  • While struggling with a bad migrane, Grissom investigates the disappearance of two young boys. In an effort to find the boys Grissom seeks help from a convicted sex offender who was found outside his burning house at the time of the disappearance.

"Burn Out" is another great episode of CSI. Great performances and very well written and believable script. William Petersen gives one of the best performances ever on the show as he works with, and eventually turns the tables on the sex offender. I was hooked all the way through and the suspense just did not let up. However there were times in the episode where I felt like I was watching The Silence of the Lambs. Specifically when Grissom first started consulting with Fisher trying to get information on the whereabouts of the boys. However, it's still worth it.

  • It was a very intense episode with Grissom. I thought it was very well done. Another good episode where the whole team ends up working together.

I thought this was a very good episode. The exploration into what a pedophile would do when taking kids was ummm...I don't quite know how to put it maybe was new. Scary too. The scenes with Grissom and Carl Fisher were intense. The guy describing these things and Gil listening and knowing this guy had something to do with the missing kids. While I love GSR moments I wasn't real upset or angry that there weren't really in this episode. Because this episode was more about finding these kids and the job starting to take a sort of toll on Grissom. Though when Sara said she was the one who turned on the music it was very nice lack of words from Grissom. Who of course had just been reprimanding Greg. Anyway, I thought this episode was very well done.
  • goooood episode!

this is episode was one of my favorites this season, since i really havent enjoyed all the episodes. this one was twisting and exciting and... just interesting over all. I didnt think Carl did it, i thought he was jut going to help them out i was sorta disappointed but also he didnt really bring the kids to him, Lucas kinda came to him. I felt sorry for him even though he is a pedafile. I am not a spoiler freak for CSI because i like to be suprised. But i did miss Catherine in this episode, was she even in it at all... because i think i may have only seen her one time. I want more things with the Grissom and Sara relationship, but i also dont want it to take over the show, which is apparent that it wont. Also i dont like Grissom when he has headaches he is out of character and in a bad mood.

    GOOD EPISODE THOUGH
  • Sad, a little disturbing, a great episode, almost no GSR. A bit confusing, but enjoyable.

The only problem with this episode was that there was barely any GSR. Pffft. I was expecting more out of this one. It was very good, however, so I must rate it highly. I made a few comments in the duration of the show (mostly putting my own version of GSR into the episode), but I got comments from my dad about how I should never run away or talk to pedophiles. Because I do that all the time *rolls eyes, note sarcasm*

I thought that Brass was a bit jerky this episode. I know he's always pretty stubborn, but is he always so mean? I never really noticed it before. And how come Sara and Catherine only had about six lines, combined? I don't think that's very fair. ...to me, because I like them both.

I did like a few of the lines. 'Nice work gashopper' is one that comes to mind. I was laughing for quite some time with that... I really liked it, although from this review it may sound like I didn't. I tend to complain a lot, so you'll have to get used to that. This was an excellent episode, and I hope the next one is just as good (with a little added GSR :D )
  • A little creepy, a little sad, definitely a good episode.

First off I really hate repeats - so glad we had a new episode this week. I often think it would be better if you spent half the year filming the episodes and the other half the year airing them. Than you could have 26 new episodes in a row of one show, and then you would have 26 episodes of another show - and then go back to show A, repeat. Ok, enough randomness back to the episode.

Loved Grissom's interaction with Carl. I actually started to believe the boys' being missing was because of something that the mom/grandfather/one of the dads did . . . how does a writer make you actually like the pedophile, well not like, um, not quite understand, well at least not hate him before he is revealed as the killer? And then he unravelled right before our eyes. Poor Grissom and his migraine - I think they are starting to set him up for the fall, the "personal issues" that he needs to deal with to explain his four episode absence. He was kind of hard on Greg, with the music. It was funny to watch Greg look back and forth between Grissom and Sara as they talked. Sara telling him to be nice to Greg. You can see how long they have been together, how comfortable she is with him now. I have to say. I totally agree with Grissom, circa Season 1, that the people who pray on children on really the worst criminals out there. Carl actually thought he was helping Lucas? Helping him how? By giving him pizza, aspirin and alcohol? By not taking him back home or to a hospital? That scene where Carl compared seducing a woman to seducing a young boy, creepy, really, really creepy. Oh, look, Sara was processing another car. I noticed both she and Greg had the masks around their necks. Also, they tried to get everyone they could into that scene at the arson wearing the blue coveralls. Just some random details. Next week looks good - back to the miniature crime scenes.
  • A pedofile is found outside his apartment complex at the same time an amber alert has been sent into the city of Las Vegas. Two boys are missing. Grissom thinks that the pedofile had something to do with it. In the end, he did.

