  • Sort of revealing ish SPOILERS

This episode is the second of a 2 parter about Clavo Cruz. The story basically continues and the episode is about them trying to hunt him down.

The whole episode ending seems to revolve around Clavo being killed and they seem to neglect everything else like what happened to the other guns and who actually broke him out etc... The story itself isn't a great one and has loads of loose ends.

The other main thing is Eric, in this episode we realise how little we actually know about the main characters. The only thing the writers can think for him to say when he wakes up is Marisol. This shows that there isn't actually a whole lot we know about the main characters. It does leave his story wide open but I'm not sure what they're going to do with it. Either he makes a full recovery or this whole thing was done to phase him out of the show. Either way it now seems like a burden to the show.

The episode is fine but problems are there such that the team didn't actually find Cruz at all. They wee always one step behind and the only reason they got him was because he turned himself in.moreless
  • Eric didn't die, Yes, he didn't die. i would be devistated if he died

Eric is rushed to the hospital as horatio watches the doctors try to revive him. thank god that he is still alive and i love the eric calligh scene. it was touching. its too bad that eric couldn't remember that his sister died though. it was sad when he found out. when i saw that the security grard shot him i thought that he was not protecting the city of Miami, i thought that he was a trador to the whole state.having kids work a diamod shop is wierd because usually kids just sit there and watch adults stuff, and not get involved.moreless
  • Eric is rushed to the hospital, where he needs to fight for his life. In the meanwhile, the CSI team starts a round-up on Clavo Cruz and Eric's killer.

Oh boy. Oh boy oh boy oh boy! He's shot! In the head! He's never gonna be the same! EVER! This is so sad, really. This was a brilliant episode. Okay it was predictable that Horatio shot Clavo Cruz, but he needed to finish it. And that was it. Eric losing his memory, God it's so painful! Surprisingly, Horatio's first visit wasn't the most emotional, it was Calleigh's. She looked like she was going to burst into tears the whole episode! I felt so sorry for her; I mean, it's Eric! And after losing Speed... When she layed that cross in his hands, I was just... oooh :) I was touched. Ryan didn't know what to say, he just wanted to catch the guy who shot his colleague. It's like he couldn't really handle it since he attacked the suspect. Calleigh's approach is different and probably better physically. She's cold, she's plays the ice queen card and it's strange seeing that in Calleigh, you know, with the whole southern warmth and charm which she does possess. It's weird but it's like when she's hurt or she doesn't trust a person, she's ice cold. I think it looks more professional, but mentally and emotionally, it's not very good. She always pulls up those walls and she hides behind them. She may look like an open person, but she never let's anyone in. And Eric,.. well she didn't really open up to him often, but she knew he was that kind of person she could count on. Not like Horatio, he's more the father. Eric was so funny, sweet and... Cuban! It seems weird to her (even though she has seen a lot of deaths) that he of all people in the world, gets hurt. That's what this is about; good people also die. Very good episode. You need to see this, it's very exciting + great emotion-investigation balance. You could tell this was a special episode, they played more (sensitive) music. Feel free to cry at the end when Eric asks Horatio where Marisol is and he realizes that she was murdered.moreless
  • What's going on Eric? Are you still with us?

I have to say I was more interested in Eric situation and how afected the team than the crime plot this week. I also was really touched with the Eric - Cal scene at the hospital and when she put the crucifixe on his hands. I was all tears.

I’m sorry that Delko can’t remember his sister is dead, but perhaps someone could kindly point out that her spitting image is working as an ADA up in Manhattan. It might help ease the pain. It’s too early to know how this is going to play out over the rest of the season, or even the rest of the series. And in the near future, I may be talking about what a brilliant move this was on behalf of the writers, but forgive me for feeling a little ripped off at the moment. And just as an aside, how is it not a conflict of interest for the entire team to work on Eric’s case? Of course, I do get to mourn one character: Clavo. I will miss him and his back-and-forth with Horatio. Some great lines of his:

    • “You know what, my friend? You are a serious player. You could learn something from this man, pop. He never gives up, and I love that about you, Caine.”

    • “Lieutenant Caine — now my parade has officially been rained on.”

    • “Yet another startling revelation on the obvious.”

