  • A Pretty Good Episode

I like this episode. First time i saw, i almost cried, but Grissom's feelings are revealed. A woman is found dead and she looks like Sara. Then meanwhile the CSI's are looking for evidence Grissom deals with himself and he show that he loves Sara. A very good episode....It was outstanding and full of energy, and the Grissom speech...That was the final point that makes an excellent episode..Bravo!

Okay, I was making fun above- but this episode is really sad!!!

First of all- I thought this was gonna be dull and depressing- as much I love GSR. But if you think that you're gonna get an episode full of a blubbering Grissom pouring his heart out over what could have been- think again.

The case was actually quite interesting- and the casting directors were right- Debbie Marlin does look like Sara Sidle. This episode is very character orientated- just the way I like 'em! CSI has amazing characters, and Butterflied shows them off in all their glory......

I even liked the way Catherine sort of comforted Griss! Their bond is quite unique and I adore their friendship and trust (Marg and Billy have brilliant chemistry)- but the Grissom-Sara arc is the main focus here. Griss basically has to deal with a brutally murdered vitim who takes the shape of the woman he loves- not easy I think you'll find. And at the end, William Petersen again showcases his wonderful acting talents in a speech that will leave everyone misty eyed.

Brilliantly acted + interesting and moving case= a winner!!!!
  • I love this episode...

Butterflied is one of my all time favorite episodes. I think the music for this episode is very nicely done as well as the script. I loved that Grissom had to look at his feelings for Sara in this episode. It was sad though with the conclusion he came to at the end. I couldn't figure out for the life of me who had killed Debbie Marlin when I first saw the episode until it was made clear that it was Dr. Lurie. I think Kyle Secor did a very nice job at playing his character. I also liked the twist at the end when we saw Sara standing out in the observation room looking in to the investigation room where Grissom made his confession to a complete stranger. I would imagine that it would be difficult to hear. Truly an awesome episode, I have watched it over and over again since I bought it on DVD. That is all.

Revealing. There was some good tension and the music in this episode was so excellent. I know some of you have heard my pathetic rambling about how much I love my dectectives, so there was also some good detective work in this ep, (as always)! I have heard about pulling double shifts, but Grissom pulling THREE?! That's crazy. Well, you can't blame him. He was obviously obsessed with the case. This shows everyone how deeply he cares about Sara. Lurie killed Michael Clark and Debbie out of pure rage, thinking that if he couldn't have Debbie then no one could.

Grissom pretty much explained why he can't be with Sara, but he obviously wants too, and even worse-

Sara was watching from the other side of the one-way glass.
  • With Butterflied a strong storyline is accompanied with an overall sentimental mood, starting with the very first scene with Grissom. The music and lighting fits the episode brilliantly, highlighting the very personal aspect of the case to him.

The striking resemblance of the victim to Sara makes Grissom think about the choices he's made in life as well as compare his and the murderer's situations. While he does admire Dr. Lurie for taking his chance with Debbie, he still partially thinks he's made the right choice by not getting involved with Sara.

Throughout the series Grissom has, unintentionally, been yoyoing with Sara, giving her hope when there hasn't been any. He hadn't really given her any reasons for his reluctance, apart from "I can't", and this is probably the best explanation she's ever gonna get, albeit it wasn't intended for her to hear.

It's interesting how the characters take some cases personally, for Sara it was the woman whose lifestyle reminded her of her own and made her want to change her ways, for Grissom it was a woman who reminded him of Sara, even if it was only by her looks. Unlike Sara, Grissom's reflectance on his own life didn't make him want to change it, even if he did feel he hadn't lived at all.

Overall this episode has some nice interaction between the main cast, although little of that is between Grissom and Sara. Catherine is almost playing the mother to Grissom, who's determined to get the evidence to find the killer.

    Memorable moments

-Grissom's speech to Dr. Lurie about meeting a beautiful young woman, while Sara watches behind the glass

-First scene where Grissom walks through the house

    -Greg and Papa Olaf's hydraulics

    -Sara crawling under the house

Woman found dead in the bathroom. Best friend called it in. They found male in trash can. Michael Clark was the man's name. Killer turned womans face to move a cetrain direction. Turned around so when Micheal came in he'd see it. Took time and dismember his body carefully. Found out that woman was having an affair with numbers of men. One man fell in love with her and he got jealous because she kept blowing him off and wouldn't leave her alone. She still wore bracelets that he gave her as presents. He then took the bracelet and tore it up.

