Allthough the situation is more or less tragic, it becomes so funny when you see one bad thing happening on the other to a guy who must be the most unfortunate in the world. I know it is horrible to laugh, but I just can't help but laugh. And I am sure that there are quite a few who has enjoyed that guilty pleasure. Imagine the worst day you have had in your life, compound that a thousandfold and you won't be close to having the kind of day the guy in this episode had. And still you just can't help but laugh when thinking about the fate of this guy. It's like all the fates and gods has decided to say "Let's dump all the crap we have gathered on this guy, and see what happens".
  • End of miniature killer

    9.8
    "Superb"
I really liked this episode, mainly for the part dedicated to the unlucky guy who accidentally killed his wife and a young lady: it was strange and funny to see Catherine laugh at the guy imprisoned in the cement and after hearing him telling the story about how he passed over the feet of his daughter...grotesque and original I would say, hope not to pass a day like the one Max lives in this episode.

I didn't understand why they ended the miniature killer story so soon: it was compelling and seemed a great challenge for Grissom, he needed a nemesis since Paul Millander times...well, let's see how the season goes on now, I hope that, like others said, we'll see some more miniature killer stuff in the next episodes.
  • The miniature crime scene killer is back in action. A poor man has the worse day of his life.

It is always a surprise when the miniature crime scene killer attacks. There really was no connection between the murders. As I understand he was in love with the lady. I expected to see a miniature Gil somewhere in his place. Maybe we will see his suicide miniature in the next episode. The most weird part was Gil using the computer and finding out the detail of the picture that an experienced video technician couldn’t do. It was great to see Catherine laugh, she had some rough time this season. Finding funny the Max situation in the cement - she reminded me of Scully laughing at the poor guy who’s mouth disappeared in Je Souhaite. A bit out of character but good to warm your hart and have a good laugh.

Nick still needs more screen time. And he even didn’t guess that is was yello?? I loved this episode.
  • Is this really the last of the miniature killer???????

Something in me screams that we are not done with the miniature killer. Ernie Dell (sorry if I got his name wrong)never really gave us a sufficient reason as to why he committ these very well thought out murders. I really liked the whole idea of the miniatures, but am a littled disapointed in the end. But I still don't think this is the last we have heard about the miniatures. Now to switch gears to the funnier part of the episode. What isn't comical about a man stuck in cement? Catherine had every right to laugh through this whole episode. It was nice that they added this part to the episode. It changed the tone of the series and it was a nice addition.
  • Another installment in the case of the minature crime scene killer - but I do not think it will be the last - even if the "killer" is now dead.

I have to wait HOW long for the next episode!! Ok, I guess I'll just go back and watch all the episodes involving the minature crime scenes again and hope that Santa gets me everything I want, I have been a very good girl. Now, the first thing I thought when I saw this episode was that Ernie just can't be serial killer, I mean, really, does he look like the mastermind behind this all? When I first saw the actor I thought, it can't be him, he just doesn't have that "look". Don't ask me why, but somewhere in the deep recesses of my brain I have an idea of what serial killers look like. Ernie is not it. I figure we'll come back to this either when Griss gets back or next season. I don't want to wait that long, but Milander and the Blue Paint killer were cases that were revisted in a later season. What I would really like is to have a minature of the lab or Grissom's townhouse show up - that would be creepy. The other case with Suzie and Max was funny. I mean it was sad too, but I was laughing right with Cath. Poor guy, he accidentlt kills his grandma, runs over his daughter, accidently stabs his wife, and gets stuck in cement trying to dispose of a dead body? This guy really has some bad luck. The little girl, Suzie, was adorable. I cringed when she almost ate the Jell-O off the floor. She got to watch lots of tv and draw pictures for the "giant". So nice to see the daughter of a single mother as a well-adjusted cutie with a big imagination. Other random thoughts - what was up with Doc Robbbins? Bad mood? Was the morgue really that busy? And did anyone read the e-mails on Grissom's computer. Greg wants a review - maybe so he can be a CSI Level 2? And why would Sophia email him back after he called her? Overall, loved the episode. Everyone can see how tired and worn out Grissom is becoming.
  • The Miniature Killer is revealed...or was he?