Who can blame him for having a major beef with Horatio? H made one of Clavo’s fathers disown him, and then he made the other one disown him.

Where the whole blood diamond plot came in, I’m still not sure, but I renew my objection to CSI: Miami’s strange obsession with being an issues-centered show as of late. This was almost two episodes in one, and for me, the Clavo half worked much better, mostly because it didn’t take itself too seriously. Plus, the more serious stuff tends to invite me to explore plot holes — something I’d really rather not do.moreless

I enjoyed this episode because it was about the characters in some ways. The look in Horatio's eyes when they were working on Eric was so heart breaking. You could see how much he cared about Eric and how much he still misses Marisol. I also have liked watching Horatio with Clavo Cruz they make such good enemies. My favorite part of the episode is at the end where Horatio is with Eric and Eric asks why his sister Marisol isn't there, the look on Horatio's face says how much he is in pain over losing Marisol and when Eric shed a tear was breaking my heart. I just wish that they would do an episode when Horatio would talk more about losing Marisol.moreless

  • TRIVIA (2)

    • To narrow down suspects a search was done on travel between Antwerp, Belgium and Miami. This does not exist (at least by plane) as the only US flights from Belgium originate in Zaventem (Brussels).

    • The scene that shows the outside of the jewelry store, is the same scene that was shown before CSI Speedle was shot in season 3, episode 1, Lost Son.

  • QUOTES (17)

    • Horatio: (looking at a newspaper) That's Joseph Trevi.
Natalia: He is deep in this thing. The diamond lady's attitude confirmed it. So I Googled him, turns out he's from a really wealthy family. They're like the Kennedy's over there.
Horatio: This is a Baracan newspaper.
Natalia: Look who he's standing next to.
Horatio: I see that. General Cruz. That's from 27 years ago.
Natalia: So, I did a little more digging. Turns out he left the country just a few months after this picture was taken.
Horatio: Right around the time of Clavo's birth.
Natalia: So Clavo's lost one father...
      Horatio: Maybe he found another.

    • Joseph Trevi: I told you, I don't know Clavo Cruz.
      Horatio: You're lying.
Joseph Trevi: Such a confident man.
Horatio: We ran DNA and it turns out you're his father.
      Joseph Trevi: Only by blood.

    • Valera: That is one weird looking rock.
Natalia: This is a raw diamond, it's uncut and unpolished. They don't just come out of the ground lookin' like engagement stones.

    • Frank: I swear to God when we find Clavo, it's gonna be hard not to pull the trigger myself.
Natalia: It's all that I can think about.

    • Calleigh: Excuse me, is there a place where we can give blood to CSI Delko?
Nurse: Your friend's not gonna need it any more.
Ryan: Are you saying that he's dead?
Nurse: No, no. I'm saying that he's lost too much blood. He's on plasma now, to get his volume back up.
Ryan: I'm sorry, I don't understand, is he okay, or is he not okay?
Nurse: They're doing everything they can.
Calleigh: Excuse me. Can we please just get a straight answer? Professional to professional.
Nurse: Okay. They've been trying to resessitate him for the last 11 minutes. If he doesn't respond in the next 5, they'll call it.

    • Natalia: (after Horatio finds a hidden corridor) Wow, very Indiana Jones!

    • (On the phone)
Clavo: (answering, thinking Joseph Trevi) What took you so long?
Horatio: I was visting someone in intensive care, Clavo.
Clavo: Lt. Caine. Now my parade has been officially rained on.

    • Ryan: You're using kids to cleanse conflict diamonds.
Audrey: Some of the world's most beautiful diamonds come from some very ugly places. I am merely answering a retail demand.
Natalia: Nobody wants diamonds made like this.
      Ryan: We're taking everything.
Audrey: Everything in my store is not made from conflict diamonds.
Natalia: Unfortunately for you once they've been polished, you can't tell the difference so we're going to seize it all, including the children.

    • Clavo: Decided to take you up on your offer, and turn my self in...so to speak.
Horatio: You're here because you want me to kill you.
Clavo: Yet another startling revelation on the obvious.
Horatio: I will kill you, Clavo. This ends, right now.
Clavo: I know...I know, so you take care. (raises his gun, and Horatio shoots him)
      Horatio: ...Take care, Clavo.

