Wavecrest High School Class of 1990 reunion weekend is in process. A man in the bathroom is being clubbed in the head.
Horatio is at the scene. Alexx looks over the body - repeated blunt force trauma to the head. Also, pre-mortem bruising on the neck. The dead man is Patrick Hale. Horatio finds a bloody champagne bottle, possible weapon, thrown away on top of the trash. There is smeared blood on the floor. Patrick was prom king, student body president and quarterback.
Horatio gets a phone call and asks Frank to take over. Horatio arrives at another crime scene. A man is down, two gun shots, through and through. It's Bob Keaton, the man who had killed Raymond, Horatio's brother, but Horatio had found was released and, just between Horatio and Bob, Raymond is still alive. There are no casings, and lots of powder on the tables and walls. Eric arrives, but someone has already processed this crime scene. Killers clean, not process.
Ryan arrives at the reunion. The body is being rolled away. Patrick's wife Jennie, the prom queen and cheerleader, asks to see the body. She notices that there is a hickey on his neck and gets upset that after fifteen years of marriage he is still cheating. Krystal Sneed, the organizer, is cooperative. She gives the name of a girl that Patrick had made out behind the girlfriend's back. Ryan talks with Michelle Day, one of the undesirables. She first denies, but after Ryan asks for DNA sample which might match the DNA swabbed around the hickey, she admits to fooling around with him. Still, he was a scank, so she slapped him and left him in the bathroom.
Alexx is about to post Bob when Horatio enters. He notices that there is a void in the blood on Bob's chest, just the size if he had been wearing a wire. There is a fingerprint in the adhesive. Horatio dusts to get the print. There is someone watching them from above. John Hagen, Raymond's old partner, is there, upset that the man who had killed his partner was out. Horatio tells him to go away, that he doesn't know what is going on either, but it is probably to Hagen's best that he didn't know either.
Eric is searching for a match on the print. They find a match - David Park, GS 14, federal agent with government clearance. Horatio speaks with Park. Park will not speak. Park did not kill, but Park did process. All he can say is that this case doesn't exist, and nor does he. Park says there is nothing good in waking ghosts, but Horatio doesn't agree.
Alexx tells Ryan that the quarterback's COD was blunt force trauma to the head, and hands to him a note found in the pocket which says, "I KNOW ABOUT THE CURVE YOU'RE A DEAD MAN". The paper has a perforated edge, dot matrix printer paper, which no one uses these days. Ryan returns to the reunion and takes photos of the yearbook messages. Calleigh and Ryan ask Kevin Banks to come in for questioning, because he wrote the note, back in high school. Ryan had extracted and analyzed the ink and determined the ink was manufactured in 1990. The handwriting matched the message Kevin had written in Krystal Sneed's yearbook. Kevin admits that Patrick had stolen a science mid-term test and set the curve making the other students' grades bad, including Kevin, who was kept out of Vanderbilt. Patrick had apparently kept the note and shown it to Kevin at the reunion, which ended in a little argument. But Kevin is doing much better than Patrick now, so no need for revenge.
The champagne bottle has some white particles on it, which got there before the blood.
Eric is going to analyze the powder found at Bob's murder scene. Yelina comes in to talk to Horatio, confused that the man who had killed her husband was loose. Horatio promises to tell her when he has something real to tell her.
Horatio looks at Bob's body again in the morgue, and notices a pattern on his bullet wound, a muzzle stamp. The killer made a close second shot, the gun was still hot from the first shot and made the burn mark on the skin. The muzzle stamp is unique to each gun, so it may be used to identify the killer.
Calleigh talks to a man without a name tag. He didn't go to the high school. He has a mortality clock. The man sells life insurance at class reunions. He had sold a policy to Jennie Hale just before Patrick was killed. But before pulling Jennie in, more forensic proof will be needed.
Ryan tells Calleigh that the bottle had sand from the Bahamas. The senior trip was to the Bahamas. Ryan stops Krystal, who is carrying the Time Capsule box away. She gladly opens it for him. The list includes Dube Champagne, same as the murder weapon, which is missing from the box. The jar of beach sand from the Bahamas is broken. Only one other person has the key to the Time Capsule.
Michelle Day shows the key to Calleigh and Ryan. She had opened the Time Capsule and taken out the champagne bottle before the hook up with Patrick, breaking the Beach in the Jar in the process. But she left the bottle on the floor unopened. She is frustrated that they are coming after her because of her reputation. She had left high school behind, unlike many others, like Dan, the life insurance man. Dan Winslet dropped out after his freshman year, and still shows up at the reunions. They ask him in. Ryan finds smeared blood on the bottom of Dan's mortality clock. Dan had, during freshman year, been taped up and shoved into a locker by Patrick. He still has skin graft. Patrick had ruined Dan's life. Dan wanted an apology from Patrick, which he couldn't get, and then clubbed Patrick with the bottle.
Eric found in the powder traces of cocaine in a special mixture, which belongs to Julio Pena. Horatio and Eric go after Julio. Julio tried to make a deal with Bob, but it didn't go down. Julio has an associate, Luis Rivera. They try to take Julio in, but Julio is shot down before they can. Horatio and Eric go after Luis at the beach. He has a gun, and is taken in. His gun's muzzle stamp matches the gun that killed Bob. But Luis says he didn't kill his boss Julio.
The bullet from Julio is 22 caliber, long rifle shot, not a match to Luis' gun. Julio also has ulcerations, oral, stomach and intestinal. There are burns and lesions on his hands. Horatio asks Alexx for a CBC, complete blood count. Horatio thinks he wasn't just killed, but assassinated.
Yelina looks up articles related to Raymond. She is disturbed that Bob Keaton was released under special circumstances.
Alexx gives Horatio the CBC results, and the lymphocytes are alarmingly low, and coupled with the ulcerations, it means Julio was exposed to radiation at serious levels.
Horatio and Eric arrive at Julio's place, which is first tested for radiation, and comes clean. Eric finds an x-ray machine which has been tampered with. Horatio thinks that this is a bigger enemy than imagined. They find a serial number from the machine and trace it to a purchase by Richard Thomason. Thomason had bought ten x-ray machines in the past year. Horatio is questioning him further when Park and his men enter and intervene, arresting Thomason. Thomason is needed for bigger causes. Federal trumps county. Horatio wants answers, but Park won't give any. Horatio watches as Thomason is taken away, as Yelina joins. Horatio explains to Yelina that Bob Keaton was a DEA agent. Yelina insists Horatio tell her about Raymond. Horatio tells her that it is possible that Raymond is still alive.
