  • Rita, staggering from recent shocks, has had a nervous breakdown and in her mind is still married to Len - the marriage lasted from 1977 until Len's death in 1983... Moving day for Alf and Audrey, and hello to Steve and Andy McDonald...moreless

I found the Rita storyline slightly clichéd and silly - even back in 1989. Amnesia? Faintly Acorn Antiques, wasn't it?

Still, it was good to hear mention of Len - although the era Rita's mind had retreated to is not, in reality, as specific as the TV.com summary and the book "Weatherfield Life" both state - it could actually be any time from 1977-1983. Rita ALWAYS sang under her maiden name of Littlewood, and appeared to believe during her 1989 breakdown that she was still married to Len - she asked Bet how he was coping without her. She occasionally took on singing engagements after her marriage and actually left Len in 1980 to live in Blackpool, though the couple was reconciled.

I believe her breakdown had left her mentally nestling somewhere between 1977 and 1983.

The moving day perils of Alf and Audrey are a delight to behold and Audrey's final horror on encountering the Duckworths at the hotel had me spluttering with laughter. Who would have thought that Audrey and Annie Walker were sisters under the skin?! Introducing the social climbing side to Audrey's personality was sheer inspiration on the part of the production team.

Great to see "Big Jim" McDonald rumbling away at the sight of the junk heaped in his backyard - and Steve and Andy McDonald, first seen here, are very much of the era, seeming to have taken their fashion sense from Bros!

This episode mixes high drama and great comedy to marvellous effect. Although I don't think much to the amnesia aspect, it's still a fine example of late 1980s Corrie.moreless
