Amazingly funny and refreshing. Yeah, it wasn't flawless, but it was such a great fun! Courteney Cox plays Jules - quite lonely and desperate 40-something newly divorced woman who would like to find a new meaning in love, most importantly new love or better yet - get laid. She nails this character and the other actors are amaying as well. Christa Miller is totally funny + Josh Hopkins plays his typical combo of witty/hot/ignoring guy who screws everything under the age of 30 that has a tramp stamp on it. This funny little show has been running from me for like two and a half years now, seen the pilot episode back in September 2009 but I guess I was busy so with a few of my favorite shows going off the air I am finally able to enjoy and appreciate this show.
  • I'd rather watch anything else.

This is the pilot of the show Cougar Town. When I saw the previews, which they always show the best clips on, it looked semi interesting and made me curious to check the show out. I enjoyed Courtney Cox's acting in Friends so I thought that I would check this show out. Unfortunately, the time I spent watching this show could have been better used doing anything else but watching this show. I'm sad to say that I didn't enjoy one minute of the show and I most certainly don't ever plan on watching another episode. I do, however, hope that they remove this show and put something better on its time slot.
  • Great start, seems like a really funny show, I'll definitely keep watching if it continuous like that

I did not intend to watch it after what I've heard about the concept for the show, but I was bored and gave it a go - fortunately.

This episode had me laughing from start to finish.

It all starts out at a football game where Jules and Laurie are talking about the hot young boys around them, while Jules' son Travis is sitting right next to them.

The episode starts off with one of its best moments when Jules and Laurie discuss a particular young man who has taken his shirt off:

Jules: "I mean if I thought that no one would talk about me... Well, you see that young gentleman right there? I'd love to lick his body!"

    Woman: "That's my son!"

    Jules: "Oh..he looks smart"

The acting and delivery is just perfect!

This could be a new addition to my weekly shows, so ABC don't screw it up!
  • A woman who is forty named Jules is recently divorced. She has a male neighbor who has been divorced for a week and he is going to bed with some young thing every night. Jules is trying to juggle a job, an ex-husband, her son, and a possible new life.

This could be the comedy hit of the year. A very funny, at times laugh out loud, comedy starring Courtney Cox as Jules. You've got to love Jules as she is aware of all of her faults physically and mentally. In a way she is a wreck. What she doesn't realize is she is sexy, with it, and a pretty foxy Cougar.

The rest of the cast looks like a fun time as well. Her best friend and next door neighbor Ellie Torres played by Christa Miller-Lawrence and her son Travis played by Dan Byrd stand out in this the Pilot episode.

Jules has a real estate business which she runs with her assistant and other close friend Laurie Keller played by Busy Philipps and she pays alimony to her ex-husband Bobby played by Brian Van Holt who she has been supporting for twenty years. Then there is the obnoxious neighbor Grayson Ellis played by Josh Hopkins who is sleeping with younger women at an alarming rate. Everything seems to be a little over emphasized in this show. Last but not least we have Ellie's husband Andy played by Ian Gomez.

A little out there in a lot of ways but not any worse than say Two and a Half Men is its comedic style and sex appeal. I think ABC may have a hit on its hands if this is promoted properly. Thanks for reading...
  • Ehhh.. I'm going to wait for future episodes to make a decision.

I'm on the fence right away about this new show. Courtney Cox was funny in Friends, okay in Dirt and pretty awful in every other movie she's been in since. But in this show, under the sure hand of Bill Lawrence, creator of Scrubs, she seems to have regained some of the fire that was missing in her previous roles. Of course, the show itself isn't remarkably funny and some of the characters are less than interesting.. but I'm going to give it a couple of weeks before I make an overall decision.

Courtney Cox was by far the best part of the show. She was kind of like Phil in the premiere of Modern Family right before this episode: trying too hard to be hip and coming off as funny in the process. However, unlike Phil, the humor is sort of subpar (except for some great lines that she delivers a few times throughout the episode("Man, you are hot as balls!")).

I was a bit disappointed that the woman who plays Jordan in Scrubs (her name escapes me at the moment, but I'm sure the name of the character was Eliot.. JUST like in Scrubs) wasn't given more to do. It seems like a poorly written, simply "alright" character.

I've heard from different websites that the second episode is MUCH better, so I'll wait and give that a chance. But for now, I'm just going to remain on the fence. Unlike Modern Family, the pilot hasn't sold me quite yet.
  • I think a score of seven is quite fair.

