Why on earth will there be another season of this show????????????????? The frist 3 season were enjoyable. Season 4 was a catastrophy!!!! Courtney Cox is like Monica on friends, a control freak.. !! Jellie Bean's role is also not worth even mentioning!!!!
The negative reviews are a bit over exaggerated. Not that everyone has to like this show, but why root for something to be canceled and people be out of jobs? Calm down. I'm a 21 year old straight guy and this show provides great entertainment.
Back to the point, this show has relatable characters, continuity, meta-humor (the show doesnt take itself too seriously, even makes fun of itself during the opening title), the 4th wall is broken all the time, the relationships between the characters are always evolving and being explained and the characters are aware of their flaws. Sometimes the acting does seem lazy, but it's really more to say about the storyline at the time rather than the quality of the show or characters. The long running gag of them all loving wine is a good one, (WINE BAR!!) and also just to finish off my fanboy review, I hope whenever the series finale airs rolls around that Laurie and Travis end up together, the will they, wont they they've had the whole show has been really intriguing.
The cast, mainly Courtney Cox, Busy Phillips, Dan Byrd and Christa Miller are the shining stars. The soundtrack is amazing! Oh and last but NOT least, it's BUDDY BUDDY SHOUT-OUT show, is Community! My favorite comedy!
I love Courtney Cox but I have tried to like this show & I can't! A bunch of sex craved 40 year olds drinking all the time acting like they are 15. There is no story line. It's almost stupid. Sorry!!!!
I have the entire Friends DVD series and have yet to watch an episode, yet I just love this cast, especially Courtney Cox. It reminds me a bit of The New Adventures of Old Christine. With the exception of Whitney I do not watch network shows. I bought the first three seasons and I absolutely love the show. Someone suggested skipping the first three seasons. That would be akin to reading Dragon's Teeth and not the other 10 books in the Upton Sinclair classic best selling series World's End. You have to watch the development of the characters from the beginning. I am in the first DVD of season two and it gets better and better with each new episode. I am a big fan and I am so grateful TBS picked this series up. Racey and edgy with great one liners. It may not be for everyone, but that is why you have a clicker! Stephen
I watched one episode and from that could not imagine WHY anyone would want to watch a show about a bunch of drunks? The are all a bunch of losers depicting to me the reason there are so many degenerates in this society.
There is absolutely no substance to this show. It is a rehash of Friends without the humor and without the stories--just Courtney Cox making out and wrestling with her girlfriends. I cannot wait for this show to be canceled. Courtney Cox is setting women back another thirty years.
This idea of this show disgusted me before I had even seen it; but I gave it not 1 but 2 chances... My judgement did not let me down. It's a sitcom, there's no unraveling plot or character build up. Finding it entertaining (or NOT) shouldn't take any longer than one-22 minute segment. As if COURTNEY COX' HIDEOUS FACE-LIFT isn't discouraging enough, the acting is a joke, the comedy is absent, and "nostalgic" would be a compliment to the cast. FOUR SEASONS!!?? Are you fucking kidding me!? I like bad TV as much as the next American, but C'MON.
I've tried and tried to watch this show, because I've had a thing for Krist Miller since her Drew Cary days (my God i look at her face for days on end), but I just can't get into it. It's like they're all trying too hard; like Scrubs, only with a more mature group of nuts. Now, if they'll just only do twenty minutes of with the camera on Krista, then I would watch.
Really??? Whats wrong with people??? And why is courtney cox overdoing it??? She has a shine on her face because of the makeup!!! Its a glare!! She was good in Friends!! Amazing in it!! But this??? The acting is good but the story and screenplay is awful!!!
I dont't think it's part of Cougar Town, but I found the game Penny Can in the app store. It inspired me to go back and watch Cougar Town again. I watched all 3 seasons in a weekend! Love every bit of it, especially now that I can play Penny Can with the cul de sac crew
I absolutely love this show, even though it has now been switched to TBS, I am just glad it did not get cancelled! Please don't cancel this show, I love the entire cast..Jules and Ellie are so hilarious and I think it is thee best when they bring in the cast members of their previous popular shows onto Cougar Town. Those were my favorite episodes; the one with Pheobe as that doctor, Jennifer as the therapist and allll the Scrubs cast on that one episode =) I LOVE COUGAR TOWN AND ITS TITLE EVEN THOUGH ITS IRRELEVANT NOW!
