackmailed over his affair. He feels the police should be told. The police surround No. 13. When Greg rips the phone from the wall the girls scream, causing the police to smash into the house. Roy and Hayley visit Jessica at St Paul's and find the church exactly what they're looking for. Jessica isn't bothered by Hayley's sexuality but tells them she'll have to carefully consider her position. Deirdre feels she and Ken live in each other's pockets and there's no need for them to be more 'together' but Ken insists that they owe it to themselves to give their relationship one last try and move in together. Sharon is surprised and annoyed when Rita backtracks and suggests a handing over period of a few months, with them having a 50-50 partnership. Gail tells Nick Canada is no longer an option now the baby is coming. Tom assures Maxine that Audrey will crawl to her to return now he's resigned. She tells him that all his plans and ambitions will go out of the window when the baby's born. Jackie refuses to move out in exchange for £1,000 but Curly refuses to pay her. Audrey is furious to learn Maxine is giving Vera free hair-cuts in return for her cleaning the Salon. Martin is amazed when Administrator Yorke tells him he can start in the Casualty department. Yorke explains Audrey's friends have threatened not to renew his contract if he doesn't let Martin return. Jackie is thrilled when Darren arrives but to her amazement he aplogises to Curly and Spider for her behaviour. He refuses to let her hit anyone and orders her to pack, saying he's taking her and Tyrone back home with him. Jackie thinks he's romantic. Curly and Spider are relieved. Martin thanks Audrey for helping to get his job back. The Dobbs leave the Street. Linda chats up Robert and is disappointed when he tells her he's married. Tracy admits to Deirdre that Dan did want an affair with her but she didn't. Deirdre urges her not to make the mistakes she's made and advises her to stick with Robert. Rita accuses Sally of trying to put Sharon off accepting the Kabin as she wanted it herself. Curly and Spider enter No. 7 whilst Tyrone is alone and refuse to leave. Blanche returns and is pleased to hear from her spy, Betty, that Ken and Deirdre have been in each other's company a lot. Hayley pulls out a nail sticking from the cafe's skirting board. Janice is furious when Jackie says she looks like Margaret Thatcher and has to be stopped from hitting her. Lorraine takes Steve to the disco and is annoyed when he dumps her on Ashley and makes a play for Linda. Linda makes it clear she's interested in him and they leave together. Jackie is interested to discover some of Les' albums are worth money. Alma urges Roy to forgive Hayley before he loses her. Les is thrilled when Jackie comes on to him. Blanche wins the disco raffle. The prize is a week at Blundell Sands. Janice is furious when Les gives Jackie the prize for the best costume. Hayley is thrilled when Roy turns up at the disco and makes up with her. Lorraine gets drunk and, to get at Spider, makes a pass at Ashley. Ashley is thrilled when she suggests they spend the night together. Les is mortified when he discovers Jackie trying to make off with his rare Buddy Holly album. Janice sees him searching her and gets the wrong idea. She hits him and smashes the record. Lickley lectures his staff on going behind his back and asking for official investigations of the Vale. He makes sure Martin knows it was him and threatens him with libel. Les borrows Toyah's speakers for his system but overloads it and blows them. She is furious. Sharon goes down with flu and has to cancel a weekend away with Ian. Martin rows with Audrey for talking to Lickley about the inspection but she swears she's not said anything. When he finds out it's her night off, Ian takes Natalie out for a meal. Vikram takes alcohol from the shop to get Maxine drunk. Hayley spies on Roy and his dance tutor Beryl. When she trips over in the garden he finds her. Fred tries to get her to buy the furniture in the flat but she refuses. Martin is pleased when he manages to secure a place for Walter in his sister's home but when he comes to tell him he discovers Walter is dead. Vikram is taken with Maxine. Martin rows with Audrey for not having done anything to help Walter. Lorraine flirts with Steve but he isn't interested in her. In the end they don't get the jobs because they have no catering experience. Alison doesn't like the idea of a Welfare Officer questioning her about her relationship with Kevin. Jack asks Mike to put in a good word for him and Vera at the golf club. Mike is amused to think of them as club stewards. Natalie sees that Colin genuinely mourns Des and realises they both need to talk about Des. They go out to a bar together and discuss how their lives have changed since Des' death. Jack and Vera look round the golf club. She feels they're out of their league but he hopes Mike and Fred will stand for them. Hayley is pleased when the girls make her social secretary and ask her to find a venue for their disco. Nita is relieved when Fred agrees to sell the shop for £7,000 extra. Ravi is annoyed to have spent so much but Fred is delighted. When Fred refuses to pay Maud any redundancy she tells Ravi how Fred has tricked him. Les offers Janice a holiday in Paris if she keeps quiet. Kevin is pleased when Alison agrees to go out with him. Fred introduces Maud and Ashley to his new assistant, Nita. Ashley thinks she's gorgeous. She shows an interest in every aspect of the shop. Roy struggles, in vain, top make his coffee machine work.     Audrey breaks down at Alf's funeral and seeks reassurance from Gail that she came through in the end by providing her with a father. Emily and Ken are annoyed when Blanche condemns Alf for always looking after himself and not the Community. The Mayor offers Audrey Alf's title and to become "Mrs Millennium" but she fears it will make her sound ancient. When she finds out about the insurance policy running out on New Years' Eve, Audrey insists he must have died before midnight. She becomes hysterical when no one can confirm he died on the 31st. They interview Nick who feels uncomfortable shopping Leanne's brother but she tells him Greg deserves to be locked up. Les is horrified to hear Sally's saying Greg hit her. When the police interview him he says Sally must be inventing the whole story. When he sees Sally he warns her to keep her mouth shut but Kevin sees him off. The Duckworths are surprised when Natalie tells them they'll have to vacate the living quarters as she intends to move in herself. The Malletts decide to call the twins William and Rebecca Joyce. Les is furious when he hears Nick told the police about Greg attacking Sally. When Leanne stands by Nick he tells her she's no longer his daughter.moreless

Factory girl, Alison Wakefield finds Kevin attractive. She has too much to drink and introduces herself to him. He is flattered by her interest and kisses her on the stroke of midnight. The Duckworths are upset to find their ruined clothes dumped in the back yard. As the residents see in the New Year, Martin discovers Alf dead in his chair at the Platt's party.
