As usual Ted Danson is excellent. In this episode he gives yet another in a long line of great performances. I like the fact that DB is a family man because the scenes where he is dealing with his personal life are a great addition to the show rather than a distraction. The reason why I am giving this episode only an average rating is because I felt there were many problems. The first being the basketball coach. Could the coach be any more of a contrived character than he was? Give me a break please. The opening scene made it crystal clear who the killer was. When the coach overstepped his authority and had the president and the booster kicked out it could not have been more obvious that one of them was the killer. Also Charlie Russell's girlfriend was another contrivance (But she is BEAUTIFUL!). A sex therapist/prostitute? Mistress Z?!. Come on! The whole thing about the coach enjoying acting and being treated like a horse just freaked me out. People are very frightening, aren't they? "Pick and Roll" is not a terrible episode, but at the same time it is not one of my favorites. Oh well, they can't all be killers.
When a coach of a basketball team is murdered things get personal for Russell when his son becomes a suspect because he assaulted the coach hours before his death. The CSI's have to go through a long list of suspects because everyone at one point wanted him dead. When Russell believes his sons new girlfriend Vanessa is the killers he learns that she is actually a hooker but didn't tell his son after she broke up with him.In the end they find the killer who turns out to be Rob Austin who killed the coach because he wouldn't play a certain player.
