  • The murder of a woman who turns out to have undergone gender reassignment surgery sparks one of the best, goriest and difficult to take episodes of the series. Brilliant stuff.

Wendy is killed, her throat slit. Doc Robbins is no fool, however, and when he discovers a prostate instead of ovaries, it soon becomes obvious that Wendy's missing brother Walter is actually also on the same slab, Walter having had surgery to become a woman.

From there we are transported into a very interesting, thought provoking and disturbing story about the difficulties and prejudices faced by transsexuals, all of which are mirrored to some degree by the reactions of different characters in the show.

The acting is top notch, particularly the remarkable Lindsay Crouse, who could probably keep an audience's attention whilst reading out a recipe for muesli. She is great as a counsellor for those undergoing transition.

However, when a body is discovered in a storage shed, obviously the victim of a botched illegal surgery, the story gets very nasty indeed. I was impressed with the way the writers pulled no punches at all here. The descriptions of toothpaste tubes and piano wire being used to form the new vagina are difficult to listen to (and see in some bits). It's heart rending to hear the lengths people will go to because they are so desperate.

Also the descriptions of sexual acts and transference of certain body fluids are very graphic. Well done to the show for not side-stepping the issues and the horror of what is going on for some of these people.

It's far from the easiest episode to watch, and probably not a family viewing hour either, but it's good, tight writing and covers a subject well, without being over politically correct.
  • WOW!! This was such an episode

I loved this episode, because it is exciting and because the acting is fabulous!! Kate Walsh was great, she gave an speech very credible and emotional...and the plot was super entertaining I never got bored, haha.

I must say..one of the best episodes on CSI ever!! I just Loved it, and I think it was special.

I think the Transexual operations are really good explained in this episode, and the information and "casualities" complete the history really good, this was an incredible job, and it's sad beacause this things happen every day, so I think the subject is very modern and actualized.
  • Botched sex changes. Gross.

This was one of the grossest CSI episodes I have ever seen. I wasn't nessisarily painful to watch, just horribly bloody and gorey. The part near the end with the operating table in the storage room was disgusting. It takes a lot to gross me out but this definately did. Not my favorite episode at all, too vomit inducing.
  • Too gross for me to even finish watching

I'm not particularly squemish, but this is the first CSI where I actually had to turn off the TV halfway through, including the NY one where the guy got squashed between the containers. I switched off at the bit in the storage place, so I cant exactly rate it accurately, but it definitely isn't for the squeamish or faint hearted.
  • CSI team comes upon a murder of a woman, who is infact a man who has undergone a sex change. the brutality of the crime brings about a platform for talking about people who have or will undergo such a surgury and the raw issues surrounding such a decisio

First, this is a disturbing episode that captured me and rivited me. It can be uncomfortable for some due to the sexual theme of transsexuals and transexuality, but what came up for me was the level of the bloody aftermath of violence that was depicted. I like it when a show can really shock me, and this one did just that.

One touch that I picked up on was the theme of ambiguity that Grissom allows himself to be comfortable with. He never seems to judge the female transexual characters that he encounters, but sticks to the case. This reminds me of his encounters with Lady Heather and the exploration of his sexuality that was never really resolved but left ambigous.

The "good doctor" causing harm in the persuit of her cause was played off well and with a susprising revelation of who the good doctor in fact was. Again, the episode gripped me, shocked me, and built up to a dramatic ending. This was a must see.
  • A really great episode.

This man got a sex change and is now a woman. She was murdered out in her car and once they figured out what she went through they thought it was a hate crime. The find the tapes she was talking about and you figure out a horriable thing that had happened. Some one was doing illegal surgery on men or woman who wanted a sex change but were denied and they died. In the end you figure out that the person that killed her was the husband of the girl that was doing the surgerys. The reason she was killed was because ofthe tapes.
  • A surprise for Doc. Robbins on the autopsy table leads to a very interesting, gorey episode!

Show me an episode of CSI with unusual / interesting / strange / contraversial subject matter, a little gore and a decent twist to the tale and it'll probably be one of my favourites! This episode in particular is no exception. In the beginning what looks like the simple murder of a woman leads to something a lot more sordid. Some great scenes in this episodes my favourites include Grissom's meeting with the transexual Mimosa, Grissom discovering that the transexual vic was "menstrating, all the scenes at the transgender club and of course the discovery of the gender reassignment surgery gone wrong in the warehouse. One of the most gruesome scenes I've seen on CSI!

