  • Blah...

Let me break down this story. Jules has two friends, Ellie and Laurie. Jules has hazelnut coffee, Ellie hates hazelnut coffee. Laurie has bouncy boobs, Jules wants Laurie to put on a better bra. Laurie cant take her bra off as it has 40 hooks on it. Laurie wants to impress Jules by making a sale, and she fails miserably because she gets punched by a female soldier from Afghanistan.

Jules dates Josh. Josh wants to kiss Jules in public. Josh uses too much of tongue and Jules asks him to practice on an apple. Bobby is Jules' ex husband and he is a loser. Grayson is Jules' neighbor and some abstractly stupid term called 'paper buddy'. Jules wants Grayson to bond with Bobby by playing golf with him. Grayson beats his record and Bobby is sad. Travis is Jules' son and I have no idea why he's on the show, other than show up at random places.

In the end, they all eat waffles, drink cosmo, and close the show. Now this is a TV show, bite me!!moreless
  • Simply horrible.

Okay, the first four reviews for this show I really stuck up for it and tried my best to defend this program, but this was inexcusable. I would rather watch paint dry than watch this episode again. It was just so bad and had me thinking, what part of tonight's episode was supposed to be funny? I am not trying to make a point, I really want an answer to that question, it's not rhetorical.

Come on Cougar Town, you can do so much better than this. You have a comedy icon (sort of), the kid from Aliens in America; this was just inexcusable.moreless
  • Jules decides to give Laurie some more responsibility so she can spend time with Josh. Jules gets Grayson to play golf with Bobby to get him to expand his social horizons. Grayson beats Bobby's course record so Bobby becomes depressed.moreless

Well I'm seeing some really low ratings for this program in general. I am not sure what most people are watching or what they think or expect when they are watching. Ratings on this show are a solid 3.0 18-49 and are pulling 7+ million viewers per episode and it hasn't experienced much of a drop off since it first came on TV about a month ago. Now we can say TV has gotten really bad or we can see this as being one of the four or five best shows on Wednesday nights. Whatever way you want to spin it the 3.0 gives it CSI: NY, and Glee type numbers for the night! Not bad.

This show reminds me of Two and a Half Men in general. It has the same kind of humor only with Courtney Cox's flavor instead of Charlie Sheen. Men gets slaughtered regularly by the ratings system but still is along with The Big Bang Theory the most popular comedy on TV. It is suppose to be silly, sexy, and tongue in cheek. If you are looking for something else, don't watch it! It is good old harmless funny humor. Examples:

The whole bit with the apple, the Cosmopolitans between the boys at the end, the bit with the bra, the coffee and the fact her friend would rather come over and complain about hers than make her own, Cox's affectations in general, etc.. None of this is rocket science, just good old fashion entertainment.

Are there no stupid bits? Of course there are and if you don't like Cox you aren't going to like this show. How many shows are perfect? This is just entertaining TV and a show to watch when you don't want to worry about the troubles of the day. By the way, along with Modern Family this show will get a renewal for next season. ABC finally has a few comedies that are going to stick around for a while. Just enjoy it! Thanks for reading...moreless
  • For me, it's official: Cougars are not funny.

I took a little break from Cougar Town because I was finding myself less and less interested in the ongoings of 40-something year old cougars. Courtney Cox impressed me a little in the pilot, but ever since then, it's been a trainwreck. And coming back to this show with this episode, it reminded me how there is so little to redeem the show from its bad qualities.

It was just more of the same with this episode, focusing on Grayson and Bobby trying to hang out more often and Jules trying to work up the courage to publically kiss Josh. Oh, and Jules' friend, the crazy one, gets in a fight with a woman soldier.

The problem with the show is that I don't care about any of these people. The only time I somewhat laugh is when Travis is on screen, responding to some awful thing he's watching his mom or dad do. And he's not really on the show that much compared to Courtney Cox. At times, in fact, it feels like the show is tailored towards a laugh track crowd. What I mean by that is it feels like the jokes should be followed by a laugh track.. There's a clear difference between comedy shows that just let the jokes flow and arise from the situation and shows that tell jokes simply to tell jokes. Cougar Town is borderline telling jokes to tell jokes, and it's getting old.

I'll probably watch this until the winter hiatus, but after that, I have a feeling this show will be falling by the wayside.moreless
  • Only a slight improvement over the horror that was last week.

This show is going nowhere and fast, in my opinion, and each episode was getting increasingly more terrible. This one, however, was a little improvement over last week, which was very pleasant to see, in my opinion.

I thought tht the storyline was quite good, but this was only a slight improvement over what we have seen so far.

The episode was once again not funny at all, and I thought that this show really needs to be more funny, if it is to improve.

I would not recommend this episode, or this show, for that matter, but it's certainly an improvement over last week.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (1)

    • On the golf course, Bobby would appear to be ambidextrous. On the tee, he hit his shot left handed but later in the episode he hit a shot right handed.

  • QUOTES (6)

    • Bobby: There he is! Grayson, the son of gray. Mind if I call you G-man?
      Grayson: I do. Very much.

    • Grayson: The only time I ever spoke to your wife she told me she would, and I quote, pay someone to do me prison style if I didn't bring my trashcans in.
      Andy: So we're cool.
Grayson: I am, but you're married to a scary person.

    • Travis: Hey mom look what Donny drew. He mostly draws snakes doing horrible things to women, though this one looks consensual.
Jules: She does't look happy, Travis.

    • Ellie: If you don't stop with the hazelnut, I'm gonna make my own coffee.
      Jules: No you won't.
Elie: You're right, even saying it was too much work.

    • Jules: (With her shirt up) Hey Trav!
Travis: Shirt down, then hey Trav
Jules: (Pulls down shirt) Hey Trav!
Travis: Too, late scarred for life
Jules: These used to feed you!

    • Ellie: (About Josh) He kisses with a perfect seal around you mouth like he's trying to suck your brains out.
Jules: I know, but he's gotten so much better.
      Ellie: That's better?
Josh: I'm gonna get us some more drinks.

Andy employs the same tactics used in the 1980 movie Caddyshack to distract Grayson from his putt.
