  • After making a long trip by boat to the US a Cuban refugee runs up a Miami beach only to be killed when he steps on a land mine. While investigating the scene, Frank accidentally steps on another mine and puts his life in jeopardy.

This is probably the most disappointing and ridiculous episode of the season. A few questions I would like to ask. First how did the planter of the land mines on the beach know where the refugee was going to step? Also, when Horatio shot the man at close range in the back of the head, shouldn't Horatio have been splattered with blood and brain matter? Finally, what was the point of that stupid subplot involving Delko? CSI: Miami is a great show but "Throwing Heat" is definitely an episode not worth remembering. Let's hope the next episode is better!

  • the team investigates who set a land mine on the beach and why?; delko gets a lawsuit

i found this to have a very intriguing and very original ending and episode synopsis b/c i havent seen another crime show do this yet..poor frank..he didnt know he was close to the mine but of course they helped him just fine..the road to finding out who set this up led them through many twists and turns and i was kind of shocked who set it up and his reasons for setting it up..then as always there is another case..spoiler..delko is trying to be a good citizen and for it he gets in trouble..the guy ends up dead..and then the wife was just so evil b/c she wanted to sue him still..and she could get away w/ it..how evil!
  • Frank on the land mine!

i couldn't stop laughing when Frank was standing on the land mine - when he was rescued he didn't even have one mark on him!!!!!Not even a burn - and i loved it when he said it was getting hot! Also surely Horatio would have been asked to move away from a potential dangerous situation as the mine could have blown up at any time, yet he was standing right next to Frank all the time talking to him. Frank didn't even topple off the mine, i had been hoping he would have giving him a nice long stay in hospital.
  • This was a fine episode until the end SPOILERS

This episode is based around a land mine that killed a Cuban refugee on the beach. This leads the team on to discover an assassin.

Usually I would be annoyed that there is yet again a "bigger picture" based around what should be a murder and nothing more. Actually, in this episode it's fine. It works quite well and there are no complaints from me about it.

The beginning of the episode was fantastic with Frank stepping on the mine and it was so well done.

The really dumb part of this episode is the Delko story.

His story is that he is an off duty police officer who goes to a bar asking for help in a case. He sees a "fight" between a husband and wife and he gets involved. This story line is so ludicrous it ruins the episode and ruins a bit of the show and here's why. The story about an off duty CSI that just came off court testifying and goes to help then getting attacked sounds familiar right? It's exactly the same as what happened to Greg in CSI Vegas. Secondly, the woman was very dim and she does lousy cons - she has a history. The bartender would have testified against that woman at the end of the episode. These two coupled together would have destroyed the woman's case. There is no way Delko would have been found guilty. Also, Miami PD would protect Delko because he witnessed a fight and helped as a police officer. There is no reason he would have settled and it is the stupidest story line ever.

    This ruined the episode.
  • Frank steps on a landmine and Eric gets suckered into a lawsuit

    7.5
    "Good"
Both Eric and Horatio show their morals are good in this episode - Eric basically takes a fall for the sake of the department and Horatio refuses to take cover when Frank is trapped on the landmine. But, you know what? The best part of the epi for me was when Horatio laughed! It's only happened once before - in Crime Wave - and it's lovely! Almost like a relief that he can be happy sometimes...more please, writers!
  • Not good

The landmine story was ok but the reasons for the murders was bad. Eric getting mixed up in the con game was sorry. The actress playing the con-woman made me want to throw something thru the tv. Could they have written a more annoying person? And can someone please tell me if the writers have run out of reasons for murder?
  • The underlying story may have been a little far-fetched with Frank stepping on a landmine but I think you needed to look past it and concentrate on the emotional change of some characters.

    "Superb"
The key issue in this episode was not the fact that the landmine story was a tad lame or the story concerning Delko was infuriating it was the point that H showed great emotion in his loyalty to Frank in staying with him throughout his ordeal and Delko showing loyalty to the department - taking a deal with the disgusting Carmen rather than jeopardise the department [surely the department should pay this if he is protecting them - plus bearing in mind he was married to his sister, why isn't H helping Delko with this?]. Delko also showed his vulnerable side in his wish to protect a lady from injury as well as his stupid side in thinking she was a lady! However, if anything came out it was that both of them are decent people!

The series continues to be strong and this episode was an excellent one but probably more than anything it will be pivotal in the emotional change in H and Delko. At least ... I hope it will!

Can't wait until next week to find out!
  • Tripp steps on a land-mine, a base-ball player is trying to get rid of some competition and Erik gets hit by a law-suit

    9.8
    "Superb"
The episode starts with a land-mine blowing up on Miami beach....and develops into one of the best of this season so far.

The teaser sequence, is nicely put together, having Tripp step on that land-mine was a great idea,....as was the solution to it. H sticks around, refusing to leave his friend alone and by doing so....keeping him calm. I was afraid that TPTB would have Horatio diffuse the land-mine..which would have been corny....but they did not, and that was good.

The main plot with the baseball player was entertaining. The storyline with Delko was good up to the very end, where he refuses to go to court, to keep the lab out of scrutiny...because of 'Rio'. Even though that is a nic tie back to the beginning of the season it seems quite un-realistic....

Still, overall, very good episode. Keep it up, season 5 needs episodes like this one.
  • Some of the storylines of this series are too unbelievable. C'mon... a murderer using a landmine on a large beach to kill one specific person?

Who can really believe that the intended murder victim would step directly on a few planted landmines over a large beach area? What are the odds? Landmines are meant to kill indescrimminantly, not an individual target. At the end of the show as the other killer is about to assassinate the businessman, Horatio "magically" appears behind him point blank, without the killer knowing he's there. Does "H" have the ability to be so silent that he can get that close without a trained killer hearing him? To me, the show has gone downhill since "Speed" left the show. His replacement Wolfe is just annoying, and the rest of the characters are dull and pompous. The only character I like is Det. Frank Tripp.
  • H proves he is loyal whether a cop or as a person!

    8.5
    "Great"
H proves that he is indeed a very loyal person

Not just as a cop. As Frank's life hangs in

The balance as he steps on a landmind as Frank tells

H to get away but H says not a chance as

Also like on reviewer says, he should more emotion as well.

Didn't like the Delko lawsuit as well. But a good show

    Nonetheless.
  • After Frank steps on a land mine at a crime scene Horatio and the Bomb Technicians must deactivate the bomb. Delko gets hit with a large law suit after investigating a domestic dispute.

I love this episode, I love the part where Tripp is on the mine and he tells Horatio to take cover and Horatio says he is staying. It shows how strong their friendship is and it was cute them laughing about after. I was not fond of the Delko part of the episode, I found it stupid. It was also fun seeing Victor Webster play one of the bad guys, I am a fan of his too. I thought Horatio showed a little more emotion in this episode but I think he has beening showing more emotions since Marisol died. One of the best episodes this season.
