Episode Summary

During a typical morning rush hour in downtown Miami, an unseen sniper chooses three victims at random and opens fire, killing each with a single shot to the head. Horatio and his crew rush to the scene, which is quickly mobbed by TV news reporters eager to spin the murders into a national story. The initial investigation doesn't reveal much, as there were no witnesses and little evidence remains. But the case heats up when the sniper strikes again, killing two more innocent people.moreless

  • Arguably the best episode of the first season.

KILL ZONE was definitely the best episode in the first half of Season 1 of CSI:Miami, if not the best episode of the entire first season. The action-packed episode is so exciting that it constantly keeps viewers alert and paying attention, especially during the last scene when Horatio is in the sniper's scope. The episode reminded me exactly why I watch this series - because of the intense action and nonstop thrills, all combined with good scientific techniques (even if this type of technology is hard to find, let alone if it exists). Since it's the first season, we didn't see too many of those one liners of Horatio and we were treated to a great episode, too.moreless

  • My Favorite! Very Intense!

A sniper in a gilly suit on top of a skyscraper, what could go wrong?! 3 people are caught in the crossfire and who would guess that this guy is professionally trained when the wounds are in the "Kill Zone" from over 600 yards (6 Football Fields) away. Very intense at the end when Horatio's life hangs in the balance when he is on the wrong end of the sniper's barrel. The question is, are the conditions right? If so, then the death of a lead character would decide the fate of this gripping television thriller! Will Horatio survive? Or will he fall victim to a shot in the "Kill Zone?!"moreless

A sniper killed 3 people in downtown rush hour. The kill zone is right above your left eye, in between the eyes, and in your right eye. Witnesses say they heard 1 shot and screetching tires. The 4th vic was shot in the temple. The sniper shot a tourist from Oklahoma. 2 shooters. One was on the ground and the other in the 10 story building. It has to be the Marine Corps b/c they're the best snipers. The young boy was trying to protect his father b/c he thought the 4 guys had a gun so he shot at them.moreless

  • A tense episode - with a sniper on the loose anything could happen.

    9.1
    "Superb"
A sniper takes out three innocent people in downtown Miami and of course the city responds by feeling the panic and the uncertainty that such an act fosters. The media are straight in and racking up the tension too.

The knowledge that there are people out there who are prepared to do (and have done) this kind of thing makes this a very exciting episode. A serial killer is terrifying enough, but usually will kill a few people in a particular way etc. A sniper who could be anywhere and taking out several at a time - not in alleys or deserted roads or inside buildings, but in broad daylight on busy streets - is another prospect altogether.

There is a fourth victim shot at the same time as the first three, which leads us into another case altogether - not as satisfying a storyline I thought personally - though I do want to put in a good word for Wanda de Jesus, who is fabulous as Sevilla. She's a kind of unsung heroine of the first season.

I learned a lot - I'd never heard of a gilley suit or a sand sock. It was also good to see Calleigh revealing just how smitten she is with guns. There are also a couple of good, funny exchanges between her and Horatio, which lightens the heavy atmosphere.

The final scene itself is very exciting, with Horatio himself caught in the sniper's sights. I liked the fact that having apprehended the guy, we don't actually learn his reasons for doing what he did. It feels a little more chilling not even knowing why he did it.

    A very good little episode.moreless
