    • TRIVIA (4)

      • This episode was featured on the Network DVD "Coronation Street - 1969" released in 2006.

      • Diana Davies, later to be a regular as Norma Ford (from episode 1186) features in this episode as the control voice.

      • This episode was repeated on Saturday 9th May 1981 as part of Granada TV's 25th anniversary celebrations. The other episodes to be repeated were 1, 16, 375, 668 and 702 (see extended note on episode 1).

      • The famous "Lake District coach crash" episode was supposed to be the first episode of the programme made in colour but Executive Producer HV Kershaw was unable to obtain any 16mm colour film stock for the cameras and therefore normal monochrome stock was used instead. Location scenes filmed at the same time, also in black and white, featured in the next episode where the studio scenes were videotaped in colour, making for a very strange-looking episode! In the end it didn't matter as ITV didn't begin colour signal transmissions until Saturday 15th November 1969 making episode 928 of the programme two days later the first that viewers could watch in colour. The reasons for this early shooting in colour for something that couldn't be screened in that way are possibly threefold:
        1) Later sales to countries that wanted colour material.
        2) The possibility of strike action delaying the programme being shown for several episodes beyond Monday 17th - something that had occured a few times already on the programme.
        3) The need to practise shooting in the new medium as changes had to be made to set, costume and make-up tones to adjust to the new cameras.

    • QUOTES (0)

    • NOTES (2)

      • Songs sung on the coach before the crash.
Keep Right on to the End of the Road written and performed by Harry Lauder (a Scottish Music Hall entertainer) for his son, John, who was killed in action in 1916 at Poiziers.
For Me and My Girl is a song from a musical play of the same name which was first performed in 1937. Written by Douglas Furber and L. Arthur Rose with music by Noel Gay.

      • The song sung at the pub on the outing is Any Old Iron. It's an old English Music Hall song made famous by Harry Champion as part of his act.
