Everybody Wants to Direct:
Benton Tarentella and Erin Von Volkheim are two dead jailed movie directors who shoot a fake movie in order to eat Muriel. • "Queen of the Black Puddle" had too many things wrong with it, while "Everyone wants to direct" was perfect.

    8.5
This episode is overall hard to rate because I dislike "Queen of the Black Puddle", but I love "Everyone wants to Direct". "Queen of the Black Puddle" was very silly. How can a puddle have such a sea looking world in it? There was a castle, a scuba diver, a sunken ship, and bones, and it all fit in one small puddle. I know the show is silly and non-realistic but this is just the weirdest episode ever. There were other things wrong with it but I don't know how to explain the problems. On the other Hand, "Everyone Wants to Direct" was excellent. It had a great plot and it was creepy. My only problem with this episode was that the zombies went away just because the script no longer said to eat the old lady. Who cares? They could have ate her anyway!! I accept the fact that they went away because I guess that is the only way that the writers thought that Courage could get rid of them. Other than that "Everyone wants to Direct" was solid and fully had my attention all the way through. I might be rating this episode a little higher than it should be rated but I love this tv show so I am being generous.moreless
  • Very niiice...

    9.9
I am a huge fan of Courage, and I have been since it first came on TV...in fact, I'm still trying to think of a way to get Cartoon Network to put it on DVD...in Queen of the Black Puddle, an odd black puddle appears (what did you expect) and the queen comes and seduces Eustace, only to attempt to eat him, but, like always Courage saves the day.Pretty average...Not my favorite episode, but the next one really saved it from being mediocre (in my opinion) In Everyone Wants to Direct, the zombie of Quenton Taranteller (or Tarantino...) comes to the home of Courage, and talks Muriel into letting him shoot a "movie" at their home...why nobody notices that he's a zombie is beyond me, he convinces Eustace basically by promising him more and more money...a little ways into the episode, Taranteller resurrects his former partner, Eric Von Volcheim. So they attempt to eat Muriel, and Courage saves her by re-writing their script...and doing a lousy job...overall, a good episode...I would've given it a 10 if I had liked the Queen of the Black Puddle episode a little better.moreless

    Queen of the Black Puddle:

A Queen who lives in a puddle in the yard of the farm rises up out of the puddle. Eustace sees this Queen and decides to follow the hot chick. Little does he know that she is bad and plans to eat him. She drags him into the puddle, and Courage follows to save Eustace. She lives in a castle, which is where she plans to eat him. Courage saves him and gets out of the puddle as they just miss being captured.

    Everybody Wants to Direct:

Benton Tarentella and Erin Von Volkheim are two dead jailed movie directors who plan to capture Muriel and eat her. Eustace loves this idea of being in a movie for the money, while Muriel loves to be on camera. Courage hates the idea. Eustace eventually locks Courage up in a trunk because he kept trying to stop this real movie from happening. Courage finds the script in the trunk and rewrites it so Muriel gets saved. Then, Benton and Erin get in a fight and claim to never work together again, giving up on their realistic movie idea and to bury themselves back where they've always been buried: under the Bagge's basement! Everything goes back to normal. good episode.moreless

Both of these episodes was good! My favorite episode was Everyone Wants To Direct. Such a good episode! I love this episode because the two dead guys was so scary!! Like there faces was peeling off and it just made me scared to death. Yet another good episode of Courage The Cowardly Dog!
  • I wish my computer could sing.....

    9.1
This was an excellent episode. My favourite part is when Courage is looking for Benton's name on the computer and the computer didn't really cooperate......my computer is like that sometimes. Eventually the screen turned pink and....never mind. Also the Black Puddle Queen was sooo cool even if she's evil, and she's one of my favourtie villans behind the snowman and the Chicken From Outer Space.

    Mmmmm.....Chicken.

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (7)

    • In "Queen of the Black Puddle," Courage says the puddle's getting smaller. How does he know it's not evaporating?

    • In "Queen of the Black Puddle," Courage states that the puddle he's about to enter is getting smaller, but really it doesn't look like it's changing size at all.

    • In Courage's world, the planet Mars apparently comes directly between the Earth and the Moon on certain nights, as shown by the planetary alignment in "Everyone Wants to Direct." In real life, Mars never appears from Earth as anything larger than a red star.

    • In "Queen of the Black Puddle," The Black Puddle Queen came up to the bedroom to get Eustace. The doorknob was on her right. But in the next scene, the knob is on the right inside the door, which doesn't make sense! Then, when The Queen turned into water the knob was on her left, which makes sense.

    • In "Everyone Wants to Direct," The Computer said that Eril Von Volkheim was buried in a cemetary that the farmhouse was built over. But in "Windmill Vandals," The Computer said that the windmill was built 250 years ago by the first owner of the farmhouse. It's also obvious that the house is at least that old. It's also obvious that Eril was buried recently, since they were posing as movie directors when they were alive, and movies didn't exist 250 years ago.

    • In "Queen of the Black Puddle," Courage looks out the window of the bedroom when Eustace is taken by The Black Puddle Queen. But he is shown looking out of the attic window, not the bedroom one. And to prevent a response, when Courage turned around, he was in the bedroom, not the attic.

    • In "Everyone Wants to Direct," Courage is searching on The Computer for info on Benton Tarentella. But when he says, "Just keep checking!" his mouth doesn't move.

  • QUOTES (4)

  • NOTES (7)

  • ALLUSIONS (3)

    • The Queen of the Black Puddle
The Queen of the Black Puddle is very similar to the Siren's in Greek mythology. They look like attractive women and they eat the poor sailors, who can't resist their temptation.

    • Von Volkheim: Name
Von Volkheim's name is based on silent-film actor, Erich von Stroheim.

    • Parody: Name
Benton Tarentella is a clear parody and reference to Quentin Tarantino, the famous movie director.
