  • Ambience Infused Detective Story With Plutonium.

    6.5
Well, this episode trys hard to be different and layered with mystique, but it falls just a bit flat and largely unbelievable. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for diversity to mix things up, but "Femme Fatale" seems to be trying to hard against a fairly lame plot.

As the episode begins a "Body Heat" type ambience wafts over things with sepia toned visuals and beads of sweat everywhere courtesy of LV climate and broken air conditioners. Looks like a slow weekend until an oriental beauty mysteriously appears as a damsel in distress. Torello gets played as he has nothing better to do other than to drink himself into a better climate. Problem is how outlandish the plot soon becomes as the Chinese "Femme Fatale" is trying to get a glowing cylinder of weapon grade plutonium back to China. Watchable? Always as atmosphere is part of the reason one becomes "hooked" on Crime Story. A franchise builder? Hardly, this episode feels like "marking time", even pulling down the last two episodes of which the first one, "Moulin Rougue" was up there with the first season's best. The sepia toned heat cinematograhy with Torello's narration was cool, however.

All in all, I enjoy Crime Story so much I had to watch, this simply is one of the lesser episodes IMHO.moreless
