This episode has a really cool beginning, although quite disgusting. Starts off with a guy enjoying a relazing afternoon in his apartment, reading, and he hears a strange noise coming from above. When he pulls back his lamp shade, maggots fall onto his bed - horrible. Turns out theres a body upstairs, and maggots have been eating away at the dead flesh.

When Alex arrives, it is discovered that the woman is actually still alive, and is rushed to hospital. The team discover that she testified at a trial 3 years prior, for an inmate who is just about to be released on parole. Horatio finds this suspicious and sets out to prove that the inmate had a hand in the woman's attack, and deny him his parole, leaving him in prison for an even longer period of time.

A woman is found beaten almost to death the maggots that were parasitic to her, is the only thing that kept her alive. The rapest used a 2x4 and expected to kill her. A man that she testified against is believed to have something to do with it. The man that raped her before broke both her arms and had her eye ball litterally out of the socket. She was in a defense class. He paid off his C.O. to kill her. The son brought him money to protect him from the guards. The maggots ate away all infections, thus keeping her alive.

A woman is found apparently dead in an abandoned apartment. She's been brutally beaten with a piece of wood. She's discovered because the guy in the apartment below who was just settling down with a copy of Playmate was interrupted by a shower of maggots. It's a heck of an opening, and gets better when we discover that, despite the maggots feeding on her headwound, she's not actually dead! The maggots have been eating the bacteria in the wound and this is what kept her alive! I love the minds of the CSI writers.

From there we enter the world of the parole hearing. The victim was raped by a guy who's now up for parole. Her being out of the way helps his case, but who might have carried out the attack? It's cleverly written to keep you guessing all the way through and the ending is very satisfying.

I was annoyed that it was written for H to realise the body wasn't dead. Alexx is an ME after all, and even though there's a reference to her wishing she'd noticed because she's trained to do so, there are too many of these scenes these days, where H notices something obvious that it should be left for Alexx to tell him.

It's a good episode though and very well plotted.