    • Clavo: (to General Cruz, while pointing a gun at him) You know what, my friend? You are a serious player! You could learn something from this man, pop...he never gives up! And I love that about you, Caine.
      Horatio: Clavo, put it down.
Clavo: Yeah, you're right. Violence is bad.
      Horatio: Clavo, especially for you.
Clavo: You know what, Caine, I don't think that you're in a position to negotiate. You shoot me, I shoot him, and I know you, you'd lose some major sleep over that.
      Horatio: Clavo...put it down.
Clavo: How bad do you want me dead right now, Caine?
Horatio: That's up to you, my friend.

    • (On the phone)
Clavo: You're wrong, Caine. You're wrong, cause I got you. And this cat and mouse thing is just about to start gettin' fun.
Horatio: I want you to listen to me. This is your opportunity to turn yourself in.
Clavo: Over my dead body, Caine.
Horatio: Then over your dead body it's gonna be.

    • Joseph Trevi: I mean, a million dollars doesn't make or break me, but it's the principle of the thing. You understand?
Horatio: Here's what I understand: You bankrolled Clavo, there are three dead police officers, and I have a CSI at death's door.
Joseph Trevi: And I'll make sure that I donate more to the policeman's fund next year.
Horatio: Mr. Trevi, I would be careful if I were you.
Joseph Trevi: You're the one that should be careful. The way I heard it, you gave Mr. Cruz the million, Lieutenant.
Horatio: If I were a betting man, Mr. Trevi, I would say that you've been in contact with Clavo and the payoff is diamonds.
Joseph Trevi: I'll tell you what, I'll let my lawyer take that bet.
      Horatio: And you'll both lose.

    • Eric: H, I don't remember anything.
Horatio: You were shot in the line of duty, Eric. You're in the hospital.
Eric: Where is Marisol? Where is my sister, why isn't she here?
Horatio: She's...she's ummm....(can't bear himself to say she's dead. Eric starts to cry)

    • Ryan: You shot my friend!
Tanner Wilcox: I don't know what you're talking about. (Ryan charges at him but the officer stops him) Look whatever happened, I didn't have anything to do with it.
Calleigh: You can deny it all you want but the proof is right there. You took a shooter's stance and that's why the gun shot residue ended up on your left hand instead of your right.
Ryan: (angry) When you fire a bullet, the gun powered doesn't always burn, the bullet comes out, so does gun powder, and it ends up on you.
Tanner Wilcox: Clavo said he was gonna give me a hundred grand, I'd finally get to pay my car off.
Ryan: (leans close to him) You put a bullet in my partner's brain. I don't give a damn about your car.

    • Calleigh: He's different.
Alexx: I tried to get you before you went it. Patient's with a hemotoma like Eric's, lack of oxygen, deficiants are normal.
      Calleigh: Like what?
Alexx: Compromised motor skills, slow speech...
Calleigh: He thinks that Marisol is still alive.
      Alexx ... Memory loss.
      Calleigh: So, what's gonna happen?
Alexx: It already has, honey. He just might not be the Eric we know him to be.

    • General Cruz: Promise me, you'll end this...for good
      Horatio: I promise you.

    • Natalia: You work in the 21st district court, the same one that signed off on the gun melt. You knew the route and the time.
Horatio: And you shared that with Clavo, didn't you?
Natalia: His people killed cops to get to that truck. They blew up the court house to get him out.
Cathy Gibson: I didn't know he was gonna do that. I thought th..
Natalia: (cutting her off) What? What did you think? That he was gonna be nice with a whole truck load full of guns?
Cathy Gibson: He said that he would take me to his country, we'd be royalty. And he just left me in the water to die, after all I did.
Natalia: We would call that a confession.
      Cathy Gibson: Oh, god.
Horatio: Miss Gibson, if my CSI dies, you're gonna be charged with murder.
Cathy Gibson: It's all your fault, you know, you made his father turn on him. You made him hate his own father. You ruined his life!
Horatio: Miss Gibson, Clavo is a big boy, who ruined his own life. He's a killer, who brought this on himself.

  • NOTES (4)

  • ALLUSIONS (1)

    • Natalia: Very Indiana Jones.
She makes this comment when Horatio opens the door to the secret passageway, referring to the many such passageways in the very popular Indiana Jones trilogy.