OH and despite it's not totally awesome reviews, and the fact it was said this show wouldn't be popular with anyone besides females at Courtney's age and place in life..I totally disagree. I am a 23 year old and it was my 28 year old boyfriend that got me into the show. He was watching it and loving it before I ever even heard of it =)
When I first saw the commericals for this show I was very hesitant, I thought "this can't be for me." and I watched a few episodes and I thought "No, this wasn't for me." But for some reason I kept watching and I'm glad I did, because the show realized that it was doing something right and moved away from the horrible premiss of a 40 year old women behaving like a 20 year old again and starting to explore the funny characthers and developing new realtionships amongst them. Right now, this is one of my favoruite shows on television, just because of the fact that it changed, they didn't stick with what they did in the beginning and they changed the charatchers to be more genuine. Now, it is amazing. My tip is to dismiss the title, perhaps skip the first 3 episodes and then you will have a good time.
okai first time i watched this show it's just a meehhh... but after a while it's start become better. it's funny and i pretty like it. people should give it a try and give them second change. it's not like TBBT or HIMYM, it has their own characteristic.
I almost did not watch this show becuase of the lo ratings here. The people who gave those low ratings probably confused this show with some other show. Why? Because this show is absolutely fantastic. Two words - Courtney Cox. One cannot not love her. I've seen Friends and Courtney Cox only gets better. There's a little Monica Gellar in her character and that makes her even more fantastic. On to the characters:
Jules Cobb is perfect. Period. Her best friend,Ellie (Christa Miller) is definitely the best character on the show. Her bond to Jules and she understands is fantastic. She is a very different character and all her actions are highly entertaining.
Grayson also emerges as a terrific character, and does justice. Laurie (Busy Phillips) is fun, weird and quirky. Her arguments with Ellie make a solid reason to watch this show. Bobby and Ellie's husband are hilarious.
The Verdict : Do not miss this show. The comedy is fantastic and not lame or even repetitive. Again, Courtney Cox. THe rlationships between all the characters are so beautifully written that it makes you want to hug them.A change of name is need though. But this show - 10/10
Cougar Town sounds like a bad idea. It sounds as bad as I Hate My Teenage Daughter or How to Be a Gentleman, yet, unlike both of those, Cougar Town is actually really good when it pulls away from the 'cougar' aspect and focuses more on life as a single older women trying to be comfortable in her own life.
This show is best described as 'light-hearted' because, well, it's fun. The cast of characters all interact really well, and a majority of the ideas on the show feel refreshing (like Penny Can)! Honestly, it reminds me of friends in that every character does their own thing like normal, has their own flaws and motivations and these plausibly drive events.
Anyhow, I just want to say that if Cougar Town isn't highly rated, it's because of people who don't make an effort like the characters, or they just don't like the change between seasons, when the show was having an identity crisis of sorts because it, like the viewers, realized it really wasn't the Cougar Town it began as.
When i first started watching this show i had my doubts about how long its gonna last and its true that its definately not the best show ever but i agree with everyone else saying it grows on you. After watching a few episodes from season 2,i came close to quiting it but am glad i gave it a second chance cause now its became very pleasant to watch.Courtney Cox is always amazing and the jokes keep getting better and better.I really hope season 3 keeps up the good work.
Season 1 was great but it seemed that all the jokes got old in Season 2. There are great actors in this show and I had lots of laughs in Season 1, but things seemed to fizzle out in Season 2. The story lines got old, the characters lost their pizazz. I found that I was forcing myself to watch the show. But each weeks the laughs got less and less until I stopped watching it in October. I guess there are some shows that get a great start but can't keep it up. Cougar Town is one of them.
