The main reason why this episode is worth watching is for the return of William Peterson. While he only has a few short minutes of screen time, it's great to see the man who made CSI one of the greatest television crime dramas ever back in town. As for the rest of the episode, I did enjoy it, but I felt it could have been better. Marlie Matlin is always a reliable guest star. Her performace here (and in a previous episode of CSI: NY.) works well. I was not blown away by the episode's main plot, but I liked it.moreless
  • The mention of Grissom and the show bounces back.

    9.0
    "Superb"
Lets be honest, the past two seasons and the second half of S9 are average, which for CSI isn't good enough because it has always achieved excellence and ground-breaking, innovative episodes (Grave Danger, Ch-Ch-Changes etc). And yes, S11 has been back on the up, but this episode (which I truly believe was due to Grissom returning) was fantastic in every way!

Firstly, writing. It was back up to its old standards, well done whoever wrote this because the thought of Grissom really inspired so seriously good story writing.

Secondly, Catherine, Sara & Nick. Catherine has a sparkle in her eye once again, she seemed happy. Which Catherine hasn't this whole season so far. Sara I love dearly and the small look into her and Grissom's relationship really helped with character progression for Sara, their relationship has needed to be discussed for a long time now. Nick - I suppose it wasn't really Nick as it was Catherine, Sara and Nick behaving like a family again (I don't know why Greg wasn't included.) It's just that little thing hardcore fans notice such as the fact that Nick has met Grissom's mother beforehand... family, people, family. CSI is one big family and what I think has been missing is the glue that holds this family together, Grissom. Ray doesn't fit in and Greg is being ignored (thats the writers fault clearly), but Grissom's small return really helped. I don't think anyone understands how much I want him back.

Anyway, great episode! Really great episode!moreless

I have no doubt this is one of the best episodes for the current season, but I think this is receinving more points that what it really deserves, for me the case was very entertaining, the devalopment was incredible too, but, I did not like the true about this case, I think they again ruined a very good episode with a silly motive for a murder, however it was very good, but in my opinion, this season has had few episodes better than this one, two examples would be "11x04 sqwueegel" or "11x12 A kiss before frying", even thought, I think this episode diserves third place, I also have to say that I really enjoyed the surprese at the end of the episode.

  • Sara investigates a bombing at a deaf community foundation celebration where she is attending with her mother-in-law, Betty Grissom, who fans will remember is also deaf. A protege of Betty's is a suspect and this puts Betty and Sara at odds, briefly.moreless

This is truly one of the best episode in years on CSI. Jorja is superb throughout, and carries the episode well with excellent support from Catherine, Nick, Brass, and Hodges. Greg and Ray are in it to a lesser extent. The case is interesting, and the killer not obvious to me at all. The tone of the show is spot on throughout, and the writing excellent. The guest cast is outstanding! Marlee Matlin is great, and Grissom's mother is perfectly cast in Phyllis Frelich.
It's a nice peek into the deaf community culture, and an exposition to find out more about Gil and Sara's marriage. All questions are asked and answered to my satisfaction, and I couldn't be happier with how it all played out. I truly could not find anything wrong with this episode. It certainly is in my top 3. The final scene is one for the ages. Grissom, Sara, and GSR fans will treasure it. And, having Grissom's mom in it as well, gives it a true 'family' feel. It's a beautiful scene, superbly written and acted. I fear we won't see Grissom for a while, but after seeing this, I take some comfort knowing that he and Sara are both happy. Hopefully, he will continue to be mentioned in future episodes, and will possibly pop in for another visit. :)moreless

We finally get an update about Grissom and his current job! Obviously he is in Peru working on some project for the government.

It was definitely a hard day for Sara. Not only did she find out about Gil and Julia but also she had to cope with her strict mother-in-low. But at the end their relations seemed better than ever.

One of the best moments: Hodges' monologue about Grissom's sex life in front of Sara. Amazing;)

I didn't believe that Julia can be responsible, she was an obvious red-herring but I also didn't suspect the interpretor to be involved. The case itself was quite interesting.

I liked Nick's concern about Sara and Ray after the bomb in Julia's office went off. I would love it if Greg and Catherine were more involved in the investigation but Sara's online conversation with Grissom made up for it:) We have been waiting too long for him to show up again.

For me Grissom was always heart and soul of this show so I have to give this episode 10.

More Gil Grissom (and his mother too)in future please!moreless

    • Grissom: So anyway, how was your week? What'd you do? Sara: Well, I almost got blown up twice. I accused your ex-girlfriend of murder. And, oh, I-I told off your mother. Grissom: Oh, good. You kept busy. Sara: Yeah. See what happens when you stand me up?

    • Sara: (about Julia) She also made it perfectly clear that she would not continue with the interview until I was out of the room. What did Brass say? Catherine: What do you think? He wants you off the case. I said no. I told him that you're a professional, and completely capable of being objective. Sara: Thanks. Catherine: You are capable of being professional and objective, right? Sara: Yes, I am.

    • Sara: (about Mrs. Grissom) She's very hard to get close to. She questions everything. She's got to be right about everything. She's emotionally unavailable.

      Catherine (chuckles): Sorry.

      Sara: What?

Catherine: Oh, it's... you just described Grissom. Like mother, like son.

    • Ray: (about the burned body) Gonna be hard to burrito him like that. David: I could put him in the passenger seat of the van. Then we could use the car pool lane. Ray: Always looking for the silver lining, eh, David? David: Yeah. That's me.

    • William Peterson makes his first appearance (phone call & video chat with Sara) since the Season 9 episode "One to Go (1)". Originally, his appearance was supposed to be a surprise so CBS wasn't allowed to have him in promos. Hence, he wasn't credited either in the episode (condition for his return). However, CTV (the Canadian station that airs CSI) accidentally included Peterson in their promos starting January 27.
