First (as far as I know) time that we follow the aftermath of the murders through the killer. This episode is special because we can see that the killer has a wife and a kid, and how it breaks his family up after the police find out he's a murderer.
Karl Cooper, an ex-con, sneaks out in the dead of night to kill a man who betrayed him in court. When he leaves the scene of the crime, Ally Sullivan's car crashes into his, and she insists on making a police report. Karl can't have the cops find out he was anywhere near the crime scene that night, so he kills Ally, beacuse dead people can't talk. Karl goes home and pretends nothing ever happened. He shaves his beard off and in the morning we find out he has a little daughter and a wife. We continue to follow Karl Cooper through the rest of the episode, which makes "Killer" different. In the end Karl runs away, but he calls his wife who confirms that the police are there and are threatening to take Maddy (his daughter), so Karl walks up to a police officer and confesses. "Killer" teaches you that even if you think you've committed the "perfect" murder, there's always something unexpected, something you didn't anticipate, that might send your plan crashing down on your ears.
Great episode, I loved the point of view shift. *DISCLAIMER* I in now way shape or form wish bad things on anyone, I don't like thought that people can do evil and live with themselves. With that being said I really wanted to bad guy to get away with it, it was so ridiculous that he did not take the cell phone, that was the reason he returned to her, and as meticulous as he was, he would have found the phone and disposed of it, and since the victim did not dial the number, but was just storing it, nobody would have been the wiser as to who he was. Great episode, they should most definitely try more like this, one a year would be nice.
This CSI was no run of the mill episode. Nick, Grissom and everyone one else was very logical. A very professional killer, Karl Cooper, kills two people. A party girl and an old friend. When they found the party girl, Alay, this murder was the biggest mistake of all. Alay typed in the numberplate on her phone. Karl twisted her neck so she only had about a minute to do it before she died. She managed to hit in YKA.
Side B of the case Catherine found a gun, which was very loud. Later in the case, which is getting complicated, they find a silencer which muffles the gun sound. Nick finds a burnt SIV. He finds that it is the killers bike. He found out that a Janet Cooper bought it. Nick cracked the case. He puts Karl in jail.
I remember watching the episode, or at least I remember the part when Nick and Greg went out into the desert and found porn but that is the only part I remember. I really couldn't say anything constructive about this episode if I tried. Seeing it from the killer’s point of view is an interesting thing to do but it would have only worked if they had done it properly. Alas they didn't and I was almost at a point of wondering when the episode ended. The producers of the show are lucky that I am completely and utterly addicted to their show otherwise this season would almost see me stop watching. But since I love this show, I will continue watching but only for now will I continue watching, this may change.
After six seasons even the creative team of CSI will get bored with what they are doing and need to take a step in a new direction. It may not fit with what the audience is use to, and some fans may not like it because it does not fit into the box they call CSI but that does not make it less of a gem. The audience has to be prepared to allow the creative team to take a leap and we have leap with them or we will all get bored. I do not want the writers, actors, directors and producers to get bored because then they may loose their desire to make the show. Stale bread is not so delicious and if you add some spice it makes for a great new taste treat. So go on let the team try new roads, new ideas... not all will be gems but at least the team won't get stale.
When the episode started, and we got to see the killers face, my first reaction was "oh no".
God was I wrong! I should have known better, every CSI episode is good, and this one was great! I actually enjoyed seeing it from the killers point of view.
The guy that played the killer was really good!
every one of his scenes gave me the chills, I was actually feeling bad for the killer, and felt what he was going through with him.
It was great to see Susanna Thompson on TV again, I loved her on Once and Again.
to sum it up, a great episode, it seems they are going for creepy-er episodes this season, and Im liking it.
This is not your average run of the mill CSI episode. What is typical for CSI is the evidence collection and evaluation of the evidence is spotlighted. This episode shows us, the viewers, what they crime scene would be like from the perspective of the killer. The gang takes a back seat in the episode to let the evidence do the talking as it is laid at the scene.
I feel this episode was needed to show a different take on a crime scene. The fact that this killer was living a double life was icing on the cake. But I feel this episode left a big question to be answered. How far would you go to protect someone you love? Would you be the good citizen and turn them in…or would you help them hide and become a criminal your self?
But this killer stepped up to the plate and was a dad in the end.
Overall a pretty good episode, good writing and good acting go hand and hand.
Killer is a CSI episode that includes the who-done-it from the get go, leaving the audience, but not the CSI's informed as to who the perpertrator is. What develops is a storyline with a different and intreguing flavor.
Killer begins with two back-to-back, but unrelated, murders by the same perpertrator. For the first time the audience gets to see who the killer is and just about all of the circumstances around the crime.
