  • When Eric Delko is found hurt in the Everglades and is rushed to the hospital, we go back in time to see how our favorite team comes together.

This has to be one of my favorite episodes in the series. We finally see what happens before the team is assembled. We get to see how Eric's, Calleigh's, and Horatio's life is like.

This was also an emotional episode too. The scene where Horatio sat next to Eric in the hospital was very sad. The first time I saw it, it made me cry. Horatio hardly ever talks about his feeling so the fact that he has opened up in this dark hour says that he is starting to show his feeling. Plus, it makes us remember lost, yet loved characters (Ray, Marisol and Speedle). We also see new characters meaning Jesse Cardoza. This was an unexpected, but enjoyable twist in the story. I only wish he was on the show from the beginning. Then there's Sully. I'm just happy he is not on the show and that Horatio kicked his butt (not literally :). All in all; great episode!!!moreless
  • OUCH!!!

    6.0
It hurts to type this since this is my favorite TV show. After the amazing "Seeing Red" ,"Dissolved" etc.,this was a MAJOR letdown! 1997 the beginning, give me a break.I hope this wasn't a "Jump the Shark" show. How much cornier could this one have gotten? Unless it's a comedy, going back in time beyond the shows' original episodes and recreating moments that didn't air in the first place is a disaster! Bruckheimer at his worst! I hope the ABC deal isn't going to affect this Classic,Great show.

Will the REAL CSI:Miami please return!!!The cast and characters are great, get back on track and keep it that way!!!moreless
  • The eighth season begins with Delko's life hanging on by a thread. As doctors try desparately to save him, we are taken back in time to 1997 and see the case that ultimately created the team.moreless

    7.0
I will start off by saying it's always good when Khandi Alexander is back on the show even if it is for a short time. I wish her return would become permanent. I do think this season started off on a positive note, but I kept asking myself a few questions like, what has happened to Delko's father? Did he actually dump his critically wounded son in a swamp? How many more gun shots to the head can Delko survive? The flashback story was entertaining, but Horatio's then partner was too much of a cliche. Good episode, but flawed also.moreless
  • As Delko's life hangs by a thread, the story takes us back to 1997 to see how the team came together.

    9.0
The flashbacks gave us some much needed insight into the characters of Horatio, Calleigh and Eric. While the case of a murdered young woman wasn't all that interesting, it was highlighted by Horatio's familiar bloodhound instincts and tenacity to pursue the truth. Calleigh was presented as a trusting charming southern belle who eagerly awaits the opportunity to put her forensic skills to good use. The most interesting character was Delko, who showed all of the makings of a good CSI but had little interest in becoming one. The most interesting thing about the episode was the scenes were exploring the already established relationship between Horatio and Delko, which kept getting stronger over time. I enjoyed the fact that the writer's managed to use the whole team and bringing back Alex's character was a real treat. My only complaint is that the writer's apparently forgot that the episode, Golden Parachute gave us a different version of how Horatio became leader of the team. Putting that factual error aside, I did like the way the writers introduced Jessie Cordoza. He came across as likable and time will tell what the writers have in store for his character.

To sum things up, this episode was a refreshing way to start the new season.moreless
  • Great Episode, but it got told said Ryan was goin' to be in the flashback but i've watched it like 4 times now and I can't see him, is he actually in it?moreless

Great Episode, but it got told said Ryan was goin' to be in the flashback but i've watched it like 4 times now and I can't see him, is he actually in it?

Also, I love the way Horatio got his sunglasses the banter between Eric and Horatio was so cute :D And also the Eric and Calleigh moments where great!

But, is it just me or does Natalia's lab coat look like is had 'FBI' written on it in chalk? Looked a little cheap tbh! And last but definitely not least how hot is Jessie Cardoza(Eddie Cibrian) :P Can't wait to see episode 2 when he takes off his shirt :Dmoreless

  • TRIVIA (3)

    • Goof: At the end of the episode, Cardoza says the chief wants Horatio to head the new CSI unit. However, in the first episode of the show (Golden Parachute), it is said that Megan was the original head of CSI, and that Horatio was promoted only a few months before, after Megan took an extended leave following her husband's death.

    • Goof: After Eric pulls the car out of the water with his tow truck, when he opens the trunk there is no evidence of his having gotten wet, despite the car having been submerged up to its rear bumper, and well beyond arm's reach from dry land.

    • Goof: Eric is driving the towtruck and there are LED lights on it when LED lights were not out in 1997. The next shot of the tow truck shows the proper rotary flashing lights that would have been used in 1997.

  • QUOTES (7)

    • (at the past)
Horatio: You ever think about being a cop?
Eric: Come on, me a cop? No, man.
Horatio: I'm serious, Eric. See, this work is about observation, and you have a great eye for detail. Why don't you go to the academy, let me put in a good word for you, get your badge, and then come and find me?
Eric: People make a lot of promises, and in my experience, they don't usually show up after that.
Horatio: Eric, I'm different; I'll be here.

    • Horatio: Eric, I know how hard...how hard you're fighting right now, and I know how easy it would be to slip away and be with Marisol. I think about that, too. But I don't want you to do it. I'm not ready. I'm not ready for you... I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I'm sorry. It's just that I... that I-I lost her, and... and Ray... and Speed. You're-you're all I've got left, Eric. So...I-I want you to do what we always do. I want you to fight. That's what I want you to do. That's what I need you to do. I'll be right here.

    • (at the past)
Frank: I spend half my days on paperwork. It would be nice if we computerized all this stuff.
Horatio: Then what would we complain about?

    • (at the past)
Calleigh: I'm wondering if someone could point me in the direction of Lt. Fred Dorsey. He's in Special Investigations Unit.
Parker: How about I point you to my unit, and you can work the night shift with me?
Cardoza: I'm sure your wife would take issue with that, Parker.
Parker: You science guys. Always the buzz kill.
Cardoza: Sorry about that. They're stuck in the Stone Age.

    • (About Locard's exchange principle)
Arnold Hollings: How come I've never heard of this on tv?
Horatio: Because guns make the news and science doesn't.

    • Eric: (to Calleigh) I just have one question. Do you want to give me your phone number now, or later?
Calleigh: (laughs) Does that really work?

    • Horatio: Why are you smiling?
Calleigh: This is what I was hoping it would be like when I got here.
      Horatio: Me too.