The premiere of this show was hyped up a lot in Australia, and I don't feel that it lived up to what it was may out to be.

I find the concept to be simply boring. They could've done something a lot more exciting with Courteney Cox, and I don't think this show does her justice.

However, in this episode, I did think there were quite a few funny moments and that is why I decided to go from an average score of five to seven, which is good.

I think that the show has potential after what I saw in this episode, but I wonder if it will live up to it.

    Good episode.

Cougar Town is the fourth show of ABC's new comedy block which has received much hype and praise, many of which is unwarranted. This show had a few solid lines, but ultimately is a colossal mess that is comparable to "Desperate Housewives on speed". Things move to quickly, there was really no character development, and the viewer is forced to throw reality out the window when watching. Not necessarily as far as Courtney Cox goes because she was probably as perfect casting as you could get for the role as an awkward, yet still attractive forty something mother, but even she cannot salvage this train wreck.

Aliens in America's Dan Byrd provides a few laughs as the teenage son of Cox, but his attempts to be a young Michael C. Hall are really noticeable and just not working on this show.

I can see why some people, mainly women, might like this show, but it needs a lot of work.
  • Very funny, Cox joyful performance, top notch production quality, light mores but empathic characters

I didn't have high expectations for this episode but in the end it was quite a pleasant surprise. In fact I only decided to watch it because it reminded me of American Pie's MILF funny concept and of course because Courteney Cox seemed like the perfect cougar. I enjoyed her performance in Dirt and even if the show wasn't great it wasn't bad either so when it got canceled I was wondering if she would find an other controversial project. I bet she did but this time it's all about mixing the high school and hot single mum worlds. The production quality is impressive and when I read Cougar Town was a sitcom I was expecting something more like How I Met Your Mother. The contrary as it should remind you of shows like Desperate Housewives and Weeds. Cox performance as Jules Cobb was quite good and in general it felt like most actors and actresses enjoyed doing their part, from the teenage son mad at his mother and friends to the annoying but friendly man next door. Moreover Cox was really gorgeous and I specially liked a striped dress Jules wore. And the jokes worked really well because I kept laughing the whole time. A beautiful and funny woman. What's not to like ? Of course you could question the morality behind the show and character grotesque attitude at times but once you realize it's just good entertainment then you jump into the pool and enjoy the experience. My only complain would be that the writers should have used the hybrid concept as an excuse to introduce the younger audience to safe sex. The pool scene sort of shocked me for example. Also I can't help comparing it to Californication because in that show David Duchovny plays Hank Moody, who hits on young adults and in fact every women he talks to. Jules is definitely not like him and she questions her acts but like she explained she's just tired of her daily routine. She wants to do wacky things instead of thinking all the time about them. I'm sure many viewers should be able to relate to her and other characters. So it's not as dramatic and smart as Hung, a show where the fourty-something years old protagonist becomes a gigolo, but I think the show deserves our attention.

I watched this pilot twice: when it premiered and when they replayed it the following day. I'm a huge Courteney Cox fan as Friends has to be my number 1 favorite show in the universe. I've been waiting for this show for years. It has been a year or two since it was announced that Courteney Cox and Bill Lawrence would create a show called Cougar Town. And my first impressions of the show are good. Courteney Cox is great in this role. The storylines are good, could be improved. It was funny and great characters. The funniest part was her friend "You left that at the bar!"

Cougar Town is about a newly single 40 something woman back in the dating pool full of younger, much younger men. And she has a 17 year old son whos school are the cougars. A good pilot. But will it hold up? I mean I hope they don't have every episode about her being with a younger guy. Let's hope it stays good.
  • Not sure if I'm staying in this town...

What's It About?: Courteney Cox = the Cougar in Town

Sorry, I got too lazy with that one, but it's a fair summary of the premise, right? Maybe it's just me, but I don't find Courteney Cox all that hot, so that pretty much should ruin the show for me. Bossy and OC Monica just keeps popping in my head. But the show has more to offer than just Cox's supposed hotness. I did like some of the supporting characters like her neighbor Christa Miller-Lawrence ("Go do disgusting things to that boy.") and son played by Dan Byrd.

