  • The Murder Of A Man Who Was Killed By An Explosive Cigarette Leads The Team To A Infamous Seller Of Pranks, While A Kid Danny Knows Turns Up Dead.

This is probably the most touching episode they ever made. "Child's Play" was an excellent tearjerker. In the end I actually found myself feeling very sad about the death of Ruben. Very rarely I feel this kind of genuine emotion for a character in this or any show. This episode will make many people emotional guaranteed. The other case concerning the man who was killed by a cigarette was very entertaining too. The best scene was when Flack said to a suspect: "Stop, drop, and roll you son of a bitch". He is hilarious. The conclusion to the cases were plausible and very enjoyable. I liked to see how Danny was effected by the death of Ruben. The last scene was excellently written. A very good episode!moreless
  • good episode...

I must be on a role or something because this is the third episode of this series that I have seen and it's another great one. Seriously, this episode had a great story. One of the character's (I forgot his name....) knew a kid named Ruben and the kid was shot while biking by a robbery. It was really sad. It was interesting to see how every character reacted to the death. The other investigation was of a man that was killed by an exploding cigar. It was really sad when the killer told the story about his best friend drowning in the "submarine" because the sub was supposed to take them on amazing journies. They were just kids. That was so sad. Overall, two great, hear-wrentching stories. Another great episode.moreless

  • Another solid episode. This season is turning out to be the best ever for CSI:NY. Definitely surpasses the wreck that has become CSI:M. Nothing special, but its a very well scripted and acted episode with tradegy and sympathy for the viewmoreless

So what happens when you grow up and something in your life triggers the memory of a friend who died young? Most of us would do nothing, or at least just remember our dead friend. Yet there are those who would release that pent up rage and want vengence on the person they thought caused their death.

This episode is well written. Nothing spectular, but it has humour, sympathy and tradegy in good doses. The humour begins with the death of a denzien of NY, who dies by exploding cigar. Meanwhile a young neighbour who knows Danny is shot during a robbery. Tragically he dies.

The plots of both are quite straightforward to follow. The usual twist takes us away from the obvious perpertrators as both turn out to be victims of circumstance more than anything else.

In the end, I ended up feeling sorry for both perps as well as the victims.

Very well written and interesting episode. Lets hope there are more to come from CSI:NY.moreless
  • Have a huge box of kleenex ready...Great!

Case Laughing Larry: Does Larry tells Flack that the murderer is more goodlooking than him?? Are you kiddin' me??? Very funny moments in this one, the Lindsay and Flack conversation great!, Sid with the messy hair after discovering the itching powder, hilarious! Flack in jeans... I'm the only one that notices that when they get in to the fireworks warehouseis day time and when they explode is night??? I found it weird, prettier but odd anyways

Case bodega: Very sad and very touchy. I cried with Danny in all the scenes. Adam's back and he has tattoos?? the globe tattoo is really awesome and unbelievable, but this is NY! Anything is possible! Hawkes and the tato artist, just cute

    Important things for me:

    * Danny opening the door in pj's and a wife beater..hot!!

    * Danny discovering Ruben is dead...heartbreaking

    * Danny/Mac/ Lindsay scene: D is about to cry when Lindsay enters and he just leaves. I don't think he is treating her badly, I think he just don't want to let her see him so vulnerable and weak, maybe? If that was the bump I didn't see it but maybe I'm just in the negation fase... I agree with the one of you that said that when Mac talks to Lindsay he is telling more than just that. He is telling her to be there for him. I want to imagine than when she leaves she goes to find him but again is imagine too much maybe!

    * Danny doesn't have romantic intentions with Ricki!! He is just trying to comfort her because he feels guilty about what happened!!

    * CARMINE is a HUGE actor!!!

    * I didin't like that they show us a very worried Lindsay about Danny and in the next scenne she is joking with Flack and smiling widely....

*BOTH cases very touchy and about kids...a garanty of tears...

I could go on and on and on but I would leave it for now!moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (4)

    • Flack was a comic book kid. We also learn that he is probably Catholic.

    • It is pretty ironic that Ruben dies immediately after his bike has been blessed. The blessing of the bikes ceremony is intended to keep their riders safe.

