Hi Ed. I'm Lee, I run two MGG fan sites. He has quite the following! Although I have a ton of respect for Matthew and was happy to see him flex his acting muscles as a "meanie" I was never impressed with the story line. Reid is innocence. We don't have much of that in television characters now days and it is important to many people of all different age groups to have a role model like that. I would like to know however if Gube is going to get a chance to put his romantic acting skills to the test again? Reid with a girl definitely stirred a ratings explosion and chat boards caught on fire! I'm sure I can speak for a large group of his fan base in asking anything like this planned for the future?

Hi Ed and thanks for taking the time to do this. And the Hotch backstory confession made me laugh - it has given fans plenty to talk about.
I love the show - it makes a change to watch intelligent drama and great storytelling. The actors do a smashing job, but the real stars are the writers. I do have a couple of questions and I don't know if you can answer them .
Can you confirm (I hope!) that CM will NOT have the major characters getting together for unbelievable romances, eg JJ and Reid - who have nothing in common apart from working in the same place? The flirting that goes on between Garcia and Morgan is hilarious, but it would be a real shame if the show descended into a soap opera and I think many fans would stop watching.
I'm glad that the Reid drug storyline will get resolved - you guys can't hint at it and then not give any resolution! I do think it was a brave thing to do and gave the character a darker side which has shown off MGG as an actor and made Reid much more human and, perversely, more likeable. Bad things do happen to good people and giving him a darkness has been a great thing.
Will we see Jane Lynch again? She did such a good job as Diana Reid and it would be good to see her feature again in the show.
And I know it isn't your department, but it would be good if the show got more publicity in the UK.
Are we going to see more of the Gideon/Reid ......mentor/student...... father/son relationship. I loved their relationship and how it developed all throughout Season 1 but for some reason they didn't seem as close this season. I know Gideon has to let go of Reid at some point but it wouldn't hurt to show a hint here and there about how much Gideon cares about Reid.
You've all (actors too) done such a great job with the Unsubs. They have much more depth than the usual Bad Guys. Just keep doing what you have been doing & we'll be happy campers.
PS: Please, please, please, DON'T bring Frank back from the dead. I loved the character & Keith Carradine did an amazing job. But bringing him back would definitely be "jumping the shark".

I agree Lee. Reid is innocence. It's one of the things we struggled with in the storyline itself. How to keep a character's essence while throwing a huge curveball at him.
Far as another girl, I can tell you this, that was some of the most fun I ever had. I think there's going to be love in Dr. Reid's future (of some kind - maybe we'll get him a puppy). ![]()

First of all, 'CrispyA' is a pretty cool screenname. ![]()
I've said many times that I just can't see any of these people jumping into bed together and that hasn't changed. They're too much like a family to me and spend far too much in a pressure cooker together to entangle this important job that way. That said, however, JJ and Reid were pretty cute together. We do plan on adding a little sex though if we can, just not within the team.
Yeah -- I'm glad we got to show some of Goob's skills off. LOVE Jane Lynch. We could not have chosen a better mother for Reid. If schedules and all work out, definitely count on seeing her again.
And finally, I'll point the lack of pub there out to Simon and see if he can't make some calls. He must know someone there.

Thanks again, Ed. And congrats on your new role with the network - it sounds like a great opportunity, but I hope it doesn't take you too far away from Criminal Minds. This season saw a lot of changes in the team dynamics. You dropped the Emily Prentiss character into the team so unexpectedly - it felt like that to the fans, too. Did you expect the initial negative fan reaction to Paget's character? She seemed to be slammed in the forums for quite a while. And now, just when fans have decided they were wrong, Emily's in the middle of this huge political powerplay! Sly of you, but how is Paget taking it?
Hey Fin --
Thanks for the congrats. I actually have the same role, though, just extended some and adding more duties. CM's where my heart is and the rest of the writers are still there so nothing's really going to change.
I wouldn't say this season saw a lot of changes dynamics-wise. We lost Elle and gained Emily. And we weren't at all surprised by some fans initial negative reaction. Lola Glaudini deservedly had a lot fans, and people generally don't like change in any form. What Prentiss allowed us to do though, was explore the other characters in a bit of a different light. We were able (subtly) to use this new character's lack of familiarity with the team members to highlight things about them we wanted the audience to know, without having to manufacture exposition from a character who should already know them. Does that make any sense? For example, if we wanted to talk about Morgan, we could have Prentiss genuinely not know that much about him and have it explained to her, thereby explaining to the audience. This is the same reason why Prentiss is the perfect character to have in the middle of the maelstrom for next season.
That's Prentiss, Paget is a great actor and seems excited about anything we throw her way.

