  • A kidnapped woman isn't as it seems.

    9.0
This was another solid episode this time with a girl buried alive but when Grissom and Sara save her they find out things aren't as they seem when they find the woman was an accomplice of the kidnapper This episode produced two very good cases with the other one being a hit and run where it made Catherine question her job and the case gave Warrick a chance to turn over a new leaf So yes it was another good episode.moreless

  • Cleverly plotted episode with alot of twists and turns

normally in reviews i like to talk about character development but for two reasons, the first being i actually cant remember the character interactions and i really like the plot in this episode, im just gonna talk about the plot.

the fake kidnapping was a great twist. the girl ended up having an affair and the whole thing was planned. really cleverly done and you would of never guessed as it seemed so real.

the girl being killed, was really really sad :( i cant believe the older guy tried taking the credit for it though, that was sad cause he just wanted to protect the person he loved!

overall good episode. although compared to newer ones, things only get better!moreless
  • Two cases take interesting turns as investigators examine the evidence.

    8.1
In this episode of CSI, the investigators are called upon to investigate the kidnapping of a wealthy man's wife and the hit and run accident that killed a little girl.

The kidnapping case takes an interesting turn when evidence shows that the victim was actually an accomplice, whose partner in crime turned on her. There were several different points of evidence which were used to incriminate her, and each was fascinating. The hit and run perpetrator broke everyone's heart because he was such a good guy, and he accepted his punishment. In fact, the only reason he didn't go to the police originally was because his grandfather convinced him not to.

Some bits and pieces were marred by unconvincing acting, but the show definitely improved since the pilot episode.moreless
  • Buried Alive

    9.6
This episode outranks both the Pilot episode and Cool Change. Both storylines were cleverly plotted with a twist at the end. I was real sad about the grandson going to jail, but he did kill that girl even if it was unintentional. The grandfather trying to take the fall so his grandson wouldn't have to go to jail was real heartfelt. Warrick showed his soft side by offering his number to the kid for moral support. Loved that! But the highlight of the episode was the wife trying to scheme money from her husband. How low can you go? Serves her right to get caught and put away.moreless

    • Sara: Get a picture of the security pad, someone touches it before it's dusted, I break their fingers.

    • Grissom: I tend not to believe people. People lie. The evidence doesn't lie.

    • Sara: You're standing in my crime scene.
Nick: No. (shows his I.D badge saying he's a level 3) You're in mine. (Nick smiles and turns to walk out of the house)
Sara (envious): You're doing audio? I wanted that.
      Nick: I outrank you.
Sara: Technicality. Who did Grissom handpick to work here?

    • (The team finds the location of a kidnap victim)
Mr. Garris: You guys have got to move! Grissom: Mr. Garris? It's my experience that in situations like this, if you want to go fast, go slow.

    • (about a hit and run case)
Catherine: All we got is some paint that's going to match about twenty million other vehicles.
      Warrick: Yeah.
      Catherine: Bastard.

    • Sara: Excuse me. Is my evaluation interrupting you?
Grissom: No, no, no. I barely heard you.
Sara: Glad I have a healthy ego.

    • Grissom: People leave us clues, Nick. They speak to us in thousands of different ways. It's our job to make sure we've heard every thing they've said. Everything else is reasonable doubt.

    • (Grissom rushes into the room. He seems excited)
Grissom (smiling): You have to see the birthday present I got for your daughter.
Sara (walks in): What's the rule? How long do I have to be here before I start kicking in for gifts?
Catherine: When the spirit moves you, Sara. So, in your case, I guess, never. (Grissom opens the box and shows Catherine the chem set that he's holding in his hand)
Grissom: I got one of these chem labs when I was six. I almost blew up the whole house. (he chuckles)
Catherine: I hope you can return it 'cause, uh, Lindsey doesn't want a party. Grissom: Yeah, what kid doesn't want a party?
      Catherine: My kid.
Nick: Hey, Catherine what time's your little girl coming by?
      Catherine: She isn't.
Nick (holds up his gift): Yeah, but I got her a chem set.
Sara: You keep that; might learn something.
Nick: Stop flirting with me. Cath, really, when's the party?
Catherine (exasperated): What do I have to do --- put it on the bulletin board? There is no party. My daughter doesn't want a party. Is everybody clear on that? (everyone's pager goes off, they all leave, as Grissom leaves he places his chem set on Nick's)
Grissom: We'll play with these later. (leaves, and Nick laughs)

    • Grissom: You any better?
Catherine (looks up at him): What are you talking about?
Grissom: Your little major-minor blow-up about Lindsey not wanting a party.
Catherine: Oh, that. Yeah. (sighs) I'm just afraid that I'm making her weird, you know?
      Grissom (looks at her): No.
Catherine: I work 24/7. I have no time for my friends. My daughter rarely sees me having any fun. And, all of a sudden, she doesn't want a party. (Catherine grabs her cup and heads out the doorway. She and Grissom start down the hallway)
Grissom: And that's because of you?
Catherine: Yes. I'm her mother. She mimics me.
Grissom: Well, then she'll be fine. I mean, look at you.
Catherine: You're just saying that to make me feel better.
Grissom: Yeah. (behind them, Sara steps out into the hallway from the garage carrying a roll of tape)
Sara: Hey Grissom....could you come tape me up? (without waiting for an answer, Sara ducks back into the room. Grissom turns to look at Catherine)
      Grissom: I love my work.
      Catherine: It shows.

  • NOTES (2)

  • ALLUSIONS (4)

    • Brass: Oh yeah Kreskin, what's that?

'The Amazing Kreskin', a mentalist and magician, who claimed to be able to foretell things.

    • In the scene where Sara is in the confiscated SUV with her wrists bound by duct tape, she asks Grissom to cut the tape off by saying "Cut me Mick." That line is an allusion to the scene in the Academy Award winning movie Rocky where Rocky Balboa tells his trainer Mickey Goldmill to open a cut over his left eye in the hope that it will allow him to open the eye which has been swollen shut during his fight with champion Apollo Creed.

    • Title: Crate 'n Burial

The title of this episode is a play on the title of the housewares store chain, Crate and Barrel.

    • In the opening scene a woman is shown starting a cigarette lighter. When she looks around and realizes she's in a crate, she screams and cries. This similar scenario would also be used in the Season 5 episodes "Grave Danger (1)" and "Grave Danger (2)."