    9.5
    "Superb"
Ah...so quick are we to asume that the \"miniature killer\" storyline is over. Sorry, but the conclusion to this was way to anti-climatic. We\'ve come to expect better from CSI and the writers and I don\'t believe this arc is over yet.

The look on Grissom\'s face at the end told the whole story, and I don\'t believe he thinks this is the end of the Miniature Killers. His look said \"this was too easy\".

We\'ll see more of the Miniature Killer again...and I predict it will have something to do will Sara and/or Greg. Why? The writers are setting up a sort of love triangle between the three (Zumanda hinted as much in a recent interview that the whole Sara obsession thing was not over).

Remember, you saw it here first! ;-)
  • A man is found up to his waist in concrete with a dead body beside him. Elsewhere, an old woman is found with he head in an oven and other man is found dead in a chicken culling factory.

    9.7
    "Superb"
This episode has been one of my favourites this year for a few reasons. Firstly, and man in the concrete is a hilarious character, but still a believable one. His bad day is the epitome of bad days, and the telling of his day near the end of the episode was done in a very silent movie type of way (albeit with narration).

Secondly, this episode concluded the miniature killer story arc (apparently. I'm unconvinced and think that something will happen in the next few episodes that opens it up again to last it the series), which so far has been a fantastic story, something CSI has lacked (a serial killer appearing in several episodes, creating a recurring story) and should strive to do more often (like Stargate SG-1. All it's episode can be watched independently, a la CSI, but there is also a larger story arc which lasts the full season). This story has been interesting to watch and each episode added just enough to keep it going without revealing too much too soon.

Hopefully this story continues on to the end of the season, which I feel it may do what with certain aspects having not been fully explored (ie. the doll images in the models etc.)

Finally, I love episodes when two seemingly unrelated cases come together near the end of the episode, making it all make sense. I was wondering what was going to happen with the oven lady, it seemed to be a slow moving story, then when you saw the bad day guy trying to hide his face from the little girl, everything started to make a bit more sense (ie. why there was no body at the jello house).

Overall, I would say this episode was very well scripted, flowed well, and came to satisfactory conclusions which, for me, is what I look for in a tv show.
  • The end of the mini-replica murders?

    8.4
    "Great"
Is that the end of the mini-replica murders? I think it was a little bit silly. We didn't understand almost anything: why he kill these people, how he understood about the details in their houses (like the bleach in Delaney's house or about the drugs in the garden in the second house...)? This was really disapointing.

But I like how Sara teased Grissom! It was a really cute GSR moment.

Catherine was really funny. Her case was funny and horrible in the same time. The poor Russian lady... to die this stupid. I won't tell anything about his wife. I hope this is not posible in the real life.
  • Great show again!

After a poultry workers is found dead by trying to

Electrocute the chickens so that they can get ready to

Have delivered to eat, as the day goes from bad to Worse for our team. Three more murders are found. Including that of a Russian woman. Great show as well as very funny!

Catherine did have a great laugh.
  • Finally find out about the miniatures!! Also other funny parts.

    8.5
    "Great"
The miniature crime scenes were driving me nuts all season. Im glad to finally find out who. But the 'why' was still a little vague. I understand why that guy killed Izzy, he had ruined the chicken plant's reputation. But did I miss the explanation for the 2nd victim? Or was it because she wasn't very moral; by selling her prescription drugs. And I assume the last guy was killed because he was sleeping with the boss's wife... All in all an excellent story with an ending I didn't expect, but the explanations were weak.

I loved the 2nd plot line, with the poor guy in the cement. :)
  • Everyone has had one of those days where accidents lead to other accidents but when one guy has this bad of a day, you can't help but laugh at his poor miserable existence. You feel bad because it's really serious but you just can't stop from laughing.