Good post. We did do some of it this year (as well as with Hotch/Reid and Morgan/Reid). It's kind of a razor's edge though. The more that Reid experiences, the harder it is to expect him to need mentoring. As far as gideon caring about him, we definitely keep that in the front of their relationship and will continue to.

Hmmm... I've been pondering this for a while and it suddenly occured to me: How do we know this is really DianeGrl asking if it's really Ed??? ![]()
Truly, I guess there's no way for me to prove it in a post but your moderator/editor has been in touch with my assistant all week setting this up (Phyllis is pretty great, by the way) and I'm not sure what benefit I would get from pretending to be me and answering the questions so, I guess we'll have to trust each other for now. Fair enough?

Will do.
And you can't be saying 'jumping the shark' already. It's only the third season!!!!

Could you tell us what the teams official titles are, there has been some debate about this, with different sites saying different things. The offical CBS site only refers to them all as agent.
Oops -- almost missed this one. To be in the BAU, you have to be an SSA (Supervisory Special Agent). They are all SSA's with the exception of JJ, who is an Agent, Garcia, who is Technician, and Hotch, who is an SAIC (Special Agent in Charge).

Didn't mean to imply CM is anywhere near that point. It's just there was a ton of speculation on some of the other threads about is-he-or-isn't-he dead. So many shows have the never-ending nemesis, and none of us want that. I love Carradine, but the only I can see Frank comoing back is in a jail infirmary missing several ribs & a couple of limbs!!! Poor Gideon's had to put up with enough from that creep.
A psycho in a wheelchair. That's not too werid... ![]()

Hi! ![]()
I noticed that, towards the end of this season you changed somewhat the "structure" of the episodes, so to say (bear with me, I'm not a native English speaker), giving more screen time to the victim of the week. Is that a deliberate change? I find it interesting, but I also miss a bit more of actual profiling and green screen scenes (they've been almost nonexistent of late).
And, lastly, this is more a petition than an actual question... Next season, could you please (I'm begging you here) avoid that henious hairchopping from the beginning of season 2? No wonder Elle went postal after that haircut...

This is very interesting. Will Prentiss be receiving a promotion in third season? I only ask because her ID badge (clearly visible in several episodes) for second season reads "SA" (Special Agent) not "SSA"--and all the other agents' badges have SSA, with the exception of JJ's and I can't see the props department making that kind of mistake over multiple eps. As well, isn't Hotch a Unit Chief, not an SAC? I'd assume if he were an SAC, then his badge would say that instead of SSA; I'm not sure on this as I have limited familiarity with the FBI command structure.

Prentiss badge in some of the episodes does say SA, I think that was what caused a lot of the discussion. Also I think someone said that JJs badge in at least one episode said SSA but i can't say I've ever noticed that.
About the publicity in the UK, I'd say livingtv are doing a really good job with CM. They have a brilliant website with interviews they went over and did themselves and the show airs 4 times a week with quite a lot of advertising. Channel 5 as our second air channel are not so good, well rubbish would be a more accurate word!
Livingtv have got F&L scheduled to air before the big Game, IF this is correct it presumably means we get the original version, do you think this can work? I'm trying to imagine the Reid storyline without the scene in the bathroom and without the conversation with Morgan on the plane and I can't see it working as-well because that's the only time you actually see Reid with the drugs.
And your right we are very lucky with our editor, she's a keeper!