This was a very boring episode. It was all talk. Pedofile episodes have been done. It\'\'s not a very new topic. CSI is usually on top of the cutting edge of ideas. Half of the show was Grissom talking to the pedofile about nothing really. There\\\'s was nothing suspenseful. I knew the guy in the begining was the killer in the beginning. I was hoping there would be some kind of twist but it never happened. Just ended up being the same guy I thought. Usually CSI has some kind of cool twist or some action to keep the watcher involved. I hope things get better here or I\\\'m going to watch the dreadful NY or Miami.
  • I truly loved this episode.

This show truly encapsulated why I love CSI. Getting into the head of a criminal can be very disturbing. It's always interesting to see the inner workings of a criminals mind, though it can also be very intense. To see how a child molester thinks, how to him what he does seems normal, and how he views the world. I felt really sorry for Grissom. Having to deal with this kind of situation, when we know how cases involving children effect him, to than have to deal with a migraine also would have tried anyone's patience. This was a very good episode.
  • Interesting episode. I never saw it coming.

I think my CSI-guessing skills are getting worse. This is the second episode in a row where I have been unable to guess the killer until a few minutes before it is revealed. XD

Great episode. I thought using Carl to help find the kids was interesting, although he didn't really help them all that much. He just kind of explained how he would sexually atract young boys, and then he gave a speech to Grissom on how he would woo a lady (which I found hysterical, by the way. "He's getting laid on a regular basis, he doesn't need your advice!" lmao)

I was glad that one of the boys was alive in the end. It just made it so much better. And that was some great foreshadowing at the end; Grissom seemingly getting tired of his job. Meh.

Loved the GSR. "I'm the one who turned the music on." "*starestare*" lol And then when Sara was like "You could be nicer to Greg." Poor Greggo. Never gets any slack.

Plus, Nick called Superdave "Super.". That made my night. lol
  • Two boys are missing and its up to a child molester to help solve the case

Normally I can take all the blood gore and guts CSI has to throw at me, but tonight\'s episode was downright depressing. It was so sad, and I was surprised at the way it turned out. I\'m sure it\'s been done before, but I do not remember another episode where a child has died before. Plus there was that whole twist with the child molester who claimed to be helping the team, but really was the one who did it, the story line was well thought out and well written, and I thought it was interesting how it started out at the end, with Grissom lying down in his office, and then it went into the story. No complaints about this one.
  • Two kids have gone missing and Grissom interrogates a possible suspect.

    9.0
    "Superb"
Probably, this was the first time that I knew who was the suspect and hoped the suspect actually didn't commit any crimes. Alan Tudyk played the possible suspect, a former pedophile. I think he did a great job of portraying a man who agonized over his past and what he'd done because of that past when the team found out everything. (When Grissom asked him why he didn't take the kid to the hospital, who got injured from the grandfather's pushing, he said he was afraid of being arrested again. But, I think that there would've been no problem even if he had taken the kid to the hospital. Maybe, Grissom was right. He said he loved the kid, but he didn't love him in the right way and made a wrong decision, which he's never going to be able to take back.) Anyway, one thing is clear. His acting was ineffably great!

It was funny when Grissom was about to scold Greg for turning the music loud and shut himself up when Sara told him she was the one who did it. Poor Greg.. Looks like now Grissom decided to show his feelings for Sara openly.
  • Time is running out when two boys go missing and the pedophile is playing games with Grissom...

    9.1
    "Superb"
Grissom is going through a tough time when two boys are missing and they have limited time to figure out what happened to them. Things get more difficult when there is a pedophile in the neighborhood where the boys were last seen. Grissom interrogates the pedophile and when he says that he did nothing to the boys, Grissom asks him what he would have done if he was in the kidnappers place. Another hint that Grissom and Sara have become an item, is when an angry Grissom reprimands Greg for his loud music and Sara telling him that it was her music, Grissom quickly changed the subject. It's always interesting to watch the episodes where the bad guys proves to be a challenge to Grissom..
  • I always love it when someone tries to tell Gil Grissom that they know what he's thinking. No one ever knows what Gil is thinking, especially in this episode.