Out of all six seasons of CSI this episode was the best. It had everything to keep you watching. The relationship between Grissom and Sara keeps growing. You can tell Grissom loves Sara, you can tell when he sees the dead women who looks very much like Sara and how it effects him. Also Catherine I\'m sure also knows. She\'s his partner, they\'ve worked together for years. You can also tell when she goes to the house to check up on Grissom and when she tells Sara about how much she looks like Sara. The final minutes are the best part of the episode, when Grissom basically confesses his love for Sara and she is standing behing the see through class watching. This episode is GREAT!

A very special episode for all GSR fans. Grissom admit his feelings to Sara but he couldn't take the risk to be with her. I wonder did he understand that she heard him? That's a very interesting moment, I think. After he turned her down in the end of season 3 she have lost her ... hmmm, i don't know what it is exactly... will to fight maybe. I think that he started to feel that Sarah is getting away and down. The case only make this feelings stronger. And this confession maybe was to explain her the reason for Grissom to do that. He understood that he could lose her every day, every minute and the fear makes him want people to understand him. He is not brave enough to tell her all of that, but he need at least one person to understands him..

P.S. I am not sure that makes any sense, but I couldn't explain it better in English.
  • One of my all time favorite CSI's.

I always loved this episode because of how it shows Grissom. It shows a new side of him that you have never seen before. You see that he is a man struggling to decide his priority's. Sara seems like she has a hard time with the case but just because the dead girl looked just like her. I love how you come to see how even though they may not be in a romantic realationship they still have a very important realationship. He worked so hard on that case like it was Sara's murder he was working on and in the end he still had nothing to show for it. This was one of the greatest episode's ever.
  • ummm bring on the gsr-ness! episode full of gsr, and to top it all of a great plot line

wow i love this episode it has to be one of my favorite episodes. It is full of pure GSR - ness! grissom and the team discover a body that had been found in her home. she gives great resemblence to sara. Grissom has not left the crime scene. what does that say, as much as he trys to hide that fact he loves sara! i mean why else wouldnt he have had any sleep, why else would he not have said that beautiful speech which by the way william petersen came up with but that little speech says a whole lot and not to mention that sara was right there watchin him and brass interogate dr. lurie. this is episode is very special to many but can mean nothing to few....well i am one of those people that feel special when i watch it. I love this epsode!
  • One I've been waiting for...for a long time! (Watch it if you haven't, especially if you love GSR!!!)

I just COULD NOT believe this ep! It is possibly my favorite, and ya, probably because of all the GSR in it! Yay! Well, anyways...I actually didn't realize why Gris was staring at Debbie until he walked outside and looked at Sara! (Yes, I know I'm pretty oblivious...), but it would freak me out, too. The end, of course, was my favorite part because of Grissom's whole "speech", and when Sara saw the whole thing? Wow. Overall one of the best, ok THE best. =)
  • Very sweet/ fills in some blanks

I just watched this episode... and wow. I am sooo glad Grissom has finally confessed his love for Sara, (though in a round-a-bout way). I also thought it was sweet that Grissom wouldn't let Sara near the body, because that shows he really cares for her and how she will feel. I couldn't believe, though, that Sara heard his whole speech, and I kind of wonder how she feels about that and if she understands. Hopefully the writers will resolve the GSR issue, and I hope it ends up with them together.
  • An epsisode full of GSR.

Butterflied is now my favorite episode.

A woman who looks exactly like Sara is found murdered in her shower. Grissom won't let Sara anywhere near the body & takes a personal interest in the case. He won't eat or sleep until he finds out who murdered her.

Grissom finally confesses to Dr Lurie & Brass that he loves Sara, he doesn't say it right out but when he says "Somebody young & beautiful shows up, somebody, we could care about" he's obviously talking about Sara.

We've known since the beginning of the series that they've had feelings for each other, and we know how Sara really feels about him, and finally Grissom confirms his own feelings, but he also admits that he can't risk everything he's worked for in order to have her.

The biggest shocker of all is that Sara was right there behind the glass & heard Grissom's confession.
  • Possibly my favorite episode so far.

