  • This episode is a sign of things to come. It's only the 7th episode, but, in retrospect, you can see the show changing drastically from its original, off-putting premise

This is the first episode that had me really hooked on the show. Cougar Town is at its strongest when it just focuses on the Cul-de-Sac Crew (thank you, Grayson!) hanging out and being there for each other. It's the first time Grayson breaks out his guitar, we get the first original song (Confident in My Sexuality), we get the first mention of the Cul-de-Sac Crew, and slowly things are changing for the better. It takes a little more time until the show completely ditches the already tired 'cougar' premise, but it does and this episode marks the beginning of the change. Also, early Jules and Grayson are just adorable.moreless

    "Abysmal"
At the end the neighbors dog is killed by the alligator and the sounds of it's death are very graphic and Cox's character made lite of it. Very disgusting and not at all funny. This episode marked the sudden downfall in ratings for the show. The ratings have not recovered as of this date yet and the show was almost canceled. It was removed from the air in Australia for a period of time. This show has bad enough problems without the writer Sanjay Shah delivering such hateful garbage. There is no excuse for such sick minded work. Disgusting!moreless

  • How can this even be a prime time TV show...

    "Poor"
I get why people like this show and I can easily picture the demographic that actually watches this nonsense. It does make sense economically - you have a popular actor like Cox playing an attractive rich single woman, in an upscale Florida neighborhood - and people who can relate to her character are people whom the ad messages are intended for. I get it, more than a comedy that follows certain conventions like 30 Rock or Two and a Half Men, this one focuses on creating a feelgood environment. I mean, who wouldn't feel upbeat after watching small screen version of a perfect life filled with happy people surrounded by happy friends driving convertibles and stuff. You can make references to guy material like Rudy or Shawshank Redemption at random times, but bottom line, the men on the show are freaking gaymoreless

  • Grayson bets Jules twenty dollars that she can't be alone for the day on Saturday. Of course he is correct. So after spending about 22 minutes alone, Jules starts planning a fun day Saturday Barbecue by the pool, all the time trying to fool Grayson.moreless

    "Great"
OK, a pretty silly episode with not much happening. Sort of a throw away, but better than last weeks slightly mean episode with the break up.

There needs to be at least a plot to a sitcom. This was a bunch of bits thrown together to make a twenty one minute episode.

The theme is pool, barbecue, and gator. Ellie and Andy are fighting over Ellie never appreciating the things Andy does. Laurie is dumped by her crazed and dangerous boyfriend so she spends the day getting attention from Travis who has puppy dog eyes for her. Bobby is being Bobby. There is an alligator roaming the neighborhood. Finally Jules is just trying to get Grayson over to her house to have some fun.

The bit with the older distinguished gentlemen and Jules being dropped off in front of Grayson and his much younger date was a hoot.

In general nothing but a throw away. Still an enjoyable half hour sitcom and fun to watch. Better than most other than three of the Monday night CBS lineup. Thanks for reading...moreless

It is official: Cougar Town is no longer a comedy. From a dramatic standpoint, this episode was really not THAT bad. If you break it down technically, they did a lot of things correctly. The annoying protagonist, finally got the annoying antagonist to become a part of the "in-group" of the community, thereby completing the hero's journey.

But the way it was done was just so horrible...so so horrible. I laughed maybe twice here, probably less than I did during the first four episodes. People still like this show as its ratings are solid. I just do not understand why.moreless

    • Grayson: (singing) She likes a pacemaker, she's a hip breaker, she likes them almost dead. (Stops singing) That's all I've written so far, but I'm very proud of it. Jules: It's haunting. Grayson: You know that girl I was with? She is eleven years younger than me. If you add that to the age difference between you and your date, it's 611 years. Jules: Mine wasn't a date, okay? I just went out for some coffee. Grayson: You can't stand to be alone for a second can you? Jules: That is ridiculous. Grayson: Then why'd you go out with father time? Jules: Because I am a history buff, and I haven't been in a car with only a lap belt in a long time. Edit