    10
    "Perfect"
Seems to me like Gil's feelin' a bit tired of it all right now. We all get to that point once in a while. You know, where you sit in your drab gray cube, squinting at the computer more and more as the day gets long. And then suddenly you just lose it, and everything sort of jumbles. We all need some time to clear our head now and again. Having Grissom clearly not all together right now is a clever way for the producers to write in his imminent hiatus from the show. As for the rest of the episode, there wasn't a whole lot of captivating material, though Grissom's reaction to Brass when he told Carl, "Bad things happen to bad people," was interesting. We all know Grissom is a big fan of letting the evidence do the talking, and he really seemed like he wanted to give the guy a legit shot to prove he was innocent without Brass' being an idiot. But who can blame the captain for acting the way he did. Brass has never been known for being overly cordial anyway. I certainly couldn't believe that Jason's football-coach grandfather could sit at the station and claim that fighting two little boys was self-defense. I know they arrested the grandfather, but they should be charging him with murder as well. He's the one that threw Lucas to the ground and caused the bleeding in his head. Carl certainly deserves the most blame here for what he did, but the grandfather deserves all of what he gets and more. That's not discipline. That's a coward.
  • Thought provoking, beautifully written and superbly acted.

    9.0
    "Superb"
Let's face it, the CSI science in this one is a bit dodgy, and the clues leading to arrest are below par. This episode is carried towards classic status by one thing, - Alan Tudyk's performance as a paedophile.

Anyone who is a parent finds it difficult to understand how anyone could want to hurt a child, or how they can justify to them selves what they do. This episode and this performance will come as close as anything ever will to explaining this. Tudyk's paedophile isn't a monster - to himself. He almost gets the audience sympathising with him. May be he has been trying to lead a "clean" life. May be he does try to help to atone for what he has done. But he can't resist the temptation when it's put in his way. He carries the dual thoughts that what he has done is wrong and that he must confess with the conviction that he was only trying to help and it all went wrong.

    Good. Very good.
  • Acting, writing, storyplotting... it's all back.

    10
    "Perfect"
I'm not often all that impressed with the guest actors that they hire on this show. Either it's a big-ish Surreal Life sort of name (Wil Wheaton and Stephen Baldwin coming to the mind first) or, like back in Season 1, it's just a random talentless person they could get cheap (the murderous Giga-Millions girlfriend, awful). Alan Tudyk, who I know something of, having seen Firefly and a couple of other things he's been in, didn't strike me as the sort of person that they'd easily be able to turn into a pedophile.

I thought they might go down the "he seems very innocent... you never know who could be a pedophile" route, what with characters like Wash coming off very childish and class-clown. However, I was incredibly impressed with his disturbing portrayal of the very intelligent former schoolteacher, and though there were some plot holes, and I didn't care for Sofia the Patron Saint of Greyhound Buses, I thought that the scenes between Fisher and Grissom deserved a 10. Just an incredibly engaging back and forth, and really showcased the talents of both actors.

When Grissom begins unravelling Fisher's story, it's like you can see him grasping to anything while Grissom pulls further away.

I'm also rarely impressed with the writing - feeling that too often they've relied on the talents of their actors to carry corny dialogue or plot holes, but even that was on mark for this episode.

    Just really impressive.
  • Not a well written story and the plotting was lousy, but guest star Alan Tudyk hooked me and I had to watch him.

    7.9
    "Good"
With a plot hole large enough to run a Humvee through, this story had so much promise and quickly sank into the realms of mediocre storytelling. They way they chose to address the problem of why the pedophile, who was not being charged, would stay when if he was connected to the missing boys, was to have Grissom mention that if the man was still hanging around, there is something he must want to tell them. I'm sorry, but that may work for the first Austin Powers sequel, but not for a procedural drama. The bright shining moments were from Alan Tudyk who was able to do the impossible - make you like a guy you know is a child molester. You hope that the sad-eyed innocence he projects is real and even though you can see where this is going, you find yourself not wanting to like him because he's a creepy predator (likening the way he gets his victims to the way a man dates a woman), but still hoping he's not the bad guy in this case. That is exceeding hard tor an actor to pull off and Alan Tudyk does it in spades. This is not anything like the goofy characters he usually plays. He needs more dramatic roles to show this terrific skill that I think few knew he had. Bravo for him - Boo to the writer.
  • Grissom attempts to solve the mystery of two missing boys despite a head-splitting migraine.