Verdict: I'm on the fence with this one. It will all depend on how overloaded my overloaded TV schedule turns out to be. And some are saying Cougar Town's likely headed to Cancel Town, so I'll just have to wait and see.
  • Cortney rocks. Finally a new show that doesn't play it 'safe'. We have the male version of this show (40s guy chasing younger women) in 'Two and a Half Men'. I am surprisd at some of the backlash reviews of this show. If you like P.C. shows, pass on this

I laughed so hard, I was crying! The kid hitting the car after being flashed was a freaking riot! I think I wore out the rewind feature of our DVR from missing the show from lauging out loud (literally). I almost fell out of my chair when she went into the kids bedroom and it was plastered with signs/posters of her! This show will be a gem, no doubt! We need to stop taking our comedy so seriously. Lighten up. Have fun. It is refreshing to hear dialog you normally don't hear in normal conversation! Some of the one liners were precious! This is NOT a documentary. It is a comedy. There will be some over the top situations!

The cast is awesome. Cortney, isn't a cougar IMO... still 5+ years shy of it I think.. But still hot and really is a good fit for the role I think. Love her attitude in the show.

If the show takes off, we can think of it as a 30-something woman turning into a cougar. It is SO nice for a show not to play it 'safe' like so many other shows.

The show kinda reminds me of a female 'Califonication' type show. Better/funnier than 'sex and the city' for sure. Some flair of Scrubs (same writer).

If you don't like a show with a lot of sexual inuendos, adult situation, and adult/suggestive dialog, then change the channel! It is NOT a P.C. type show. My only concern is if they blew all their creative juices on the pilot. I hope they can keep the ball rolling in the upcoming episodes. If you are not a prude.. you will like the show!
  • Courtney Cox is great and the show is hilarious!

This pilot episode was laugh out loud funny! Courtney Cox was perfect, and the supporting cast is great. I can see this show only getting better. The show really seems to have it all - the funny assistant, the bratty teen son, the supportive neighbor / best friend, the loser ex-husband. Courtney Cox really seemed to be in top form. She plays a forty-something single mom, but doesn't come off as too desperate and shows that you can still have fun when life gives you a raw deal. The only downside is that it is another show that has people who live a lot better than almost everyone that I know. Still, I highly recommend it if you just like to watch and have fun.
  • Courtney Cox's new series..

    "Mediocre"
The reasons I decided to pick up watching Cougar Town is because of a) Courtney Cox and b) Christa Miller. I grew up in the age of Friends, so obviously I absolutely adore all 6 characters, and my fourth favorite would be Monica. Christa Miller was decently funny in Scrubs, so yes..reason 2.

The premiere has been clearly lacking quality. But yes, it is too early to judge. The acting is way off mark, and it can't be made any more obvious that the actors are reading from the teleprompters. In fact, there was one scene, where I could see the screen which was reflected on Cox's eyes. To be clear - I am no sexist or anything of that sort. But, the show is clearly a chick flick just like Samantha Who. And I wouldn't be surprised if it meets the same fate.

3 hot 40-something women in a literal sense of desperate housewives, doesn't seem like a viable concept on the longer run. Again, its a case of wait and see.
  • Painful to watch

We meet Jules, a women who at her twenties took on marriage and a baby instead of experiencing the dating scene. Now on her forties, she finds herself as a divorcee and eager to live the dating scene that she missed.

This was one of the worst Pilots I have seen this Fall, as some have already mentioned every joke is about sex, you start to get tied of the jokes because of this and also because most of the jokes are not funny. I'm a big fan of Friends so I was excited to see Courteney Cox return to Sitcom. Sadly it was very dissapointing and I had turned it off after fifteen minutes of watching.
  • Every single joke is about sex

    "Good"
Courtney Cox is definitely a TYPE of actress. Not that she's bad, but she doesn't have a lot of range. I like her. But of everything I've seen her in, she's either Monica from Friends or Gail from Scream. Either OCD and yelling, or a stern b*tch. In Cougar Town, she's the former.

If Courtney Cox yelling every single line is funny for you, then you'll have a great time. Interestingly, the rest of the show isn't as one-note as many might expect. Oh, wait- yes it is. Everything is about sex. That doesn't bother me too much, masturbation jokes, cradle-robbing, c-sections, and of course, cougars. Not just old women going after young boys, but the football team of the town! Get it? I didn't really laugh at all while watching, but the show did make me smile- particularly the BJ joke. The problem is, it all comes off as a bit desperate. Desperate for the Sex and the City crowd. Desperate for viewers to get 'raunchy' material without turning to cable. Desperate for someone from Friends to have a career outside of that old show.

Nevertheless, the show isn't horrible by any means, and may certainly find it's female audience. Not a home run, but certainly good enough to stick around for a bit.