We all know there is something between Grissom and Sara. We knew it from the 2nd episode of the entire series when she first showed up in Vegas. This episode just further cements that. The victim bears an amazing resemblance to Sara and that spooks Grissom. He empathizes with Dr. Laurie, an older man who has fallen for a younger woman and is afraid she might get tired of him and leave for a younger man. The case is amazing and I never get tired of watching this episode. Grissom's confession for his feelings when Laurie is about to walk out the door is revealing. And when the camera pans back and you see Sara's reflection in the one-way glass, you just know she heard and understood every word Grissom just said. It breaks your heart a little because you can tell how much they care for each other, but insecurities on both sides are keeping them apart. This is a rare insight into the personal lives of our favorite CSIs. I hope the writers resolve the Grissom/Sara issue before the show ends and hopefully it's with them being together.
  • A woman, with an uncanny resemblance to Sara is found dead in her shower. Through the whole episode, Grissom is having to deal with his feelings toward Sara. Sara doesn't see the body for a while until she's getting toeprints and lies about seeing it late

This is exactly the episode we\'ve needed. It\'s perfect GSR and really pulls you in. The one thing I\'m kind of wandering about is what Grissom would do if he found out Sara had heard everything he said. Besides that, it\'s one of the best character episodes they\'ve shown. More episodes like this would be perfect.

This is quite possibly my favorite episode. It was so full of GSR, that I thought my brain would explode! Every time I watch it, I can't wait to see what happens next. The butterfly has become a symbol of a romance between Grissom and Sara, and every shipper knows Grissom's confession to Dr. Lurie by heart. I can still remember the OMG look on my face when the camera pannned back, revealing Sara watching from the other side of the glass.

I just wish that there would be more moments like this on CSI.

This is a great example of why I watch CSI! It's my favorite tv show and this is why!! This had everything. The crime, the evidence and emotion. I have watched this episode I don't know how many times. We actually get to see Grissom as a human and we finally get an answer to the neverending question: Does Grissom have feelings for Sara? Yes, it was really emotional to hear Grissom share his feelings about Sara. The shocker came when we realize she heard the whole thing. There is hope and you see that in the 6th season episodes!! Nothing is impossible!

Re-watched this episode again last night and was remided exactly why CSI is my obsession. This has to be one of the all time best episodes. I almost cryed at the end. It was so cute. It was just the episode GSR (Grissom/Sara Romance) fans have been waiting for, for a long time. It was sad, from Sara's POV, to watch Grissom confess that he loves her but she wasnt worth him giving up his whole career for, it was saddening. Hopefully us GSR fans will have more fluff in the future.

We get to see a human side of Grissom in this episode *GASP*. He actually confesses his love for Sara in a round about way with his speech to Dr. Lurie. We all know that Grissom's had feelings for Sara since the very start and to see him concerned for her (he wouldn't let her see the body as it looked like her) and of course with his little speech at the end gives hope to GSR fans everywhere. Kind of creepy about chopping up the boyfriend though. If you've ever been pulling for GSR this is the episode to see. One of the best CSI episodes ever.

I LOVED this episode! It is one of my favorites of the whole series! (which is saying something considering my favorite character Nick Stokes isn't even in it!) I think having the character look like Sara was a great idea, not only did it make it more intense for the viewers, it also provided us with a look at the way Grissom really cares about Sara! I thought the part when Sara was in the autopsy room looking at the body, was really good, I kept thinking "don't look at her face, don't look" that would be SOOO creepy! My favorite part of the ep though was Grissom's speech at the end, that was INCREDIBLE!

WOW, this episode definitely lived up to all the hype. Extremely emotional, and a satisfying bite to all the GSR fans out there. The viewer can see that Grissom definitely has feelings for Sara when he treats the murder of the Sara look-a-like as if it was Sara that had been murdered. The ending speech by Grissom and seeing Sara watching him made the fangirls in all of us squeal in delight. This is such a great episode in the series, one of my favorites, and a great episode for all the GSR fans out there. Well written and very entertaining, you will sit and be sucked in the the story until the end.
  • A woman who resembles sara is found dead in the shower. Grissom reveals his feelings for sara to the suspect and to sara, who is stood behind the glass without grissom knowing.

This episode is soo cute but sad at the same time!! Its totally cute because the audience discover the true deepness of grissoms feelings towards sara and at the end he finbally admits the way he feels. However it is sad because throughout the episode grissom pushes sara away!! It is interesting to see how grissom is affected by the way the victim looks and lives just becasue there is a similiarity between her and sara. Also the episode is based on the one death and i find them episodes to be better than ones where there are two seperate cases!!
  • Another great installment.

A nurse is found dead in her house by her friend, who's also a nurse. The victim died in her spacious bathroom, posed with her head facing the door. According to the friend, she was to have dinner with her new boyfriend, Dr. Michael Clark, who works at the same hospital. Processing the crime scene reveals very little evidence because the killer has thoroughly cleaned the place and used bleached to denature any DNA. Dr. Clark, initially a prime suspect, is later found, albeit in pieces, in garbage bins behind the house. The precision of various cuts suggests that a medical personnel is the killer. Meanwhile, this case prompts Grissom to contemplate his workaholic life and whether it is worth the life he may be missing out on. This is the first episode written by David Rambo.