    9.1
    "Superb"
I like how the episode seemed to show that the pedophile was the perp, make it look like he's innocent, and then turn out he was the one who did the dirty deed after all.

I was also half-expecting Alan Tudyk to start singing.

One of my favorite parts in the episode was when the abusive grandfather was brought to the station in cuffs. I dislike abusive people, those who use fear and pain to get what they want out of another person. In this case, I really wanted to knock that old man's teeth in because of what he's done to his grandson.

All in all, a great episode although I must admit I somewhat felt a bit...lost, for lack of a better description. Maybe Grissom's migraine had affected me, too.
  • Grissom has a migrane, two missing boys, a pedophile, and an abusive Grandfather. An awesome installment of CSI!

    9.9
    "Superb"
This episode was so good its hard to put it in words. First off the effects which highlight Grissom's migrane were stunning. I felt that it added an effect of realism to the show. The C.S.I.'s are people too, they get migranes and illnesses just like the rest of us. The main plot line didnt go into cliche's that many programs do when it involved pediphilia. Throughout the episode, I kept trying to pinpoint the guilty party and I just couldnt. It was so well written and the ending was thought-provoking and unexpected. I also enjoyed the fact that there was a balance to the families of the victums. They were two young boys with dramatically different family scenarios and I appreciated the variation. A fine example of the perfect CSI episode.

Grissom asleep on the office couch.

There’s an ongoing case, 2 boys are missing and Brass is talking to a group of police officers, filling them in, instructing them. Grissom joins the crowd, and seems a little sick.

The boys’ names are Lucas Hanson and Jason Crowley. There is an AMBER alert out for both of them.

Grissom gets a text message: my 408 might be your 412 nick.

Turns out Nick was at the scene of an arson case. The house owner Carl is a convicted paedophile and his neighbours do not at all like him, even though he has been living good for the past 5 years – after he got out of prison.

Lucas’ mom comes to the station, she says her ex possibly took him. He has stolen the TV’s and her check book earlier. After that she took Lucas’ key so his dad wouldn’t get in the house and be alone with him, but there was an emergency key in a hiding place.

They also visit Jason’s grandfather – his dad lives away, his mother died – and he rambles on about how kids should play outside and so on. He seems a little strict but with the best of intentions.

Greg finds that the arson started with the car that was parked outside, the heat of the fire on the shoeprint in gasoline left a nice imprint in the concrete. Sarah spots expensive video games and lots of candy : The house might as well have been made out of gingerbread. The have Lucas’s dad pull over and find Jason’s baseball glove in his car.

When he hears his kid is missing he says it’s probably one of the dead beats his mom is dating. He knows he wasn’t the best guy but at least he hasn’t been in prison.

But, as Brass informs him, that can change. Lol!

Closer look at the granddad, who suddenly proves to be an abusive ex college coach who smacked both kids around, Lucas hit his head pretty hard on the floor. His son, the missing kids father is pretty mad, and rightfully so.

Then Warrick texts… 419 – child found. Lucas’ mom sees how her sons body if being prepared from transport from the golf bunker to the coroner. Poor lady.

The kids were seen buying pizza and a soda, the girl remembers the make of the car ( My boyfriend is into street….oh, er.. better not mention that to a cop … he’s into cars ).

Meanwhile Grissom indeed is not feeling too great. Headache.

Carl helps them out with the case as asked to by Brass. Explaining what he would have done had he taken the boys.

Greg found some clean gasoline inside the former-gas-tank that melted to the car floorboard, which he had tested and the results are back.

