A professional bank robbery leads to the death of a detective. While investigating the case, Grissom deals with his hearing loss and another CSI gets a personal revelation.
Poor Lockwood! No fair, Cyrus Lockwood was my favorite detective in the show (except for Brass), but I think they kinda pushed it killing off Lockwood. On the other hand, Sam Braun pops up again, Cath finds out he's her biological father after he kills a man, althrough, he maybe a sneaky, slimey S.O.B but I like him. Grissom gets surgery on his ear, I didn't really know what to think, where's the GSR? In one word, I thought overall this was an emotional episode, but a very good one at that, the sour note was losing one of the Las Vegas Police Department's finest, but that's about it.moreless
Wow. What an episode. Where do I start? First, the team must deal with the death of a fellow officer, Det. Lockwood. But that is almost forgotten about by the end as the characters deal with their own problems. Grissom's hearing has deteriorated to the point where he needs surgery. He leaves Catherine in charge fo the case. Catherine goes to Sam Braun alone, but since she is confronting him about being her father, it works out to her benefit. After she finishes her business, she meets Grissom at the hospital for moral support. But I must have mssed the Spiderman boxers everyone else is talking about. Poor Greg is still shaken up from the previous lab explosion and whe see a softer side of Grissom as he reassures Greg, who tells him his hands have been shaking ever since, and offers himself if Greg needs to talk about it.moreless
I thought this one was great. The case was excellent, with some good evidence collecting and processing, and to kill off a season 3 regular, well, I wasn't expecting that. What was different about this one was that it had a lot of character moments which were not confined to this episode. Something that is rare for this show. It tends to usually focus on one episode at a time, and viewers could watch them in any order and still be in on the story. But Catherine found out who her true father was, which i'm sure will affect episodes to come and Grissom is fixing his hearing, which was a major story arc from the second and third seasons. It will be interesting to see the continuation into season four and if these events will have any impact on the future. But all round, a brilliant episode. 9.5/10 Justin Grima This is my 6th review.moreless
What a great way to end the season! I only wish there was some GSR to go with it, and I don't mean the kind Nick found on the chair.
Grissom's hearing is worse & he has to undergo surgery to fix it. I like how he told Doc Robbins that he ignored his problem because he thought it would go away. Grissom is a well educated man and should know better, but it just shows us that in the end he's only human. Catherine finds out that Sam Braun is her bialogical father & what a way to find out, I'm still wondering why would she check an unknown blood sample against her own for DNA comparison. And right at the end I couldn't help smiling at Grissom's backless hospital gown and his spiderman boxers too. I think Cath was smiling at them as well. moreless

Goof: During the robbery, when the lady grabs her son. There is a visible reflection of the boom-mic and the operator in the teller glass.
Edit
Goof: When Grissom takes out the evidence box to dust the detonator for fingerprints, he puts the whole fortune cookie into his mouth and disappears a few seconds later.
Edit
In this episode, Greg has 2 ace bandages: one on his cheek, and the other on his neck. There is no doubt that these are for his injuries in the previous episode, "Play with Fire".

Grissom: You rang?
Greg: Yeah. Yeah. Blood flex from the safe deposit box. (takes the paper, his hands shaking.) Two distinct samples, only got one hit though. Uh, the primary sample belongs to Vivian Verona. Cocktail waitress. She was killed on the top floor of old Pike's Gambling hall about two years ago. There's a report.
Grissom: Multiple puncture wounds, different depths, possible two knifes.
Greg: I pulled the crime scene photos for you too. The case is still pending. Murder weapons never found. Now, the secondary blood sample came N.D. Could be the killer. I say murder's messy. (His hands are visibly shaking)Grissom: Greg. Your hands are shaking.
Greg: No they're not.
Grissom: Hold your hands up.
Greg: Uh... They've been shaking ever since... (He points to the lab that is being repaired after the explosion last episode) Can't really make it stop.
Grissom: Is it affecting your work?
Greg: Uh, if I was bomb expert, maybe. No, I think I have it under control.
Grissom: It will stop. If you need me, I'll be around.
Greg: Okay.

Brass: My guess is Sam needed a job done, he came to you.
Rob Rubio: You know, when I get out of here, I'm going to take pleasure in putting air in your head.
Brass: Let me put a fact in yours. So, here's the deal. You give up your boss, you get to spend the rest of your life in a jail cell, not on death row. You left a lot of yourself behind, killer.
Rob Rubio: I'll take death row. I'll live longer.

Nick: These don't look like your ordinary pair. I mean, look at the blades. They're almost double the size of the handles.
Warrick: What's the purpose of scissors that long?
Grissom: Murder.
Catherine: (walks in) I hear scissors, I hear murder. What did I miss?
Grissom: We may have the murder weapon.
Sara: (walks in) Hey, Vivian Verona worked for Sam Braun, she was a cocktail waitress at Pike's Gambling Hall. She was murdered the night before it was imploded in one of the penthouse suite.
Nick: Sounds like somebody wanted her to disappear in the rubble. Bet you Braun hired his own clean-up crew for that one.
Sara: The pyro guys found her on their last walk-through. They assigned a CSI, but the case ran cold before it even got started. There was no suspect and no motive.
Grissom: (staring at the monitor) Warrick, enhance the blade area.
Warrick: Hmm, let me see if I can flip it around so we're not looking at an eye chart.
Grissom: R-p-r-t.
Catherine: Rampart.