What a great turn-around episode, finally the previous cases come together with a horrific ending of self-inflicted gunshot. And the other so terribly funny it was sad. This is a memorable episode in that it takes us back to when it wasn't all too serious but extrememly enjoyable. Great, great writing and acting!!!
  • I thought last night's episode was very good. I enjoyed it greatly I loved that Catherine kept laughing at the crime scene situation and then at what had happened to cause the deaths.

    9.9
    "Superb"
I think Grissom's heading in the direction of burn out has been played wonderfully by WP. I got so sad last night listening to his response to Catherine and then to Sara and then again when he was watching Ernie Dell's confession. I almost wanted to cry for the guy it was so heartbreaking. I am so glad that Grissom is taking sabbatical. Anyway, I loved that Sara had a hunch about something and then turned around and said to Grissom, "See how it feels?" It was a cute little moment I think. That of course is all we got nothing more. They really like leaving us in the dark about the GSR stuff but what can you do. Poor Max it seems the only luck he ever had was bad luck. I liked that Nick and Warrick were working together again in this episode. At last they got the MCSK but unfortunately the guy committed suicide and live on a computer for Grissom to see. Anyway, overall I enjoyed the episode and hoping the rest of the season will continue to be good.
  • Funniest Story line yet! Catherine has the best laugh!

    "Superb"
Catherine fine a man stuck in cement from the chest down with a dead woman 2 feet infront of him. The poor man as it ends up, has killed his wife by accident when a slip in spilt jello causes her to fall into a sharp peice of glass, then the nighbor witnesses and the poor guy goes to talk to her and accdiently trips her, killing her too!. poor guy.lol. The second storyline is yet another murder with a model. Only this time they find the model maker, but its too late, Grisom? how ever you spell it was watching live fead of the guy when he blows his brains out. End episode. Very humerous/ important. Over all, a very good episode to watch.
  • Locomotives, chickens and fate.

    8.2
    "Great"
This episode made me laugh because I can see why Catherine was losing it. It happens to most of us in jobs that are very emotionally draining, we find something funny, albeit morose or in bad taste and we laugh, it's a defense mechanism. The poor guy found in the cement was funny to an extent though but sad as well. He was a true jinx that day for his wife, his neighbor and himself(not to mention his grandmother). The serial killer who left the models of the murder scene is back as well and linked to the death of a poultry plant worker who is found face down in a table designed to electrocute chickens before they slaughter them. You can see how things are beginning to weigh on Grissom and that he might just be ready to take that sabbatical to Walden's Pond after all.
  • Grissom is feeling depressed and Catherine can't stop laughing.

    10
    "Perfect"
I really enjoyed this episode. I thought the juxtaposition between the comedy that Catherine found in her case and the depression that Grissom felt concerning his, was nice. It really lightened what could have been a very heavy episode. I love the fact they introduced a little more comedy this year. I wish that there had been a more satisfying end to the "miniture killer" case. We may never know why the guy killed those people, and what the doll was all about. I have a feeling that there will be a little more to this story. The guy never actually confessed. Maybe he just made the models and someone else did the killing. What did he say? "I'm a handyman, I fix things." I think he might have thought he was fixing someone's life by taking the blame for the murders. Plus, if he's not around, than he can't make the models for the killer. Maybe he thought that the killer would stop without models. Anyway, we'll see, right?

I hope when Grissom comes back he's nice and rested and refreshed. I loved it when Sara turned the tables on Grissom by pulling his normal "I know something, but you have to wait to find out what it is" schtick. I hate to think that Grissom identifies with the killers. Say it with me, "Gissom You are loved." Now go rest and come back the Grissom we all know.
  • Grissom smiled!

    "Perfect"
Wonderful episode. I noticed they really focused on Grissom this episode. I guess because he -- wait, nevermind, I could be spoiling that for someone. I really felt sorry for Max. A normal day turning into a hellish one with the slip of jello. Lol, I love little Suzie. She's so adorable. THe way Max was trying to hide from her then she's all like, "Hi, Max." Too cute. and her comment to Warrick. Heehee. Man, what a total GSR moment. I'm not a fan, but it was so obvious, Catherine even noticed. Not that she wouldn't, 'cause c'mon, this is Catherine, we're talking about here. Speaking of Catherine. Man, she was just full of giggles and snickers. There wasn't very many scenes with Nick and Greg in it.