Add those altogether with an interesting plot with an even more interesting twist and you have one of my favourite CSI episodes! =]
  • A Young woman is killed 2mi after being pulled over. Doc discovers that this women biologically isn’t a women, which pulls the (most) of the CSIs into a world that they knew nothing about, and the pains that people will go through to get what they want.

This is the first episode that’s really turned my stomach. It might’ve been the fact that one person could use a toothpaste tube instead of the actual medical tools. This is also an episode, unless I’m mistaken, that isn’t played a whole lot, as this is one of the few episodes that my roommate and I didn’t remember who killed who.

Catherine has some great lines in this episode and seems to be the only one (besides Grissom) that isn’t really surprised by what’s going on. In fact, during the investigation Grissom had to jump in and redirect a conversation between Nick and a trans character witness. All in all this was a good episode, but I can understand why it’s not played frequently. It was slightly more bloody than normal and made the human race seem even more barbaric than normal. I enjoyed this episode, but would recommend it to people but not younger viewers.
  • This is in my opinion the best episode of CSI that has ever been made.

This is in my opinion the best episode of CSI that has ever been made. It addresses an issue that, unfortunately, many people still feel uncomfortable discussing. Transgendered people have always existed, but it is only lately that the means have been made available to them to make a full transition. What’s great about this episode is that it tackles the issue head on, not only giving factual information about transsexuals, but also showing how different people feel about them: Nick is uncomfortable; Grissom is very open to their way of life and not only tolerant, but supportive; Mia is not sure how to refer to the dead woman, referring to her as “him”; while Sara is adamant about calling the woman “her” – accepting her for what she felt most comfortable as. Some people say the episode is too gory, but I think the amount of gore is just right for the story being told. This type of episode is the reason I watch CSI.
  • A woman is found murdered in her car on the side of the road and the CSI team discovers that she has not always been a woman. She finds the body of another "MTF", killed during illegal surgury, and the doctor's husband kills her to protect his wife.

Once again CSI explores a unique group of people and both shacks and informs the general public (well at least the public that watches this show). They place a human face on people who are transgendered and show the good, the bad, and the ugly. When we find out that Dr Mona/Dr Carl left the body of Vern in the storage facility - all I can think is, \"how can you do that to another human being that you were trying to help\". It\'s nto the procedure, it\'s the fact that when things go wrong, and Vern dies on the table, Dr Carl/Dr Mona leaves the body there. This is a human being. I love the ending when Grissom is talking to Mimosa about oysters being able to change genders, he really tried to make her feel better.
  • Disturbing, fascinating, and NEEDED.

This episode deals with the seedy side of the transgender community that is almost painful to watch at times, especially when the team stumbles into a storage container that holds the victim of a botched sex-change surgery. You just can not help but wince. I was impressed how the writers had each of the characters respond to this subculture. The most notable reaction was from Grissom. For being so reserved, he takes this amazingly in stride. We have seen him do this before though, such as the episodes with Lady Heather. The topics covered in this episode are ones that deserve more attention. Even if it is just a drama show, it helps.
  • A very gory episode, that had me on the edge of the couch in morbid fascination.

A very gory episode, that had me on the edge of the couch in morbid fascination.

Although, by reading some of the other reviews it doesn't sound like people where as interested as I was in this episode, you have to admit, the gore in this episode was well-done. This gore that some people didn't seem to like actually got a 2005 Emmy nomination for Outstanding Makeup For A Series. I also thought that the atmosphere in this episode was really good, there's just something about a mysterious doctor preforming unauthorized sex-changes in a store room that gives it it's atmosphere. Also the characters reacting the these transsexuals was interesting. Nick for example "was on his toes" (for lack of a better term) around them while Grissom on the hand seemed to see nothing different about that might have bothered other people. I quote "..oysters are able to switch genders, perhaps humanity only having one gender is the mutation.." his intelligence and out look cease to amaze me. Given all of these things, I think that this episode should be given more respect, even if it may have been a little too much for you.

The team inviestigate the murder of a trans-sexual found in her convertable. And the case has Sara & Mia confused between him's & her's.

Very gross episode & definately not for the faint hearted especially the scene in the storage place with the body on the operating table. Nevertheless, I did manage to watch the episode, twice, and I kinda liked it except for all the bloody & gorey bits. The whole story line was different & interesting.

It was surprising near the end to find out the the doc was also a trans-sexual , should have seen it comming.
