Average episode but the plot was too easy to guess from the onset.

The Doctor storyline had an obvious ending, and the concept of a homeless community just seemed too over the top for me. Okay at best.

As the so-called "Reid-centric episode for this season I was looking forward to this but was a bit disappointed for a number of reasons. First up it was pretty slow paced and it was obvious from the get go who the unsub was. There was pretty much no suspense, no edge of the seat excitement.

Next up were the references to Reid's mom. Here was another example of the showrunner trying to make this show all happy, Disney, twinkly, family nonsense. It was ridiculous that Reid did not know where his mom was - as her guardian they would have had to get his permission to take her on a trip. One of the great defining things about Reid was his delicate and complex relationship with his mother and how the angst and guilt over having her committed affected him. The way they showed them in this episode just rang so untrue to everything we know about them from the past. Silly postcards from the Grand Canyon? Diana would never have done that whatever her state of mind. Nor would Reid have talked like that with JJ and Garcia at the end of the show. Wrong and again we are given a very juvenile ending to the episode.

Then of course we had another bucket load of JJ. It is completely ridiculous how much she is in every episode - we need to see more Hotch, Rossi and Blake who at least have solid and believable characters. I know Thomas Gibson was probably in post production for the episode he directed but the others could have played a bigger part instead of yet more JJ.

So a lack of suspense, far too much JJ, not enough Blake and Rossi, the ruining of the Reid/Diana relationship and an obvious unsub. The only saving grace for this was at least plenty of Reid, and a fairly grown up Reid who was allowed to do more than spout statistics. I love the Reid character but I feel that under Erica Messer's management he has been diminished. Here was the chance to give us a brilliant episode featuring Reid and it turned out a bit meh. Don't get me wrong, I can watch and enjoy Reid just standing in an ofice but it was a bit disappointing that this was pretty underwhelming. The marks I award are purely for the decent amount of Reid time and not for the writing.moreless