Jason is seen on a bus – the team goes check it out. And Lucas’ blood work came back, he had an alcohol level of 0.16 and there were traces of aspirin found in his bloodstream. Grissom has taken 2 paracetamol ( = acetaminophen), and I do believe his head hurts, but as long as he is still sitting upright, talking, not minding the bright(ish) light, loud noises and not puking , it is not a migraine yet …but he’d better lay down a bit. The nice convicted paedophile tells him sumatriptan also works. Brass puts Carl in a line-up, but Jason is too scared to ID him as the one that took them ( I will kill your dead threats tend to do that…).

They find he bought 2 extra gallons than what he needed to fill his car, which he took home in jerry cans. They argue a little about him trying to destroy evidence and then finally he confesses. Jason found him. He was ignored and wanted to play. He found me, I did not find him.

Backtrack to when granddad got angry. He threw Lucas against the floor, which resulted in a concussion and a bleed in his brain. The two boys ran from granddad but could not get into the house ( Lucas’ dad still had the key..). He couldn’t phone them either, so they went to Carl. Who bought them pizza, and liquor ( to calm himself and them down).

Carl says they wanted an adventure, they didn’t want to go home,

So he took them to the golf course, for every found ball they would get 1 dollar.

Lucas is not at all feeling well, headache, brain bleed. Probably confusion from both.

So he stays in the car with Carl and lays his head in his lap. As Carl explains it was “mutual love”. Unfortunately the combination of aspirin and alcohol makes the blood unable to clot, and thus the brain bleed resulted in death. When Jason saw Carl and Lucas’ body he ran and hid. Carl tries to defend and explain himself, but all Grissom has to say before he goes to try and sleep the headache off is: You made the wrong choices and now this little boy is gone.

Well written story, good to see the human side of Grissom.

So obviously the headaches that Gil is having is going to somehow lead to him being off the show for a bit. Poor Sara… I thought that this was one of the more creepy episodes that they have done in a while. The pedophile was so calm through most of the episode. What he was talking about makes so many sick and for him it’s like any other day. I hated how when he was talking to Gil it was like he wanted Gil to tell him that what he was feeling and what he had done in the past was ok. There is no way that Gil could ever do that. At first I was a little bothered at Brass. He seemed to forget that even if someone has been in jail they are still innocent until proven guilty. But as the evidence got laid out everyone knew that he was guilty. I was also glad to see Greg back in great form and bruise free. So a couple of season’s ago Nick had his bad time. And this season Cath (for three episodes) and then Greg. Next we know something happens to Gil. So what about Warrick and Sara (I don’t really count her DUI).
  • viewer-emotional episode yet.

When I saw the preview for this episode, I was really iffie about where to watch it or not becasue of it's content. Those poor boys. Those stats that sicko gave Gris weren't totally true. I get well over 20 minutes of attention from my mom everyday. The only things I liked about this episode was the interation between Greg and Hodges, the Greg scenes, that b@$t@rd getting caught, the grandpa getting put in jail for abuse, and Sara telling Grissom off for thinking Greg was playing his music again.

I noticed there was very little Warrick of Catherine in this episode. My heart totally goes out to Lucas' mom when she saw her baby at the golf course. The emotions in this episode were well played out.

What looks as though as an open and shut

Case for the team really becomes complex as the neighborhood pedohille plays mind games with Grissom as this is mainly a Grissom centered show as he does his best to play with Grissom's brain as the search for two missing and maybe abused boys is on the line for the team!
  • The only thing missing in this episode was the grandpa getting his --- kicked.

Let's run down this great episode quickly: 1) There is two boys missing: Jason, 11 and African American and Lucas, 10 and caucasian. 2) The two boys are best friends and afterschool Lucas goes over to Jason's grandfather's house. 3) The Grandfather is a jerk(puting that nicely!)and had smashed Jason's head into closet door and when Lucas tried to fight back he was thrown to the floor. 4) They have three suspects: Jason's grandfather, Lucas's father, and the neighborhood pedophile. 5) Lucas's father is ruled out because it was determined he was just going to see the his son, who he never sees and has really no motive. 6) They find Lucas dead in a sand trap(Golf)and Jason's glasses buried in a pipe but no Jason. 7) They discovered child like comics and DVD's in the supposed reformed Pedophile's house that burned down when it was set on fire along with his car. 8) They find Jason on a bus ride running away to his father, who was away on business. 9) Jason picks the pedophile out of the lineup but says he wasn't the one who committed the crime. 10) He must of been scared because it was the Pedophile!
