Spike wakes up and discovers that he has only been shot with a tranquilizer. He slowly rises and continues his search for Julia. In Gren's apartment, Faye has been handcuffed by her host as he tells her the story of the one man he truly admired: Vicious.moreless
  • This, and the first part, are by far superior episodes in the series, as well as being two of my personal favorites.

    "Perfect"
Let me just start off by mentioning my bias here. I love when an anime has an episode or so that goes the way of Christmas and snow/winter settings. The ambiance in an episode like that, if done right, becomes an instant favorite for me. Also, I'm kinda reviewing both this episode and the first part, Jupiter Jazz I".

Now that that's said and done, this episode is still amazing even if you take away the snowy environment. I love the fact that Spike and Faye are on the same planet, without knowing the other is there, and get involved with the same people. Speaking of which, the new characters introduced here are very interesting. I also enjoy how Jet, once again, gets a major headache waiting for the two to come home. These two episodes are funny, but they are mostly serious. Regardless of the type you like to watch, these two are immensely enjoyable.

In addition to the story and the setting the music in these episodes is outstanding. Yes, Yoko Kanno does a great job in all of the episodes, but the jazz playing and the whole Christmas type music, especially at the end of Part 1, is so marvelous. It definitely helps set the stage for my favorite type of episode. These two are a must watch of the series!moreless

  • TRIVIA (1)

    ADD TRIVIA
    • On the German official dvd release, as Spike wakes up after being shot, he says "this kevlar inner fodder is just worth gold!", so you get the impression he was shot by a real gun and the jacket saved him.

  • QUOTES (8)

    ADD QUOTES
    • (coming episode) Spike: What is going on in this world? Though you're alive, darkness looms only inches away. A world where any move you make could be a dangerous mistake. So, we will step away from the mainstream and live like vagabonds and common dropouts. A psychedelic rhapsody for someone just like you. Next episode, Bohemian Rhapsody. Don't you wanna hang out and waste your life with us?

    • Vicious: There is nothing in this world to believe in.

    • Faye: Why'd you come after me? Jet: I want my money back. Faye: The ship's safe, it only had 20,000 in it you know. Jet: Is that right? Faye: Dummy.

    • Spike (awaking from dream): I'm not dead, how about that?

    • Julia: Your eyes are different colors. Spike: My left eye sees the past. Julia: Then what about your right eye?

    • Julia: Women are all liars.

    • Spike (during Spike's flashback): When this is over, I'm getting out of it, all of it. When I do, will you come with me?

    • Gren: I want to go to Titan. Spike: You can't make it in this condition. It would take too long. Gren: I'm not gonna make it anyway. Dying on my way there will be a good way to go.

  • NOTES (6)

    ADD NOTES
    • Besides the writing "COWBOY BEBOP", that appears during the break in the middle of every episode, in this episode is an acquittal. The saying is: "The work, which becomes a new genre itself, will be called.... COWBOY BEBOP"

    • English Voice Talents Melissa Charles, Michael McConnihie, Henry D. Grey, David Lucas, Wendee Lee, Mike D'Gard, Julie Maddalena, Frank Buck, David Umansky, Robbie Mathews, John Billingslea, Dave Footsman

    • Original Japanese Airdate (テレビ東京 - TV Tōkyō): May 29th, 1998. WOWOW Airdate: January 22nd, 1999.

    • The end text to this episode reads "Do you have a Comrade?" instead of the usual "See you Space Cowboy."

    • Instead of "The Real Folk Blues" playing at the conclusion of this episode, "Space Lion" plays with a credit sequence similar to that of the final episode. This is because this episode is considered the end of season 1.

    • This episode ends with the same opening quote of Jupiter Jazz part 1. Presumably, the audience is supposed to think the quote is in reference to Spike when heard the first time, but it is made clear that it is about Gren the second time it is heard.