I keep watching this show mainly for two reasons: Bobby and Lauren, but even if they are lovely, I don't think I'll keep watching. Cougar Town ticks me off more than it makes me laugh - and there's so many MUCH better shows out there!
I keep watching this show mainly for two reasons: Bobby and Lauren. While Andy is adorkable, Grayson is easy on the eye and Ellie is good for the occasional laugh - I just can NOT stand Jules. She is neurotic, mean, self centered, has an EXTREMELY unhealthy relation to her son aaaand she is absolutely and utterly unlikable so I have no clue as to why any of the characters in this show would even speak to her (sxcept perhaps her son, who pretty much has to... even if I'm pretty sure he could get a restraining order going for him there...)!
I also do not appreciate the rudeness and crudeness of the humour sometimes. I do not find alcoholism funny and I don't think being mean is hilarious - which makes about 75% of the jokes fall flat. The rest of them? Well, that's where Bobby, Andy and Lauren comes in.
Honestly, though: I don't think I'll keep watching. It ticks me off more than it makes me laugh and both Busy Phillips and Brian Van Holt have done so much more, so much better stuff. I think I'll keep to them...!
This show is really good, its not what you would expect from a show called "Cougar Town" but it was definitely worth my time and really made me laugh, (some episodes more than others). A few of the episodes were a little sad for a sitcom but it really felt like reality unlike other shows were the characters were not relatable. My taste of Television shows is not the same as most of the other viewers so I find very often that my favorite shows would get cut. I am very very pleased that finally there are enough other people that watch this show to keep it a float. I must not be crazy after all.
I tried to like this series, I really did. Sure, I almost stopped watching in the middle of the pilot, but I gave it another go and made it through to the second season. But, unfortunately it just doesn't get any better.
I know it's probably unfair to compare Cougar Town to Scrubs, but since the series share a creator and some techniques and styles are reused in Cougar Town, I'm afraid its inevitable.
The series' biggest problem is that its a pure comedy, that just isn't all that funny. While Scrubs was a collection of funny, multifaceted characters in a serious setting, Cougar Town is a collection of idiots in a neutral setting.
This made Scrubs not only funny, but emotionally engrossing and thought provoking. In Cougar Town most of the jokes fall flat and the moments when they do try to add a little seriousness it falls even flatter. Which brings us to the second problem that might actually be the reason the series is not funny in the first place. The characters.
Scrubs and Cougar Town actually start the same way, the main characters looking in the mirror. But while J.D. managed to become a real, interesting person in a few seconds, Jules only becomes an unfunny stereotype. And seriously, if you want to cast a forty year old woman insecure about her looks, don't choose someone like Courtney Cox where the worst you can find is a bit of skinflap on her elbows. The character she played in Friends was of course a bit neurotic as well, but that wasn't all there was to Monica. Jules, on the other hand, only has her neurosis and her looks, nothing else.
Perhaps this could be overlooked if the surrounding cast was not just as neurotic, as one-sided and most unforgivable of all; boring and unengaging. The will-they-won't-they, for example, which is one of the most powerful tools in a lot of series simply doesn't work here because who cares if Jules and Greyson get together? They're both fundamentally unlikeable.
Which brings up another problem, the dialogue. It works sometimes. Sometimes you actually laugh, but a lot of the time its as one-dimensional as the characters. And one interesting thing, how is it that, despite a veteran cast of actors and actresses, so many of the lines feel exactly like what they are: lines? I feel especially sorry for Christa Miller and Courtney Cox that deserved better than this.
Anyway, if you've got nothing better to do you can watch it, but don't for one second believe you are going to see the next Scrubs.
When I saw the previews, which they always show the best clips on, it looked semi interesting and made me curious to check the show out. I enjoyed Courtney Cox's acting in Friends so I thought that I would check this show out. Unfortunately, the time I spent watching this show could have been better used doing anything else but watching this show. I'm sad to say that I didn't enjoy one minute of the show and I most certainly don't ever plan on watching another episode. I do, however, hope that they remove this show and put something better on its time slot.