WOOOWOOOO!! Oh, Hodges, you're too silly. what happened to the cynical b@$t@rd we all loved and hated? Lol
  • Cath finally has a chance to laugh this season...

    9.5
    "Superb"
Bodies piling up in the morgue. So I liked that there was more on the miniature killer, but I don’t feel that it is over…something tells me that something else is going to happen with that this season. My favorite was the guy with the worst luck in the world (X-Files did something close). I was laughing so hard at Cath when she was laughing at the crime scene. Been there, done that. There is so much stress with that job sometimes something that is only a little bit funny can just crack you up to the point you are crying. And seeing a guy try tom dump a body and get stuck in the cement was funny. I also liked the little flirting where Sara knew something and was teasing Gris about it. Cute…
  • What, they couldn't afford Kevin Spacey?

    8.0
    "Great"
I was a bit disappointed with the conclusion. I mean with all the build up and anticipation for the serial killer since the season opener, and it turns out to be a handyman trying to do God's work? I was expecting more. Also, anyone else see the parallel between Doll and Spacey's character from Se7en? Brass even threw out a John Doe reference when talking to Max. Still a good episode, and I loved Max's haplessness (Hilarious), but I wish they would have concluded the miniature case better. Oh yeah, anyone else catch the significance of the doll pictures in each model? Hint: What was the killer's last name? He wanted to be caught.
  • Another serial killing and a man found in odd circumstances create an interesting CSI episode.

    7.8
    "Good"
The guy with the worst luck ever was on of the funniest CSI cases I\'ve seen. I laughed all the way through, but his case seemed oddly paired with the other more serious miniture serial killings. Overall I loved how the story unfolded. (Spoilers ahead)

I think the other case was good, but it had some flaws keeping me from giving the episode two thumbs up. First of all, I think they could have devoted more time to explaining the ongoing miniture serial killings. The guy established his motive as getting rid of liars, but I wish they gave us more explaination of how he knew these people. After devoting so much air time to this case, I would have loved to know every detail. But I know this doesn\'t happen in every case. And, as I said, I don\'t think the light hearted accident man was the best pairing of cases for this episode.

Overall, solid episode. I am certainly curious as to what is weighing on Grissom\'s mind. Is his depressing job finally getting to him? Is he contemplating his sabbatical? Hope to find out soon!
  • As bad as it was... I was laughing harder than Catherine.

*Warning, spoiler is included, sort of*

WOW! I was slightly shocked when I heard the killer say he was born in Ames Iowa. Thats not too far from where I go to college.

This was a very... interesting... episode. I seriously spent half the time laughing and the other half going... really, what is this guy going to say next?

The miniature killer was well done, and I enjoyed the huge display of miniatures in the workshop area. I wonder if one could buy the reaper they had there, it looked awesome!

I think they did a pretty good job writing this episode, but it really wasn't in character for the show with the poor guy that was so accident prone he killed about everyone he touched.

All in all, I think it was a great episode, and perhaps something similar can be done later on as an April fools special... with less murder? just more mayhem...
  • miniature killer strikes again...

The team investigates the murder of a man that was killed in the stunning bath that is used to stun chickens before they are slaughtered. A scaled-down model is found that depicts the murder exactly. So, this was another minature killer episode, which is interesting. This episode also gave me a good laugh when Catherine saw the man stuck in the cement. That was pretty funny. Overall, this is one of the better CSI episodes and it had a good continuation of the minature killer story line, which is getting no where. They still can't figure out who the miniature killer is.
  • How could you wreck such a promising episode start & story arc in the same show?

    6.0
    "Fair"
Now, don't get me wrong. This show has a great opening. How can you not enjoy the guy stuck in concrete trying to dispose of his accidentally killed wife. And the little girl was superb when she should have been irritating. And the banter between Max & Brass as Jim tries to discover his name was excellent.