Personally I love this episode, well written and exciting plot. You should watch this episode and you will regret if you missed it. This episode is just perfect.
  • A murder victim reminds Gil or Sara. This causes him to reflect on his own personal feelings while busting a gut to discover the murderer.

    9.3
    "Superb"
Like this episode a lot. I prefer more of the 1 case epsiodes. So if you do also, youll like this one as there are no distractions or flittering from case to case. The sheer power of Grissom's epithany-like realisation that he has more to live for, that there are things that he is missing out on, that he wants (i.e. a partner, a life outside csi and when he retires) explodes in this epsiode. It was very interesting to see the different shreds of characterisation build up in Gil during this investigation. How the similiarity between this vic and Sara, affects him like no other before. How he doesnt want her seeing the face of the dead girl. How he is hellbent in bringing the killer to justice that he works non-stop, without food or rest breaks. The scene at the end where he literally pours part of his soul onto the interrogation room table for the accused to look at and their see each other as if looking in a mirror was powerful.

The ending was about as good as it could have been, as we see Sara standing in the hidden part of the room behind the two-way mirror, silent and unmoving, realising the very essence of what Gil has said! That he needs someone and that someone is Sara! Very powerful indeed!

And to top it off, the accused is free to walk as they dont have enough evidence to detain him.

This is one of those episodes that makes the whole season worthwhile. Afterall is it enough for the characters to go through their roles without any affect on their personalities?

I love this episode. Grissom gets so into the case that he dosent go home he just stays at the scene because he is so determined to figure out what happened. I thought it was so sweet how when sara called he was all like out of it and said he didnt need her help. When catherine asked sara if she saw her and sara said she didnt look at her face was a great scene. My favorite part had to be at the end when grissom is talking to laurie and he is comparing them together. Then you see at the end sara is watching.

I've watched this episode a few times. I love the scene where grissom is looking at the pictures on the dresser then looks in the mirror and sees the dead girl then she turns into sara. I have read post from people who say that anyone who likes gsr are crazy because there is nothing between sara and grissom. Well I say they need to open their eyes. This past few seasons have brought to light what some of us have seen all along. The spark between them. I also love the scene at the end of the episode where grissomis talking to the murder and compares himself to the guy. Its sad that grissom could open up to a murder more that he could open up to sara at the time. But I suppose they got over that didn't they. :)

I love butterflied, It is such a beautiful episode!

Wonderful acting from Billy Petersen, especially in the end. The writing is absolutely fabulous, the whole Grissom-speak has become legendary! This is one of the few episodes that actually focuses more on the characters than the forensics. Even though Griss and Sara wasn't together at this time, it's pretty obvious he cares a lot about her, he is totally obsessed with solving this case.

This is not just another body for him, he takes it rather personal. You really get the feeling that his talking directly from his heart at the end, he expresses these feelings that he never could have said to Sara in person, and with Sara standing and hearing the whole thing, a very nice twist.

What can be said about this episode other than it totally rocked. First of all the girl they got to play Sara's look alike looked so much like her I actually thought Sara had been killed when I tuned in that night. I was freaking out. Soon though you realize Debbie is a look-alike. The way Grissom gets sucked into the case because of Debbie's resemblance to Sara was groundbreaking for this show. We finally get to hear in the final moments of the episode how Grissom really feels about his life, his decisions and Sara... and then the final reveal... Sara has heard Grissom's confession to the murderer (Dr. Lurie). Petersen was amazing throughout the entire episode as was Jorja Fox and Marg Helgenberger. I loved the scenes between Cat and Grissom in the house. This ep had it all and for fans of the complex yet touchingly beautiful relationship (or non relationship) between Grissom and Sara this ep was just perfect. I remember sitting there listening to Grissom finally talking about how he feels about Sara and just going WOW. He said it, he finally said it... and Sara heard him. A+

A young nurse, Debbie (played by Erin Carter Hayes) is found with her throat slashed in her bathroom which has been wiped cleaned. Interestingly, the dead woman bears a striking resemblance to Sara which makes Grissom perplexed about the case. It turns out that the Debbie was sleeping with a doctor who was much older than she was and he found out that she was unfaithful and was sleeping with someone of her own age. At the end of the episode, there is a character development for the Grissom and Sara relationship as Sara witnessed Grissom through the interrogation room telling the Doctor that unlike him, he could not risk everything to be with someone beautiful and younger.
