TV Guide May 4-10, 2009 Special Issue

Article Summary: The finale episodes of the season get us a little closer to learning more about the latest addition to the team.

In the May 7 ep, Langston and Robbins are going to have a coroner-driven mystery and the 2 of them are going to road trip it.

The topic of the May 14 finale is Las Vegas-focused about good old fashioned greed. The mystery centers on a hidden stash of casino chips. It all revolves around money - people who have none & people who want some and feel like they've struck gold.

Even though this episode has the now-solidified team working together to solve the case, a season-ending shocker involving Langston's past might upset that dynamic. Exec producer Shankar promises "We have a very intense ending - you'll never see it coming... It will shake Langston up very profoundly. And it's definitely going to leave you wondering what's going to happen the moment after."

Auseillo Files: Breaking: Jorja Fox returns to 'CSI'

Less than a year after walking off into the sunset jungle with leading man William Petersen, Jorja Fox has inked a deal to return to CSI as Sara for multiple episodes -- sans Grissom.

According to executive producer Carol Mendelsohn, Fox will reappear in the Sept. 24 episode when viewers will "discover where life has taken Sara Sidle and what brings her back to the CSI team in Las Vegas."

    A quickie:

Question: Will Grissom be joining Sara back on CSI early in the season? --Lois
Ausiello: No, but some old friends of his will be. Exec producer Carol Mendelsohn reveals to me exclusively that CSI will be bringing back a few members of the infamous Millander clan in this season's second episode. "The last time we saw [serial killer] Paul Millander was in season 2 when Grissom had dinner at [his alter ego] Judge Mason's house, because, if you remember Paul lived a double life as a judge. And we met Mrs. Mason and their young son, Craig. Well, Paul's dead, but Mrs. Mason and Craig live on. And we will see them in episode 2." Why? Keep reading for a possible clue...

Question: The season premiere of CSI is only two months away. I'm sure that you've gotten some kind of spoiler or tidbit to throw to us! --Andy and Rebecca
Ausiello: You can drop the "or." I've got a spoiler and a tidbit, courtesy of exec producer Naren Shankar. First the tidbit: "You're going to get an explanation for that ring Langston (Laurence Fishburne) still has on his finger in [episode 2]." Now for the spoiler: "We're going to launch a new season-long serial killer arc this season. Starting at the end of our premiere, a brand new nemesis [will emerge] who has a very unique way of killing." More unique than that whole miniature thing? "This time, the crime scene is always the body," Shankar teases. "We're calling him Dr. Jekyl." (ausiello EW)

TV Guide: CSI's Riley Leaves the Lab

Executive producer Naren Shankar confirms to TVGuideMagazine.com that Lauren Lee Smith will not return as series regular, Riley Adams. “She’s not going to be back for Season 10,” he tells us exclusively. “It was an issue of how we were feeling the ensemble was working. When we brought in the character of Riley, it got lost in the shuffle a little bit because we had lost Warrick, we had lost Sara, and then in the middle of last season Grissom finally left. I think, as a result, the character never quite found its footing in terms of the rest of the gang.”

Riley’s absence will open up a slot for Sara Sidle, who is now ready to return to work after her severe burnout in Season 8. “She shows up because the team is understaffed,” says Shankar. “The undersheriff reaches out for a recommendation and Sara says, ‘I think that person might be me.’”

Jorja Fox returns for at least 5 episodes, which will address what has been going on with Sara and Grissom and why she is able to work again as a CSI. Shankar doesn’t yet know if Sara is in Vegas to stay, but adds that we’ll see plenty of her while she is there. “We’re going to spotlight her for the episodes that she’ll be in,” he promises.

It was reported that on CSI, Nick Stokes would be getting a promotion. Can you maybe clarify what "promotion" means?
Nick will act as Catherine's No. 2, working alongside her much in the same way she did with Grissom. But wait, you say, isn't that pretty much what he's already doing? Maybe, so it's about time they made it official. "It is a promotion for him to a supervisory position," a CBS rep says.

    TV Guide Sept 14-20, 2009 pg 50

Where we left off Dr. Langston came face-to-face with an armed suspect and for the 1st time used his weapon to kill. "The shooting has really driven home a couple of things for him." "You're going to see a much more confident, much more driven Dr. Langston."

What's next "The theme this year is family," says exec producer Shankar. "Catherine is dealing with her new level of responsibility, Nick is finding his place as more of a leader in the field, Greg is still dealing with the fact that when you start out as somebody's assistant, there's still a tendency for people to treat him like he's just the DNA guy with the goofy hair." "That little geeky romance between Wendy & Hodges is going to continue."

Who's back - and who's not Riley Adams has left the building, making way for Sara Sidle to return for 5 episodes and help out the understaffed lab. "You definitely get some clues to how things have been going in Grissom and Saraland.. last time we saw them, they were kissing in the jungle." Does that mean it's over? Laughs Shankar, "It's not like she's got his shrunken head in her kit."

So, are we actually going to see Riley "leaving" in the season 10 opener, or has she been completely dropped?

I didn't care much for Riley, but they could at least write a character out of the show properly, instead of just having them "poof" disappear into te nether. Happened with Sofia too.

I believe that Langston killed Riley.

I'm sure she didn't just disappear. I have a feeling she was murdered.. and that'll come to play sometime this season.. maybe the finale.

Yeah, and maybe the report on Catherine's leadership skills wasn't actually written by Riley, but by Langston.