However, this episode wasn't about this. It was about resolving the issue of the scale model killer, and frankly it did not deliver. No clever forensics, just some photo imaging software & a quick search on the internet. No proper motive, just a morbid, lonely railway modeller. Poor, on so many levels. Not to mention the practicalities involved in making your own molds to do this type of modelling. It just did not hang together.

You could tell it wasn't going well for the writer/director when they were reduced to staging a suicide on webcam at the end of the programme just to get some tension.

I do not think I have been so disappointed in a TV programme in a long time.

And I may have missed it, but what was the significance of the picture of the doll?
  • Grissom finds yet another small scale model in a crime scene

    5.3
    "Mediocre"
Honestly, I think this episode was a little anti-climatic. I thought the finding of this seriel killer would be more climatic like when they found the Strip Strangler in season 1, I just didn\'t feel like I was watching CSI, it felt like another crime show that didn\'t make any sense. Okay episode, not my favorite but as always, the acting was awesome
  • Memorable, a highlight in s.7

    9.8

I really liked loco motives! It's very different from usual CSI episodes. I absolutely loved the "Max plot" When he in the beginning said to Cathrine "Lady, the best day I've ever had is worse than the worst day you've ever imagined." I didn't believe him for a second, but as it turned out, he might actually have a point! I felt so sorry for the guy, he accidentally and unintentionally killed his wife and neighbor. It is so horrible but the whole storyline is still (feel awful to say this, but) pretty hilarious. Talk about bad luck.

Then we have the whole miniature killer plot, which kinda speaks for it self when it comes to quality. After the third murder is committed on a young man found in a stun bath at a poultry processing plant they catch the apparent killer.
  • Third episode involving the miniature killer..

A man is found dead electrocuted in stun bath at a poultry processing plant. When Grissom and Greg arrive at the scene, they discover a miniature replica of the crime scene. Catherine and Brass investigate a case where a man is found stuck in the cement, with a dead woman lying near him. The man refuse to talk and the cement damaged his fingerprints so they can’t get his identity. Warrick and Nick find a woman stuck in an oven and green jell-o all over her apartment. Nice moment when Warrick question a little girl who has information about the case. Also, we see Grissom becoming fixated on solving the miniature cases..

But at least for me, many things just didn't make any sense. As usual, I'm probably the only one that can't understand some of these quirks in the story line.

Bumbling Max Sullivan made for the unusually funny story line. Max's "bad day" started when he was a kid and killed his grandmother by putting his chair on her oxygen tube. And he ran his daughter over at one point. On this particular morning, he breaks a bowl of jello and accidentally stabs his wife in the heart with a broken piece of the glass, then follows that up by accidentally knocking the neighbor into the wall phone, killing her. Oh, let's not forget that he got stuck in cement while trying to dump his wife's body, after his car broke down on the way to do it. Or the fact that he was exposed by two words from a little girl: "Hi, Max." You know, young children make the best witnesses. Being too young to request a lawyer or to be scared of what might happen if you expose killers really works well for the cops, don't you think? I had to laugh at Catherine throughout this case. She just couldn't control herself through the "horrible and funny" stories. Even Grissom thought it was funny at the beginning. Getting Gil to laugh at a crime scene is not the easiest task. The main story, though, was about Ernie Dell. Gil was finally able to locate the miniature killer. Stressed after not capturing him the first two times he killed, I'm sure a little bit of Grissom is relieved now. But only a very tiny bit. Gil likes justice, and he likes having his questions answered, which might be a little tough now that Dell is dead. I'm not going to run through everything that led up to the killer's being caught. But I do want to bring up quite a few pieces of this story that either didn't make sense or remain open. I really don't know if I should make the assumption that this story line is complete now, but it certainly appears to be the end.

