If I want to watch a silly show, I'll go through my daughter's dvd collection and watch "The Wiggles." whenever CSI goes off on these Hodges and Wendy tangents, I feel I've wasted an hour. The "Star Trek" homage was bad, but this episode was even worse. The kids in the episode were terrible, and the way the lesser characters think of their repective bosses was not good character development. Hodges making fun of Brass for drinking too much, and dork coroner making fun of the senior coroner for looking at cat websites was low class. This is not what I expect when I tune in to CSI, for a joke and laughs I watch CSI:Miami.
*some spoilers* I don't know why some people didn't like this episode. I really enjoyed it. Yeah I know it was silly and apparently "stupid" but I really have to disagree with that. I know it was silly but I liked the humor. It was funny and I didn't want the show to end. I thought it was cute about the whole asking Wendy out for dinner and Henry thinking it was Hodges that did the pranks. And I like that Hodges cares so much about Wendy that he would take the blame for something he didn't do. And since " he" did it its going to go on his perminent record. I thought it was nice to see that kiss becuase Hodges has been waiting for that moment for such a long time! And now it finially happened.
An awesome ep for fans of these two techies. This seems to have been the week for breaking up every romance and/or couple right across the board. Doesn't seem to matter which network you watched this week, they all torpedoed the hopes and wishes of almost every "shipper" out there. Which is why this ep was such a pleasant surprise.
The infrequent episodes that focus on the "lab rats" have become my favorites. I look forward to each of them, especially those that spotlight Wendy and Hodges. Tonight's ep, although not quite as good as some of the earlier ones (such as the Star Trek spoof, which was simply superb), was entirely satisfying due to the two hesitant lovebirds finally putting their cards on the table (in a way only those two could, or would, do). Even more interesting, the ep was actually written by Wallace Langham (Hodges) and Liz Vassey (Wendy).
The bulk of the ep revolves around a few "lab mice" (get it? Junior lab rats?), coming into the lab to learn by studying an actual case. A not-entirely-subtle "homage" to past and present CSIs is given in the form of the students being presented as young versions of Grissom, Katherine, and Warrick (there's even a "moment" between mini-Katherine and mini-Warrick).
It's so frustrating that after such a good episode last week, they come out with an episode the following week that is as huge a ball of nonsense as this was. The characters (or the caricatures of the characters) made less than no sense. The story itself was totally uncompelling and rather boring. Even concept was totally zero. It was basically just a regurgitation of an idea already aired on CSI (when Hodges played a CSI game with some of the lab techs). What I don't get is, it didn't work then, what could possibly have made them think it would work now?
All and all this was just a bad idea.
Could we please just stick to the vintage CSI style and not delve into these ridiculous side tracks? I think we'd all be better off.
I know there are a lot of mixed feelings among fans about the "lab rats" episodes, but I like seeing the techs get the spotlight every now and again for a change of pace, and they really don't do it ALL that often. The kids were probably my least favourite aspect of it, but I thought the caricatures of the senior characters were kinda cute - especially hearing Ray talking like Hodges. Yeah, it was kind of over the top, but that's just how Hodges is when he goes off on a flight of fancy and I wouldn't have expected less. If they were to do this kind of thing too often, I'd get sick of it, but once or twice a season - just as kind of a breather - works just about right for me. And then it'll be back on to the normal gore and gravitas, and I'll be quite happy for that, too!
I think with all the serial killing that goes on during a typical season of CSI, having a light-hearted Wendy/Hodges episode is a welcome distraction. The CSI children were really pretentious and annoying but at least it set up a situation where Liz Vassey got to leave the lab and strut her stuff. While gimmicky and a bit silly (who didn't guess who had actually sabotaged 'henry?')- two under-appreciated characters finally got the romantic story-line that had been hinted at for so long... This season has been mixed- Rascall Flats episode left me flat, the return of Dr. Jekyll provided some good action... Now back to L&O reviews I guess...