For the first time, from the beginning, the audience knows the identity of the killer and much of his current life while the CSI's know nothing. What develops is not your typical story but one where we know many of the connections and are excited to see the CSI's "get" another piece of the puzzle that we already know.
A down on his luck scruffy guy is murdered in a fleabag motel. Soon after the killer is in a serious car accident when a young girl T-bones him when she runs an intersection. He urges her to not call the police or file a report. "I don't have insurance." He turns to kill her when she starts dialing her cell phone. She would be someone who could place him near the scene of the first murder. Right after the killer goes home and comfortablly returns to his normal suburban wife, home, and life.
At first the CSI's dont realize that these are related cases, and it is only once further evidence is uncovered in the individual cases that they can see the common thread that joins these cases. Having two cases turn into one is not a new storyline for CSI: LV. It has been done a couple of times with different variations on the theme. However this is the first episode that I can think of that is "through the eyes of the killer." Watching their process in working the cases (case), tying the cases together, and closing in on the killer is a different approach than the usual format.
In the beginning I was bored with the episode, it's not what I'm used to. But towards the middle I actually found myself enjoying the episode & wanting to see more from the killers point of view.
This time CSI was totally different, something I'm beginning to enjoy, fresh new ideas.

This episode is from the killers point of view, we already know who he is but the CSI's don't & they have to investigate & work it out.
The ending was a little dissapointing though, with the killer giving himself up instead of being followed & caught by the police, or getting away & maybe comming back in a future episode.
I love CSI but these last few episodes have disappointed me. They've all had great potential but for some reason, they have all fallen short. It seems like the writers wanted us to fell sorry for the murderer here but it just made me even more ready to condemn him for his crimes. Regardless of his intentions, the man is still a killer. To save his own behind, he murdered a young girl with his bare hands. I'm not sure how this episode could have been better but knowing CSI, I'm sure it could have been done.
Let's hope next week's episode with Lady Heather will blow us all away.
I hated rating this episode under a 9.0, but tHis was not a typical CSI:LV episode. We are usually left guesses up until the end as to who committed the crime but we know right up front who the killer is. Stay away from this format please and stick to what we have come to love.
I really found this episode to be lacking in many many ways. The whole seeing it from the killer's perspective was just poorly done on its own. Not to mention what I and most people watch this show for is the dynamics between the characters. We like the feeling "knowing" our CSI team and watching them grow and unfold. This episode had the team taking a major backseat which left a true fan wanting. The crime itself was easy to figure before you got any real background as well. I say to this episode, only watch it if you are really bored.
While watching this episode I was only trying to figure out one thing: Did I even like this? Honestly, I'm not sure if this style of actually showing the crime, with offender and everything, works for this type of show. I felt that the investigation actually was overwhelmed by the showing of what was going on with the killer and, while this may be effective with other types of crime shows (Law and Order CI, etc...), I don't think this is what I want in CSI.
The episode was ok. It's not one of my favorites, but not one I would refuse to watch again. It was from the killer's point of view, so we didn't see very much of the lab.
I thought that the ending could have been wrapped up nicer than "oh, they're going to take my daughter, so I guess I'll turn myself in". It would have been great to have the CSI's NOT catch Karl, and bring him back in a later episode like they did with Paul Milander and the Blue Paint killer.
The problem with this episode is that we know exactly what happened, but the CSI team doesn’t. So all the turns this episode takes aren’t a surprise for us viewers. So I think it’s quite hard, to make this episode outstanding, with this concept. And after all we don’t get to know a lot of things, like most of the victim’s life or at least less than usual. But still there were some funny thing in here; like the “death room” witch was processed several times before and always dead people were found there. So I can0t understand, why they don’t know, that no records of the customers exists. But I liked the manager’s words, when he told that he has the police on speed dial, because there are always dead bodies in his “hotel”.
Well I hope for better a better episode next week again. This episode wasn’t bad, but the expectations CSI Las Vegas has to full fill are extremely high and I thing it was only a matter of time, till they can’t reach them, after such great season so far. But I think that will be the bottom of this season. A bottom line on a very, very high level.
Who would have thought that doing a murderer's point of view episode would turn out this good? >i>Killer was similar to Law & Order: Criminal Intent, another one of my shows, without being a blatant ripoff. CSI took the idea and made it their own.
William Sadler did an excellent portrayal of a doting husband and father and almost-reformed criminal. Sadler switches back and forth between the emotions with ease, giving the whole thing a surreal feel. If Sadler's Karl Cooper wasn't allowed to escape to return for a future episode then the ending that was used is the next best.
Standard 'shippy/fashion comments: No real GSR other than G&S happily working together for the entire episode. Actually, I didn't notice any 'ship fodder of any kind. There was very little Greg but he had the best line in the whole ep. Cath's hair & green outfit were fantastic.