    — Obviously, Ernie had a keen sense of detail; but there's no way he could have worked out the details of the live webcast at the end, right? I mean, he sends an e-mail to Grissom, who just happens to be right there to open it at the same time that the squad is sent out to get him, and then Dell kills himself on camera right before they find him? My mind can't even process how this could have happened. — Is it me or are the lab techs just not up to par this year? How come Grissom had to sit down with the video shot of the perp walking up to the house to see the back of the jacket? In all this time, no one else was able to get this shot for him? — When questioned about how the scale models got to the scene of the crimes, Ernie states that he sells them anyway he can and they could have been anywhere, with anyone. Brass releases him and then appears to legitimately question if he really was the wrong guy. Did Brass really believe that? I mean, I can certainly fathom that the guy made models and sold them, but exact scale models of random houses that became crime scenes? — When Brass was in Ernie's house and we got a glimpse at the models there, one of the scenes looked remarkably like the kids in the alley pounding on Greg. But then there was the model of the person that appeared to be pushed off of a roof and then decapitated. I don't remember that one happening. Was the alley beating just some random coincidence, or could Dell have been involved in some way? — I get the link behind why Izzy and Raymundo got killed. But how was the second murder with the cancer-ridden lady linked to all of this? I don’t think I understand how she fit into this equation. — The last question I'll ask is this: What was up with the picture of the dead doll? It was in all three crime scenes and Grissom himself questions it, but I didn't see one thing that gave it some meaning when it was all over. A buddy has already suggested to me that "doll" and "dell" are awfully close, but that doesn't seem like a plausible explanation to me. Am I wrong? So, this could be the final straw for Gil — the case that puts him over the edge and forces him to take a leave of absence. I'm sure that after searching long and hard for this guy, only to have him commit suicide at the end, was not an outcome that gives very much closure to the situation. I suppose it's better than not finding him at all, but you know Grissom would have wanted to sit him down and get in his head.
  • A mediocre ending to a brilliant plot.

The way this episode was portrayd, it seemed like the mini-model plot had come to an end with the death of a man obsessed with creating fantasy model worlds. I enjoyed this twisted approach to the world of crime scene investigation, as I found it fascinating that each and every aspect of the crime scene was recreted to the last detail. That is why, they misconception of it all being over with a mild ending, suicide, was disappointing. Basically, the only thing worthwhile in this episode was the story of the most unfortunate man ever, which Catherine made the more hilarious.
  • Lovely episode. I can't wait for the rest of the season. The mini crime scene replica was amazing.

There were three different cases worked in this episode, which surprised me, because I thought there would only be one or two. I was also surprised that the poultry proccessing plant was the one with the mini crime scene replica. I thought it was going to be the one with womans head in the gas stove. But it wasn\'t. I like when CSI is unpredictable, to me anyways.

I loved the atmosphere in the begining of the episode, it wasn\'t how it normally is, dark and mysterious. It was hilarious and entertaining. It\'s great when they decide to switch it up. I thought the most entertaining one was the one with Max stuck in the cement. He refused to give up his name, and the result of the case was great. He just happened to be a very unlucky man, in the wrong place at the wrong time.
  • The funniest episode this year.

I loved Catherine in this episode. She was hillarious. She wouldn't stop laughing at Max, and it was funny, but I felt really bad for him. He had terrible luck. There was a definate link to the Paul Milander cases because he sounded exactly the same when reading off the suicide script, and he killed himself. I felt so bad for Grissom watching that video of him doing it, too. I was excited for the finale of the mini crime scene serial killer, since I was waiting for that moment for weeks. I was cracking up when Suzie called Warrick a giant. He is pretty tall. She was the cutest little kid. Overall, Loco-Motives was an excellent episode, and I would recommend it to anyone who hasn't seen it.
  • Not quite up to par

This episode wasn't what I was expecting at all when it came to the reoccurring theme of the miniature killer story line. The end reveal of who the killer was seemed far to anticlimactic for my tastes. I left the episode with the feeling that there had to be more to the miniatures then what was revealed. I think the writers left one too many plots holes in the storyline that didn't quite connect the dots to the motivations behind each of the killer's victims. Maybe this episode will redeem itself in my eyes further along in the season when more information is possibly given.