It is also quite ironic that Danny and Lindsay's baby is named Lucy (as seen in episode 5x24 Grounds for Deception) considering that the woman who kills Ruben is called Lucy Scott.

    • Goof: It is daytime when Bonasera, Monroe and Flack go into the Chinese imports warehouse. Five minutes later, when Flack is chasing the fugitive across the roof, it is pitch black night.

    • Goof: It is illegal to smoke in bars and restaurants in New York City. So there would have been no reason for the first victim to be smoking the cigar in the first place.

  • QUOTES (14)

    • Danny: Ruben. No! No!
Hawkes: Danny, you know this kid?
Sid: Hey, hey. Come on, get him outta here! No, don't touch the body, man.

    • Flack: If you guys can lift some prints, hopefully I can run down the rest of the story.

    • Mac: Thought I told you to take some time off?
Danny: Oh, yeah, you did. I just don't wanna go home. 'Cause when I go walking down that hallway now I'm... not gonna hear the kid laughing on the other side of the walls, you know. Crying when he doesn't wanna go to bed. I'm just afraid I'm gonna miss him.

    • Adam: (To Hawkes) Veterinarians send the pets to tattoo artists, places that you and I go. I mean, well, I would go... I mean, uh... uh, anyways...

    • Mac: You acted on instinct, Danny.
Danny: Oh, man, I wish I hadn't. I wish I hadn't. Oh, I wish I hadn't! He just got his bicycle blessed this morning.

    • Ruben: The line's gonna be long, so we have to hurry. Mom, we're leaving now.
Rikki: He's been up since 5:30.
Danny: Yeah. I went to bed at 5:30.

    • Stella: I bought sea monkeys.

    • Lindsay: I once spent my entire summer allowance on this hovercraft that Laughing Larry said would take me and my friends riding on a carpet of thin air. Hovercrap.

    • Flack: How about the x-ray specs I bought in middle school to see through a girl's clothes? The only thing I ever saw through those was a nun coming at me with a yardstick.

    • (Sid is giving a precise of the autopsy to Lindsay and Stella while continually scratching at his arms and shoulders)
Sid: All right, then, ladies, unless there's something else? Stella: There is one more thing, Sid. Mucuna pruriens. In India they're also known as velvet bean, cow itch, but here in the United States we usually call it itching powder. (holds up an evidence bag as Lindsay starts laughing) Sid: Oh no, oh no... Stella: It looks like he stuck it in his pocket and after the blast it wound up dispersed on his clothes. Sid: Why aren't you... Stella: A long sleeved lab coat. Both stylish and functional. Sid: Exploding cigars, insect ice cubes, itching powder... what kind of a clown are we after?

    • Rikki: Just tell me that he's ok!
Danny: I can't tell you that he's ok.

    • Lindsay: (After finding out about Ruben) I'm not very good at this kind of thing. What should I say to him?
Mac: Just tell him that you're not very good at this kind of thing.

    • Lindsay: Aren't fireworks illegal in the state of New York?
Flack: Yeah, and so is murder.

    • Flack: (After someone set the fireworks off in a building, and arresting the guy) Stop, drop, and roll you son of a bitch.

    • Sid: More specifically, the mouth end of a Gran Cahill cigar.

Of all the brands of cigars, they have chosen the one that matches Eddie Cahill's last name.

    • The exploding cigar is a common means for Batman's foe The Joker to dispose of his enemies.

    • Flack: Panic At The Disco.

Panic at the disco is a band that began in 2005 with A fever you can't sweat out.

    • Stella: I bought sea monkeys; that was then, this is now. So come on we got a man to see about a cigar.

Stella mentions Sea Monkeys. These were/are a type of brine shrimp eggs sold in packets through the mail. When added with water and some other chemical packets, the eggs would hatch and the buyer could look at his/her new "pets" though magnifying glass bumps in the side of the monkeys' aquarium.

    • Lindsay: No way! Lawrence Gelachter is Laughing Larry!

Laughing Larry's cheap toys are similar to the types of products sold in Bazooka Joe's chewing gum. This gum was wrapped in a comics with an ad for items such as "spy microphones" which in reality were two tin cups tied together with a piece of string.
